Hot Games
It's still a better outing than other wrestling games out there, and if it weren't for "Smack Down," this would be the king of the ring.

The most impressive thing about the "Royal Rumble" is that thanks to the power of the Dreamcast, Yukes threw NINE guys in the ring at once, and with no slowdown or issues.
Maxim Online
You can bludgeon guys with pipes, chuck them into moving traffic, or even mash them face first into sides of roasting beef. What more could a wrestling fan possibly ask for?

Wrestling fans who long for the deep simulation value of games like "Wrestlemania 2000" or "WWF Smackdown!" should either approach this game with an open mind or stay away from it altogether.
Antagonist
With the small roster and lack of modes, this one is probably best as a rental and not a purchase, but it is a good way to waste away a weekend.
Daily Radar
Not the Dreamcast wrestling sim we've been waiting for, but still a great deal of fun.
Happy Puppy
The lack of anything more in-depth, such as a career mode, severely cuts the replay value of Royal Rumble.

Offers solid arcade gameplay, but it lacks the depth of the made-for-console wrestling games.
GamePro
Most console wrestling fans are used to more depth and control in their games, and this arcade title only skims the surface.

This game could be worth a rental though as by the time the rental is up, you will probably have gotten all you can from the game.

With very well-done graphics and a decent amount of gameplay, "Royal Rumble" is an overall chaotic game that provides some intense arcade gameplay.

One glaring problem made even more apparent by the Royal Rumble match is the game's character selection, or lack of.
GameSpot
The sound effects -- while a little drab -- get the job done, but the buzzer that signifies a new wrestler entering the ring in the royal rumble mode will drive you absolutely insane with its frequency.

With a lack of a 'create-a-wrestler' mode and many aspects of the WWF world missing, wrestling fanatics may want to rent this title first.
DC Swirl
WWF Royal Rumble will appeal more to those who remember those great old arcade WWF games than the more recent offerings.

Frantically pounding buttons just to win a grapple is not my idea of fun.
Total Video Games
With the small roster and lack of modes, this one is probably best as a rental and not a purchase, but it is a good way to waste away a weekend.
IGN
If only there was a more balanced approach to the punch-grapple system, and more characters, and a better way to handle the "partner" feature, and let's face it... an improvement on everything else, then "fun" might have actually found a way to sneak itself in here.

This game is horrible. THQ's long line of successful wrestling games has just gone down the drain. This game was just an overall extremely poor attempt at a game, and a laughable attempt at a wrestling game.
A mediocre effort and use of the license. With only 22 wrestlers and subpar graphics and gameplay, the game should only appeal to desperate Dreamcast owners.

If you've played other wrestling games -- especially "Smackdown" -- you'll find it hard to believe the developers thought they could get away with this.
