Summary
(Currently available in Japan only under the name of "Daigasso! Band Brothers") Jam with the Band gives you the chance to rock out on your Nintendo DS. To make sweet music, all you have to do is grab the stylus, choose your favorite instrument and a song and cue the scrolling dots on the touch screen with perfect timing. If your solo career isn't flying, you can always join a band. An unlimited number of people can link up for a massive jam session, as long as all players are in wireless range and have their own game cards. Plus, up to eight people can jam together over a wireless connection with just one game card. If you aren't in the mood to play one of the included songs, you can create original compositions just by humming into the microphone. [Nintendo]

All in all, the game works in all situations, for kids to adults, from Britney Spears to Bach. Anyone muscially inclined will appreciate what this excellent game has to offer.

More than just a challenging music game. The composer feature is really neat and will keep any one into music playing with this title long after they are done with all of the in game songs. [JPN Import]

The game embodies everything that is Nintendo DS and should have been promoted as a flagship title. From its addictive multiplayer jam sessions to its ambitious editing software the game is superbly executed. [JPN Import]

Simply put I found this game an enormous amount of fun and can honestly believe all the people that imported it claiming that there hasn’t been a single day since they got Daigasso that they haven’t played through at least one song. [JPN Import]

With the likes of Donkey Konga proving enjoyable, if limited, experiences, it’s good to see Nintendo take the rhythm action game firmly by the horns and deliver a communal gaming experience that’s quite unlike any other. [March 2005, p.114]

It’s an odd state of affairs – cutting-edge technology doing something you could accomplish with a penny whistle – but one of which it’s impossible not to approve. [JPN Import; Jan 2005, p.95]

A hugely addictive Rhythm Action game that has the audacity to add collaborative performance, and an impressive Edit mode. If you bought a DS for the reasons Nintendo hoped - in order to play something different - then Band Brothers is a game you should already own. [JPN Import]

The idea behind Daigasso! Has a lot of potential, but it’s only half-realized and thus is only for the truly dedicated music makers. [JPN Import]

Jennifer P. gave it a10:
This is a great game for music lovers and those who just love to play. I never imagined I could "play" music on my DS.
Lucent gave it a10:
I got this game when it first released in Japan and spent the next year and a half playing at least an hour every day. This is the single most fun rhythm game on the market, because you are truly producing the music as you play along. Simply amazing.
Hansworth B gave it a6:
It's aite, but is nothing compared to other music games. What this game lacks is immersion. Good music games make you feel like you're rocking out, giving you a dual pleasure in gameplay plus participation in the music in either dance or performance forms. While this game seems like it would fit the bill, it doesn't quite with me. The songs are insanely cheesy, made worse by the horrible midi synth. The gameplay feels too much like sight-reading music, and the fact that you are simply pushing buttons doesn't add any excitement. This game does deserve a bit of credit though; the arrangements aren't absolutely terrible. They do somewhat make the button pushing feel like playing an instrument. And, there is plenty of challenge for hours and hours of play.
Opus C. gave it a5:
I find the fact that time moves diagonally, rather than straght up or straight across, to be a huge impediment in playing this game.
Auron Z. gave it a10:
Get it, it is a real great game. it kinda gets real hard in the middle of your second deal with the girl.
[Anonymous] gave it a10:
This game is awesome, get it.
Robin H. gave it a6:
Interesting, but I didn't enjoy it that much. Mostly about sight-reading, rather than creating or experiencing music. Jamming may be fun (haven't tried it over wireless) but the core gameplay is just too repetitive for me. I'd buy a localized versions with more familar songs, just to see what it's like... but am guessing I'd still find the basic mechanics tedious.
