Summary

Super strength. Super speed. Invisibility. Elasticity. These are your powers. Bombs. Bullets. Robots. Lasers. Your enemy controls them all. The only way to survive being The Incredibles is to truly be incredible. From the Academy Award-winning creators of "Toy Story," "Monsters, Inc.," and "Finding Nemo" comes a new movie written by Pixar Animation Studios' Brad Bird (Iron Giant, The Simpsons). The Incredibles tells the story of a family of undercover superheroes that are trying to live a quiet, suburban life, but are forced back into action in order to save the world. The action/adventure game from THQ is based on the plotline of the movie, allowing you to play as all the film's main characters. Live the film's action, adventure, and humor over 18 levels, which are packed with fighting, racing, and puzzle action/adventure gameplay featuring the characters' unique superpowers. [THQ]

Game Over Online

If you liked the movie, you'll probably like the game, as it's a near-perfect blend of classic gameplay with the production values and design of the film.

Nintendojo

The variety of powers you can control and the humorous and likable characters can really bring out the "hero" in you. It offers more than your typical platformer.

Nintendo Power

Each of the playable characters has such unique moves and play control that it's like playing five separate games under one unifying story. [Dec 2004, p.141]

Gaming Target

An adequate, albeit unbalanced, action title whose appeal is broader than the teen rating implies.

And while the game never quite reaches "Incredible" levels, it's still a good enough game to warrant checking out if you enjoyed the movie. Just don't expect to have to spend much time with it.

Next Level Gaming

A pretty good platform game, but it really offers nothing new to the market.

Electric Playground

A light action game that ties into the movie very well, and those that loved the movie and want to spend time with these characters should enjoy it.

PGNx Media

Definitely aimed at the younger audiences, The Incredibles is an adequate but unremarkable action game on its own. The license certainly does help thanks to Pixar's unique charm and the game includes a variety of movie footage and trailers to please fans of the film.

The levels have been designed fairly well for the most part, but sometimes it gets a little frustrating having to begin again and again on a few levels, because of inefficient camera controls.

The Incredibles seems to be going a little old school with this trial and error concept. For some that may be a challenge but for others it's just pure annoyance.

Game Chronicles

The Incredibles is just not that "incredible". It's an okay game, fraught with minor issues on a technical front and saved by high production values and attention to detail in less substantial areas.

Game Informer

I might have recommended this simplistic formula for younger gamers except for the fact that encounters with Omnidroid are some of the most tedious and unforgiving bouts I've ever fought. [Jan 2005, p.118]

IGN

It nails the feel of the movie and boasts varied gameplay, not to mention features damn funny voiceovers. Unfortunately, sloppy control and tired gameplay muddles the experience.

Electronic Gaming Monthly

The Incredibles game had some great material to work with, but the energy and humor that really made the movie great just isn't there - out-of-context voice clips and poorly connected cut-scenes certainly don't add anything. [Jan 2005, p.132]

GameSpot

The game doesn't buck the trend of mediocrity, offering a fairly unremarkable experience that puts you through the motions of the film's plot without capturing any of its essence.

Blame the short development time. Blame laziness. Blame the film licence curse. Blame whatever you want but the end result is The Incredibles is rental-only, as you'll see everything the game has to offer by the time you hand it back to the monkey behind the Blockbusters till.

Stuff

The game's graphics do a swell job of mimicking the trademark Pixar look and the levels are all based on the more memorable action sequences from the film. The game play, however, tastes like leftovers: clobber a bunch of bad guys, flip switch, repeat.

A decent game to play if you're obsessed with the adventures of the family Parr, but it could have used a lot more polish and whimsy where it counts.

An average tie-in that's not without its merits, and one that will appeal to fans of the film and a younger audience. Jaded older gamers however will find very little to sustain your interest.

Sydney Morning Herald

There is no shortage of action, plus bonus battle arenas, but it's not all super. Boss battles are foolishly difficult and will prove very frustrating for youngsters, and some of the Mr Incredible sections become very repetitive, with wave after wave of mindless goons to dispatch. The controls also lack precision.

Game Revolution

As a standard third-person action-platformer, there's nothing substantially wrong with THQ's take on The Incredibles, but neither is there anything original.

Cheat Code Central

I place the blame almost squarely on the lameness of it all directly on Pixar's shoulders because the super powers featured in The Incredibles are nothing short of boring. Super strength, elastic powers, invisibility and super speed just don't really cut it when it comes to really cool super powers and they don't translate into exciting gameplay either.

Games Radar UK (Pre-2006)

Lucky for Disney that dull console games don't seem to affect the performance of big movies at the box office. [NGC]

The greatest crime depicted in the game isn't Syndrome's machinations, but the speed with which the lame design renders dull action out of such cool characters.
