With insane amounts of selectable characters and play options, what can possibly be done to top it?

The MOST FUN 2D fighter game of all time.

Fast and furious action, great sound and gameplay -- it's the best 2D fighting game ever made.

Games Radar UK (Pre-2006)

With over 40 characters taken from the Marvel comics and Capcom's past games, there's no shortage of variation either.

Gaming Age

Of all the incarnations of the versus series, never before have I had so much fun, said "WHOA!" so many times per match, and been so frustrated as to which characters to pick.

GamerWeb Sega

This is a title that rewards all comic book store jockeys and supplies unending gameplay for those aching for a fighter fix.

AllDreamcast

It may not appeal to everyone due to it's highly "over-the-top" style, but it's all about fun, colors, fun, special effects, and more fun.

93

IGN

So many characters to unlock, so many modes of play, so many variations in even versus play. Well done, Capcom.

Da Gameboyz

With awesome graphics (save the low resolution characters), original music, gameplay refined to near perfection, and all the re-playability you can handle, this adds up to the best damn fighter that Capcom has put out yet, PERIOD.

91

Antagonist

The controllers are, for me and apparently everybody else, the only real weakness of this game.

91

Core Magazine

Granted, the horrible pseudo-jazz background music is the equivalent of forced aural sodomy, but the rest of the package is so well put together, a little forced aural sodomy sometimes seems a small price to pay.

Dreamcast.net

Some thing I believe that keeps the masses away from 2-demensional fighters are the dated visuals, and Capcom has pulled through to provide us with a visually stunning fighter, which will surely top the charts.

DC Swirl

The "Soul Calibur" of two-dimensional fighting games.

Total Video Games

"Marvel vs. Capcom 2" has rekindled my excitement for Capcom's 2D fighting games, and will be causing my left thumb much more trauma in the coming months.

I love this game, and want to have its children.

Game Fan

Far from being the most perfect fighting game, but it's close to being the most enjoyable one.

84

GameSpot

Like its predecessor, it isn't the most balanced game in the world, but that doesn't keep it from being a great deal of fun.

83

Game Revolution

Perhaps the crowning achievement of "Marvel vs. Capcom 2"'s is the game's ability to get around the Dreamcast controller's lack of six buttons.

Happy Puppy

Thankfully, Capcom, the king of coin-op fighters, seems to have few reservations about taking what are essentially change magnets and bringing them home intact for the low, low price of $49.99 (or roughly 100 plays).

king willy gave it a10:
one of, if not the best 2d fighting game of all time. the best comic related game of all time. pure fun.

Kevin B gave it a10:
This game is one of the greatest fighting games ive played. Hard to come by now...

Fighter17 gave it a 10:
You can do a 100 hit combo attack, 56 fighters, freestyle fighting system, great game.

Robert C. gave it a 10:
An oustanding pinnacle for all 2d fighters and a flat-out great game...even if it is one of the last great ones of a fallen dynasty that is 2D fighting.

Al S. gave it a 3:
This game a pointless, stupid button-masher. It is too frantic to be any fun. The music just doesn't suit a fighting game, and the stages look bland. You should try "FATAL FURY - MARK OF THE WOLVES" instead --- now that one is, no doubt, the best 2D fighting game for the Dreamcast!

Dominique B. gave it a 10:
JUST PLAY IT!

Michael J. gave it a 10:
56 characters, 3 on 3 title matches,3D stages, and great music this is brbobaly the last but best 2D fighter ever this game will not soon be forgotten.
