Summary
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times - the iconic opening line from "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens. Well, now you can definitely enjoy the best of times with Mr Dickens and scores of his fellow writers with the 100 Classic Book Collection on Nintendo DS! Turn your Nintendo DS into a pocket-sized library with 100 timeless novels from some of the greatest writers in history. Enjoy the exciting escapades of the swashbuckling Long John Silver in "Treasure Island", marvel at the redoubtable skills of the most famous detective of all time in "the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", or run the course of true love with Elizabeth Bennet in "Pride and Prejudice" - the choice is yours! Entering this world of words couldn’t be easier - simply hold your DS like a book and use the stylus to effortlessly turn the pages. You can adjust the text size to whatever suits you best and a bookmark feature means dog-eared pages are a thing of the past. Can’t decide what you’re in the mood for? The 100 Classic Book Collection allows you to search for books in a number of different ways, such as subject matter and length, meaning you can find a suitable story in seconds. As well as the novels, you can access book introductions and find out more on the authors themselves - there are also additional books that you can download via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection! [Nintendo]

It may have taken a long time coming, but Nintendo has put together a fine collection of classic books to keep everyone happy, packaging them in a superbly user-friendly format and offering up plenty of extras to ensure that true value for money is provided. If you are a book lover and have a Nintendo DS, then this little bargain should be right up your alley.

It does what it offers as well as you could hope, and it's ideal for anyone who reads in the dark. [Feb 2009, p.84]

You’ll get a fantastic selection of Shakespeare’s plays, the complete works of Jane Austin, adventure stories like Treasure Island and The Last of the Mohicans. Dickens is in there, two of the Brontes, Eliot, Twain, Henry James… you won’t get bored quickly, because there’s a book for every taste and mood. That is, unless you shun the classics.

If you feel like kicking back with a literary classic, and a wide selection to choose from then pick this up pronto. If you chose to buy all these books separately, it would cost much more than the bargain price this game is going for in comparison.

So for 20 quid, you're getting a hundred copyright-free books that are a pain to read and some fairly rubbish electronical features. It's not a brilliant deal, especially when you consider there's a similar application for iPhone which is free to download. It's much better, too, with more text on the screen at a time, sharper fonts and the option to choose white text on a black background.
