Summary
Transported to an alien world, you find yourself in the middle of a great conflict. An army of evil Drones is on the march, threatening to obliterate the land of Cimexus. Its inhabitants now turn to you to lead them in battle against the Black Swarm. Each level offers new challenges, and taking full advantage of each Drone’s unique specialties will be the difference between success and defeat! Build and command your own Drone army – Wreak mechanical havoc with your squad of insect mechs, choosing from over 100 weapons, upgrades, and power-ups to optimize your forces. Conquer dozens of campaign operations and over 50 additional maps – Take on the forces of the Black Swarm then confront the challenges that wait in the mysterious Badlands. Battle for domination in head-to-head combat – Friends become enemies in local wireless play. [Atlus USA]

Only kids will likely get much out of the game's storyline, but anyone who enjoys a good turn-based strategy-RPG will find plenty to like about this game.

To put those complaints into perspective, it'll take you 40-plus hours to finish the story mode. Longer if you try to complete all of the optional badlands missions. That's 40-plus hours worth of awesome battles and addictive customizing.

The card subsystem in Drone Tactics is interesting and unique, and it helps set the title apart from other similar games.

Drone Tactics may look like Advance Wars with giant mechanical bugs and an absurd plot, but it's challenging and fun. Just watch out for those damn centipedes.

Adult players may find the story a tad on the horrendous side, but Drone Tactics easily holds its own in the strategy and gameplay departments.

If you consider yourself a fan of turn-based strategy games, though, you may find the engaging insect mech combat to be worth it.

A solid title with a lot of shine on the core gameplay. Anyone looking for something new in the genre should give this a test run.

It's definitely a superior example of turn-based strategy, and certainly the best insect-based example of the genre. And, in a slightly tenuous attempt to tie the end of this review back in to our opening trivia, it's definitely more fun than counting to 10 quintillion.

The result is a storyline that will elicit nothing but eye-rolls and nasal snorts from anyone over 12, but the game at the core of Drone Tactics is surprisingly well-made. [June 2008, p.87]
Game Informer
Drone Tactics is functional and occasionally fun, but it never gets exciting.

Genre fans won't find much challenge here but it's diverting enough while it lasts. [Aug 2008, p.68]
