It's worth a look if you're wanting a good game; it's a must buy if you're a fan of the genre or series.

Attack of the Saiyans is the truest game to the DBZ Anime I have ever seen. Not only it is true, but it is really good as an RPG.

Eurogamer Spain

Clearly one of the best translations to a game from Akira Toriyama's classic manga that we've seen.

What it is, though, is about as good a Dragon Ball Z game as anyone's going to make. [Dec 2009, p.87]

Cheat Code Central

Attack of the Saiyans is not necessarily just for hardcore DBZ fans. If you're into Japanese RPGs, and if you don't mind a slow, tedious beginning (and seriously, the first ninety minutes are very weak), then Attack of the Saiyans can be an extremely charming, loud, and violent fairy tale.

Gamer Limit

Straying from the mold, Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans is a solid adaptation of the high flying, explosive action for the RPG genre. While it's not a perfect game by any means, it's quite possibly the best Dragon Ball Z game to date.

A very vanilla RPG.

RPG Fan

Overall, I found Attack of the Saiyans to be a short but admirable attempt at bringing structure and story-driven action to the series in its video game adaptations.

If you are a huge fan of Dragon Ball and equal parts JRPG fan, you can’t go wrong with this game. It’s a competent JRPG and offers a ton of portable role playing content. That said, if you aren’t already a fan, this is one game you can safely avoid.

Vandal Online

The last installment of Dragon Ball in the portable market is a notorious RPG game of classic style... maybe too classic for the times.

It's going to be tough for me to recommend AotS to anyone who isn't a die-hard Dragonball fan. Not because the game isn't good and enjoyable for fans and non-fans alike, as it is; no, I can't give this one my stamp of approval because it's 2009 and I'm flatly refusing to endorse any RPG that continues to cling to the random battle system.

Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans isn't the most impressive of RPG's, but the high pace and visual style of the battles makes up for what it lacks. This typical RPG with a Dragon Ball coating will probably appeal most to the fans of the series.

Though it's not perfect, it should give fans what they're looking for as it follows along with the Vegeta Saga from the show. The battle system is simple and functional, and its combination attacks and active guards keep the action interesting.

RPGamer

It isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, and its choice of storyline from the series makes a sequel unavoidable, but at last a worthy RPG featuring Akira Toriyama's magnum opus has been created.

We can recommend Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans to both Dragon Ball-fans and RPG-enthusiasts. The story is well told, the turn-based fighting system is top notch and the ability to customize your characters on many levels is a great addition. You do however need to take the slow pace of the game and a vast amount of text for granted, because the game never powers up to its true potential.

Games Master UK

Fun but old-fashioned role-playing in the Dragon Ball universe. [Winter 2009, p.86]

GameZone

If anything, this game serves as the perfect introduction to the Dragon Ball Z universe so those who always wanted to jump on the Goku bandwagon will find a lot to like about this game.

An old-fashioned game, maybe too old. Nothing wrong here, but neither anything new or particularly exciting, especially if compared to the rest of DS RPG.

The bottom line is that it's a pretty fun little game - especially if you're a fan of the series. However, if you're over 12, don't expect much challenge of out this one.

Not exactly what fans would call "Super Saiyan," but certainly good enough.

Armchair Empire

Despite the complaints, Attack of the Saiyans is still a decent RPG adventure, particularly for those who are new to the genre and could use a good entry point. But for fans of both Dragon Ball Z and RPGs in general, there are many other titles on both fronts that are more worthy of their time.

Pretty linear but to be fair you cant change the story as its already been established, recommended if your a dbz fan!

Toby S gave it a9:
This game is brilliant, best dragonball z game ever made, if I could give it a 9.5 I would, but not a 10

Thomas N gave it a9:
I loved the game hope they continue to make DBZ games like this. All other Dbz games for handheld's were just terrible. This is Finally the right game for DBZ for handheld's. Just wish it was a bit longer.

Alexander O'S gave it a10:
The best DBZ game I have ever played. True to the story and the gameplay is solid and based on mathmatics and not chance. I got a solid 24 hours of gameplay out of it and I still want more. A MUST HAVE if you have ever tried any other DBZ game.

Bob S gave it a10:
OMFG This game is legendary, I am a super sayian. Punch punch kick boom!

Dee Z gave it a9:
A great old school RPG and simply the best Dragon Ball Z game ever made. A notch above Legacy of Goku 2.
