The year is 1963. Your name is Bond, James Bond. And your mission is to slip inside the dangerous and debonair world of the original 007 played by none other than Sean Connery. Travel to exotic destinations such as Istanbul and the Orient Express, connect with a beautiful Russian double agent, and immerse yourself into an authentic re-creation of the classic Bond world. In missions that combine driving and stealth, delve deeper into the plot of the legendary film in an experience that will leave you shaken... and stirred. Fully integrated stealth and driving missions, non-linear level progression, the new zoom and focus aiming mechanic, and a deeply immersive living world add up to innovative, non-stop Bond action. Brand-New Multiplayer Mode: Third-person, split-screen deathmatch mode offers an engrossing social multiplayer experience. [Electronic Arts]

From Russia With Love isn’t the most challenging or in-depth game in the world, however what it lacks in both of these categories it more than makes up for by simply being a highly entertaining and authentically cinematic shoot’em-up game.

Drive the Goldfinger DB5, fly the Thunderball jetpack and fight some classic baddies in challenging environments. It’s enough to make you toss your trilby on to a hat-rack in delight.

From Russia With Love is a great film. From Russia With Love is not a great adaptation of that film, as it seems to believe that what the source material really needed was a few more rocket launchers and gatling guns.

There are predictable missteps--the driving sequences are awkward and twitchy, and the camera doesn't always behave itself--but on the whole, From Russia With Love is a convincing and enjoyable ride on the sixties Bond rollercoaster.

IGN
When we look back on it the levels in "Everything or Nothing" bordered on great. In comparison, some of Russia's missions are longer, but generally they're average in design and effect.

EA made a daring attempt at trying to portray the 1963 film, which for the most part, reached its goal despite the small lack of fluidity in level selection and plot transitions. However, gamers who enjoyed "Everything or Nothing" will be extremely disappointed to find out that From Russia With Love doesn’t even come close to its previous predecessor’s gameplay innovation and fast-moving action build-up.

Even with the man who created the 007 persona back in the starring role, this sequel just can't measure up to the standards of excellence set by the Bond films or by the action game genre in general. [Dec 2005, p.160]

A great game if all you want is a man with a gun shooting some bad guys. But if you want a Bond game, stick with "Everything or Nothing."

Everything that was in "EoN" is back albeit with a contemporary 1960s setting including the gadgets, yet there’s something distinctly lacking that fails to bring the game close to living.

At the end of the day, it has quite a compelling story and where else are you going to hear Sean Connery in a videogame.

Despite the missteps, the whole of FRWL satisfies with a combination of excellent graphics, (literally) jazzy tunes, and varied gameplay.

N-Europe
Lacks the appeal of picking up and playing all the way through and sticks too close to the safety of the established third person shooter concept that has been in place for way too long now.

In an effort to appeal to a wide range of gamers the gameplay is less than difficult. It's a lot less than difficult but it's not so much challenging as it is meant to be entertaining. Do I have to bring up the phrase "interactive movie" again?

Even the novelty of playing as Sean Connery's classic Bond can't overcome the feeling of been there, done that.

It might be OK for a movie to show the same location over and over, but as a video game, the repetition gets old. [Jan 2006, p.116]

A game of enjoyable moments that are, unfortunately, far too easy to breeze through.

It all makes for an action game kinda like your typical Bond girl: fun to look at but shallow. With simple mission objectives, cinch puzzles, and autoaim (that you can tweak for more skillful shots if you like), this game practically plays itself.

Though challenging, it's also sometimes pedestrian, with a host of uninspired levels and dim bad guys ruining what could have been the triumphant return of 007.

It’s harmless mass-market entertainment; the kind that any discerning gamer should already know to leave well alone. [Christmas 2005, p.116]

Alan H. gave it a10:
The game was absolutely one of the best James Bond game EA has ever made. This game was addicting, and just plain fun. There are so many weapon and gadget upgrades that the replay value for this is tremendous.

Jeff A. gave it a10:
This game captures Bond at his best. Although Connery's voice isn't quite as young as it used to be, using him as voice talent for the game was a great move on EA's part. Connery adds authenticity to this game which also features excellent gameplay, controls, sound effects, and storyline. Capures the aura of 1960's Russia perfectly. There are many weapons and gadgets that can be upgraded as well. Superb game.

ABW gave it a10:
This is the best game ever created!!!

Abe W. gave it a10:
Great game!

Sharbaz R. gave it a10:
Seriously, this is the best Bond game yet. It's bananas - Connery, jetpack, Aston Martin, crazy guns. 10 out of 10 - NO DOUBT!
