Into Liquid Sky
The best game on GameCube by far and one of the best games ever, in my opinion. It's a must-own for any action game fan. [Grade = A+]

This is a game that simply must be played to be fully experienced, standing at the forefront of truly wonderful storytelling in videogames.

The story is awesome -- plot twists, deception, romance, it has it all and the plot is much better then most of the movies that are put out now a days.

The gameplay is fun and innovative, the graphics are simply breathtaking, the cut scenes look simply amazing. Textures are done with detail and look sweet.

It improves on the original in every respect: better AI, better graphics, better sound, better easter eggs, better cut scenes. [May 2004, p.118]

While not boasting a tone of new content, you can't help but find yourself completely entranced by the updated sequences and newfound graphical realism...Something that you'll cherish for a lifetime. [Mar 2004, p.108]

They made the game much smoother in the gameplay department, the PS-X version's biggest weaknesses.

Even with the title's faults (unbalanced difficulty, sometimes irritating radio transmissions, and an occasionally choppy frame-rate) this is the best Metal Gear game of the series to date.

This game kicks ass, and remains one of the best games of all time. Now its even prettier.

It's been somewhat updated but not all of the updates are better than the original. Still, you absolutely have to get Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes if you haven't played the original - no question.
Gamestyle
There's not much here to renew interest for old fans (save the most dedicated), but for everyone else prepare to be amazed - Solid Snake is back!

An amazing remake of a contemporary classic! Gamers who missed it the first time around owe it to themselves to play.

Yes, it is both brief and linear in nature, but the story is presented with such a brilliant combination of style and substance that you'll want to come back and experience it over and over again.

The A.I. of the genome soldiers has been drastically improvedthey're able to hear and see you much better, even from above and below. If Snake is detected, they'll coordinate their searches and look in every roomand when it comes to looking under nondescript orange boxes, they're total jerks.

Gamers looking for a title with incredible gameplay, an engrossing story, cinematic goodness and a rough and tough commando should look no further.

The cut scenes nearly steal the show. Theyre a little too good, really. Once you see Snake and his enemies in fully choreographed action, returning to the actual game seems a little clunky.

As solid as a tactical espionage action game can get. This remake belongs next to the Resident Evil remake, which to this day stands as being one of the best GameCube releases.

Combining the storyline of the original, with the smoother, more entertaining gameplay of MGS2, Twin Snakes should be an early contender for best game of the year on the GameCube, and gamers new and old should enjoy it thoroughly.

The stealth-based gameplay that MGS introduced has rarely been equaled, and it's as perfect here as it ever was. If I seem disappointed, it's only because there are signs everywhere that this could have been a remake of epic proportions, but the extraordinarily talented creators settled on a port.

With all thats fantastic about the game I cant overlook that it needed more polish, and for that reason I wouldnt say its a must-have for those that played the original or still have a copy.

Its storyline is for sure one of the best on the GameCube perhaps one of the best storys every told in a video game.

A damn fine sequel to one of PlayStation's best games...[but t]here is so much story, so much interrupting dialogue, that I oftentimes found myself wishing for more game and less narrative.

This is the game that so many have deemed the best game ever released on the PlayStation. Now it's been given a new coat of paint. Sure, it has a few blemishes ... but overall, it's the same experience you loved before, only now it looks better.

Too short, too complicated and too clever - but an absolute classic. If only they'd taken the time to fix the pacing and give us some new bits. [GamesMaster]

But with each new feature comes a downside: First-person aiming makes regular combat easier...but it also makes boss battles far too easy; the new cut-scenes are brilliantly produced...when they're not overdosing on painfully cliched bullet-time effects; and the graphical overhaul is nice...but we know GameCube is capable of better. [Apr 2004, p.126]

The new gameplay additions, the graphic upgrade, the incredible cut scenes and the general feel of the game make it a worthwhile purchase, even if it isnt a true remake. Its rather short and lack in replay value, but it is easily one of the best games on the Cube to date.

The graphics and sound may have more flair than the original, but the guts are the same. Revisiting it for the second time is fun because MGS itself was great, though its still just revisiting a game many of us have already played.

It's too bad that The Twin Snakes isn't the perfect update of MGS it could have been, but this game is still packed with quality, providing a great experience to MGS rookes and Fox Hound veterans alike. [Mar 2004, p.54]

As long as you're not expecting any huge additions to the Metal Gear milieu, The Twin Snakes serves as a great revival of a true classic.

As for those of you who cherished the original game? This is the best pair of rose-tinted spectacles money can buy, and a good alternative to the anti-climax of seeing how a once-cherished favourite has aged.

The flashy, all-new cutscenes actually distract from the game's innovation: the emphasis on artificial intelligence over player progress.

The "Resident Evil" remake offered spectacular graphical effects, new rooms, new enemies, new locales, new play mechanics, and even new storyline twists and characters, all while retaining the original environment, characters, and gameplay that made the game so great to begin with. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes does no such thing, feeling more like a by-the-numbers remake, mimicking everything about the original PlayStation version, even down to the visual presentation.

Playing this game was like witnessing the Broadway musical of Metal Gear Solid. Or maybe it's more like the movie adaptation of the book. You don't learn anything particularly new things about the characters or the story.

Worthy, but better if you're new to the series. If it's just nostalgia you're after you could probably pick up the original - it won't be pretty, but it will be a similar experience. [Apr 2004, p.98]
NTSC-uk
It has taken the classic MGS structure known and loved by PS1 players plus it throws in most of the good bits from MGS2 for free. All the stealth, excitement and action so revered has been kept, and some new toys have been thrown into the arena to play with. [JPN Import]

Although the decision to lengthen the already generous cut-scenes may deliver the odd treat for MGS veterans, many will find their duration exasperating. Crucially, though, some of the reworked sequences end up interfering with the game's pacing while failing to bring anything of substance to the experience. [Apr 2004, p.102]
Gamezilla!
I hate to say it, but this latest Metal Gear Solid isnt just painful to play in a stealth-action sort of way, its painful to play in a bad game sort of way.

Julian N gave it a0:
Terrible controls, story line, AI.
BigB0SS Naked Snake gave it a7:
One of the better games for GameCube. However, it is crap when being compared to the other MGS games. Get the original for PlayStation.
Ben D. gave it a10:
It's the original MGS with updated graphics and contols. What else do you need to know? Oh, and the Psycho Mantis battle still rocks.
Jesse S. gave it a9:
A true gaming gem. The graphics are updated from the original, naturally. Gameplay is similar to Metal Gear Solid 2, adding first person view and better A.I. The controls may seem strange at first on a GameCube controller, but they take little to no time to get used to. One of the main complaints I have seen is that there aren't any new areas, and that its the same game, but honestly, what would you expect a remake to be. And the gameplay additions make up for whatever could be percieved as lost. If you are a die-hard fan of Metal Gear Solid, and would like to play the game with updated graphics and gameplay, then you should at least consider a rental.
Dakidski gave it a6:
PAL users beware! Lazy port with no 60hz option. Not optimized for PAL territories. Choppy graphics and slowdowns. You will be better off with the Bleemcast version of MGS on Dreamcast.
Pepe J. gave it a8:
Es un buen juego, aunque creo que me gusto demasiado que acabé terminandolo muy rapido y conforme me lo terminaba con mayor dificultad, me lo pasaba mas rápido. Cuando lo acabé en una dificultad muy buena y con muy buen tiempo, ya lo odiaba.
Daniel M. gave it a 10:
Still the best stealth shooter ever.
