Gaming Age
A top-notch wrestling title on the GC. The characters all have tons of personality, the gameplay is great, and there are enough modes to keep players pummeling till the end.

A game that moves fast, controls brilliantly, and looks utterly fantastic. [July 2003, p.77]

If you are a fan of the whacked out cartoon series, then you are definitely going to be tickled beet red with a kick to the solar plexus.
Deeko
With gorgeous graphics and fantastic gameplay, Ultimate Muscle is ultimate enjoyment.

A great game. While the AI can be extremely tough and playing the Story mode through so many times gets a bit old, these shortcomings are more than made up for with the intensity, presentation, and clean fun that it has to offer.

Brings exciting visuals, fast gameplay, and over-the-top wrestling moves together in a package that's as fun to play as it is interesting to look at. [July 2003, p.48]
GameZone
An entirely original wrestling experience and does a great job of recreating the frenetic action of the cartoon, though it must be said that it is an acquired taste.

Sim-based gameplay mechanics are nowhere to be found in the game and have been replaced by a blistering pace and frenzied style of action that make for a crazy, yet enjoyable, gameplay experience.

It boasts a fun engine, endearingly weird characters, and funny voices and sound effects, but lacks a few key customization options that keep it from becoming the ultimate champ.

While the gameplay is super tight, the depth is a bit lacking and the single-player modes could definitely use more variety. But for a lot of gamers, the killer personality, fast pace, and handsome looks of Ultimate Muscle will highlight the best trait the game has, it's simply fun to play.

The fanciful settings, story mode full of bitchy trash-talking (voiced by the American television actors), customizable everything, and series of attacks that culminate in nutty cut scenes bring life to a sometimes plodding genre.

It's over-the-top wacky, it's brought to life with some truly well done cel-shaded visuals, and most important of all, it's seriously fast and fun.

You won't be disappointed with this game's high octane pace, simple arcade controls, and flamboyant finishers. [July 2003, p.112]
GameShark
A very decent, albeit short fighting game that brings the spirit of the animated TV show to life and delivers a game system that works very well.

What I really enjoy is buying painted Muscle figures from the in-game vending machines. [July 2003, p.110]

The result will please gamers that are fans of the show or those searching for a simple fighting game, though fans looking for the next incarnation of "WWF No Mercy" will have to keep waiting.

While UM doesn't have the depth to go head-to-head with classic Aki titles from the days of Nintendo 64, it has done a great job of capturing the ludicrous fun of the show, with cel-shaded graphics and faithful character designs.

Every bit as silly and fun as the Ultimate Muscle cartoon series. [July 2003, p.145]
NintendoWorldReport
There is very little depth, and although the multiplayer mode holds promise as a fun pick-up-and-play diversion at parties, there are better wrestling games, and better fighting games to be had. [Import]

It's totally spastic, and not in a good "Marvel vs. Capcom" way, but rather in a button-mashing, uncontrollably random sort of way. [Aug 2003, p.76]

The moves are so disappointing and ineffective, youre down for the count before the festivities begin. On the list of failed comebacks, file this one below ALF.

[Anonymous] gave it an 8:
This game is better than the show because you are your favourite wrestler. You control what he does. The only thing that is bad is the graphics they can be better but overall its awesome.
Mickey R. gave it a 10:
This is one of the best wrestling games I have ever played. Now I am not a fan of the series so I was a little shaky buying it. However it was great. It has relatively easy controls for younger people it has an interesting array of characters and the stories, despite being short are great. Also there are plenty of modes to keep it from ever becoming boring. There are also a couple of secret characters and toys to unlock.
