A bitter pill to swallow. Still, you could waste an afternoon or two on this and still find yourself fairly amazed with some of the puzzle elements, the hunt for horror exploration aspect, and all the chainsaw-ripping, zombie-blasting gore.

If you're bored, though, at least go out and rent Evil Dead: Hail To The King. Otherwise, there's really no need for you to return to the cabin in the woods.

GamePro
Hit-or-miss, mushy controls mean you're dead more often than not even though combat with Deadites is a simple button-smashing slugfest.

Too short, too frustrating and too average, fans of Ash will dig it for a short while, but all others need to steer clear.

Total Video Games
I really wanted to recommend this game, despite it's problems with controls and graphics I would still have recommended it to fans of the genre and "Evil Dead" movies, however because of the length all I can say is rent it out some time.

Core Magazine
While the game perfectly captures the mood of the Evil Dead movies both graphically and aurally, poor control in combination with tedious combat makes playing this game a real chore.

Daily Radar
Delivers the darkly comic humor and creepy mood of Sam Raimi's wonderful film trilogy, but simply fails to follow through on its promise with basic gameplay.

It's hard to believe that the survival-horror genre can only be done right by Capcom (and perhaps Konami), but Hail to the King will do little to convince you otherwise.

If you walk away from this game in less than a couple minutes I wouldn't be surprised in the least bit. The control is the most horrible I have ever seen, making is near impossible to control Ash using the control stick.

If only this game had the good control and the creative puzzles of "Resident Evil," it might have been a damn fine game. Of course it's not a damn fine game. It's a pretty bad one, but at least it's short.

While there are a few interesting spots and plot points, Evil Dead the game has managed to turn one of the most original and entertaining of all B-horror-film franchises into nothing more than a boring, uninspired, and pedestrian attempt to cash in on a license.

Planet Dreamcast
A masterpiece of lazy design strapped onto a fantastic idea, this game uses its license to fool unsuspecting fans of Raimi's films, and of survival horror games in general, into thinking it might live up to its title.

DC Swirl
Rent it like I did, beat in a couple of nights (it's about 4-5 hours long if you rush through it conserving your ammo/gas and avoiding the respawning Deadites) and mourn the butchering of yet another promising movie franchise in a videogame that fails to do justice to its cool characters and interesting plot.

IGN
After beating Evil Dead: Hail To The King within a few hours, despite frustratingly bad control, poor gameplay design, and mediocre visuals, there's only one thing left to say: This game sucks.

Games Radar UK (Pre-2006)
All in all, the nasty, pixellated graphics, lax controls, repetitive enemies, slim variation and frustrating, leaden gameplay make for an effort that reeks like a maggot-infested corpse.

Ricardo H. gave it a 10:
When playing any video game, you must always experience the game(or system)in it's CONTEXT.Now,armed with this little nugget of insight, one can appreciate systems like the Sega Genesis and the N64 for what they were, and just enjoy the game experience(not worrying about a lack of updated graphics). Disclaimer aside,Evil Dead:Hail to the King is an outstanding Dreamcast title.Any fan of the trilogy of films(starring the hammy, comedic stylings of master thespian Bruce Campbell)will be naturally intrigued, but this title has much to offer the casual fan. Without revealing major plot points,I will say this adventure centers around Ash(our hero)'s attempts at returning an unholy book to it's rightful state, and stop an evil uprising from taking place. With elemnts of Capcom's Resident Evil series, and hilariously animated cut scenes, this is a must-have title for any Dreamcast gamer.

Dave D. gave it a 10:
