Summary

There's trouble in Bikini Bottom! Someone has stolen King Neptune's crown, and it appears as though Mr. Krabs is the culprit. Despite being passed over for a promotion by Mr. Krabs, SpongeBob and his faithful but dimwitted friend Patrick volunteer to make the perilous journey to Shell City to retrieve the crown and save Mr. Krabs' life. On a heroic, comedic quest that takes them to new and unexplored territory, we see SpongeBob and Patrick as we've never seen them before. Play as SpongeBob or Patrick working together to save Mr. Krabs and all of Bikini Bottom – each with their own set of unique maneuvers. Interact with all your favorite characters from the movie including authentic voices and special cameo appearances. Earn "manliness" points to get the coolest power-ups ever like the "CartWheel Attack", "Electric Guided Sonic Wave Guitar" and the "Macho Bash!" [THQ]

An above average platform game that delivers in terms of quality and fun. While not as joyous as Battle for Bikini Bottom, it is still a good game which will offer hours of gameplay.

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie has impressed me so much that I'm almost embarrassed to admit it. There's loads of variety to keep anybody quiet for ages - it even kept me up, playing until the break of dawn!

Controls feel responsive and the camera rarely hinders your view of the action. And the humor of the show practically seeps out of every clamshell and bed of kelp you cross.

The overall gameplay is quite enjoyable. The humor and fun mini-games reel you in, and the added bonuses of unlockable treats such as trailers and costumes keep you playing more.

Stuff

The irreverent, goofball sense of humor from the show is intact, which makes up for the sometimes iffy controls.

All platform games need are a healthy dose of variety and fun. If a yellow simpleton made of sponge can do it properly, then so can you.

Game Informer

The core gameplay is simply tired. Jumping around collecting random doodads is just old - it's time to move on to new objectives in platformers. [Dec 2004, p.167]
