Nintendo Power
The games in MMXC are the kinds that will make your wrists hurt and your palms sweat, and I mean that as the highest compliment. [Feb 2006, p.97]
NintendoWorldReport
Having a perfect version of MMX3 is reason alone to spring for this package, so if you're a fan of 2D action, you really can't go wrong with it.

If you've got the patience and the drive, Mega Man X Collection is a fun title that challenges your gaming skills and gives you a good history lesson in the process.

All 6 games (and one bonus) still stand as some of the best and most challenging of 2D gaming, starring one of the most revered characters in the gaming universe. [Jan 2006, p.49]
GamerFeed
This is a fine gathering of the better X games, although X5 and X6 do tend to drag a little. Furthermore, the package isn't as loaded as "Mega Man Anniversary Collection" was.

An excellent flashback to old-school gaming in its finest hour. [Feb 2006, p.70]

It's a shame that there aren't as many games on this compilation as there were on the Anniversary Collection ("Mega Man Soccer" really should've been included), but you're still getting some fun games (expect, of course, "Mega Man X6").

The controls on the system are as tight and responsive as ever and the action...oh, the sweet action...still delivers.

Mega Man X Collection features the triumphs and failures of Capcom’s most dynamic duo. It faithfully renders all of the aspects of the games, be it the quality platforming, the tough bosses, or the less savory things like bad level design and ridiculously challenging obstacles.

If you can put up with a few outdated cliches, and the occasional irritation, though, this collection has a lot of prime gaming packed onto the disc. [Feb 2006, p.103]

Even though the unlockables are unbelievably light, Mega Man X Collection is a great value.

Six quality titles and one bonus game make for a great collection. But make sure you bring your "A" game because you're going to need it.

Mega Man X Collection is money well spent. X1, X2, and X3 are the best games to show up in a retro set in quite some time. Don't miss them.

What’s not to love about games where you play as a robotic savior who must navigate his way through an augmented, mechanized, futuristic Earth filled with bottomless pits and ditches of conical metal honed to sharp points that threaten your success, all played to rocking and memorable tunes?

Mega Man X Collection follows the same basic formula as Capcom's excellent first Mega Man compilation, but it just doesn't have quite as much to offer.

Unless you really, really like the franchise, this collection will do nothing whatsoever for you -- it's six largely identical games of varying quality. For those who can't get enough of that robo-rock/paper/scissors action, the exceptional quality of these ports (and the promise of a "new" spin-off) should be more than enough to offset the repetition.

Collections such as these should serve as a punctuation mark on the series, and as such should come packed full of extras so that even those fans who already own the included games individually will feel enticed to return to the checkout counter. That isn't the case here.

While its overall game quality and list of extras isn't nearly as consistent or flashy as its Mega Man cousin, there's still a lot to like... especially at the reasonable price of less than thirty bucks.

While the "Mega Man Anniversary Collection" contained more meat, there's simply a ton of robots to blast, dozens of armor capsules to grab, and really no good reason not to let ol' Blue back in your life once again.

Enjoyment of the X Collection will hinge on whether you enjoyed these games in the first place, because there isn't much content to be found aside from art galleries. But fans of the series and those who like the sort of action Mega Man provides will be very happy.

A respectable compilation of the blue bomber's other adventures, though it pales a bit in comparison to the Anniversary Collection released a couple of years back.

BigB0SS Naked Snake gave it a9:
Nicely done. All the games seem to be identical to their original versions. Some people may say otherwise... however, I've played most of these games in the past and they are the same. Gameplay is nice... a little frustrating at times. It definitely brings back a challenge for today's gamers - the kind of challenge that many of today's games can't offer. Bonuses aren't massive, but the games shouyld justify buying the collection.
Ryan M. gave it an8:
A megaman collection is, for the most part, something you will definitely buy and something you probably never will. X collection is no different, and will probably fail to bring in any new fans to the iconic character. This game is shallow, meaning there is very miniscul amounts of extra content worth unlocking, and the 7 games included are nothing spectacular, all extremely similar in gameplay and execution. Simply said, it drowns in megaman, and if your a fan, enough said. With a resonable amount of boredom and extra cash, I would only suggest this title to ones who are willing to except the fact that it offers absolutely nothing revolutionary and new. Its an outdated mesh of mediocre to fun sidescrolling mayhem.
