Summary

Join Yumi, Ulrich, Odd and Jeremy in their fight to save planet Earth and the parallel universe Lyoko from total destruction! The central computer that runs Lyoko, has been infected by a megalomaniacal virus, X.A.N.A, that wants to take over the world. Within Lyoko one virtual being by the name of Aelita is fighting to take X.A.N.A. down, but she can't do it alone, and has recruited a team of boarding school students from Earth to help her. Now X.A.N.A. has set his sights on Earth and is sending pieces of the virus through to Earth. With an emphasis on team interaction, puzzle solving, exploration and intense combat, this game will provide a great deal of fun for fans of the Code Lyoko cartoon series. The fates of Lyoko and planet Earth are in your hands so fight, explore, drive and hack your way to victory in this Action packed RPG adventure in the digital realm. Take on the roles of each of the four characters – Odd, Yumi, Ulrich and Aelita – and customize play based on each of their individual strengths. [The Game Factory]

AtomicGamer

Overall, Code Lyoko is one of the better cartoon-based games I've played lately.

Code Lyoko’s players are likely to be split in two: those who enjoy both portions of the game and those who only enjoy the 3D half. Regardless of your expected preference, this game is worth a look.

DS gamers looking for a fresh take on narrative and storytelling should definitely give this game a look, but be warned it is very text heavy. The blend of the two genres is a mixed bag.

Nintendo Power

The action is smooth, but in this advanced age of 3D gaming there's no excuse for not being able to fight and move at the same time. [Aug 2007, p.88]

Deeko

Code Lyoko might not be the longest game you'll ever play, but if you've got a child or teen who is interested in the series, they might find some longevity in the title.

Gaming Nexus

Code Lyoko does a lot of different things and offers a decently long quest, and fans of the show will appreciate how faithfully the source material was recreated. That said, some fine tuning is definitely needed to make the two play styles feel more balanced, especially in regards to difficulty.

IGN

Code Lyoko is great for fans of the show, since the stories are taken right from it, but for everyone else that isn't familiar with the cartoon it may not be wise for them to virtualize.

GameSpot

Younger fans of the show will likely enjoy watching the story gradually unfold as they constantly use the characters' superpowers to fight monsters in Lyoko's virtual world. However, the game's sluggish pace, repetitive combat, and straightforward puzzles guarantee that older or experienced players will lose interest long before the story reaches its conclusion.

Cheat Code Central

As a game, Code Lyoko really nails the fact that it emanates from a cartoon. It remains true to its heritage with sound effects, the soundtrack, cutscenes, and storylines taken directly from the series. Some of the animation is a little stiff, and the text can be a little heady, but fans of the series will enjoy being able to participate in the same action and adventure as their cartoon heroes.

Games Radar (in-house)

The combat is challenging - you'll need to upgrade each fighter, purchase combos and experiment on enemies to find what moves they're weak against. The special powers, on the other hand, are kind of a bore with onscreen icons showing where they can be used to achieve obvious results.

Christopher P. gave it a7:
Liking the show and noticing the game for $20 at Gamestop, I was inclined to get this game. Surpringly, it's not completely disappointing. The action scenes while you're on LYOKO are really fun and require strategy to use for each individual character (which is required -- on some levels your selection of characters is limited). There are many upgrades and special attacks to obtain and the levels are well constructed to encourage the use of special powers and attacks. A major issue is the adventure portions. Navigating through a map to talk to a player or collect an item is not fun. There's no thinking required or any depth to completing these. Clips from the show itself are sometimes used, which is a nice touch, and all of the adventure parts are relatively brief, so it's easy enough to get through them. Another negative is that, strangely, once you finish the action part of a level, the chapter just ends without any closure, and you move onto the next. I really didn't like this -- it made the story very jumpy and disorienting. But at 15 chapters, the game does take some time to complete, and each chapter is a progression from the previous both in difficulty and in the acquired abilities of the characters. Overall, if you're a fan of the show and enjoy a good action title, it might be worth a look.
