Summary

(Known as "Magic Made Fun" in the UK/EU) Unique magic tricks - possible only on the Nintendo DS - stun your audience in to saying "How'd you do that?" Become the master of your DS as you learn, perform and amaze your friends and family. The secrets of magic are now yours to behold. Step-by-step tutorials let you unlock the mystery of more than 20 tricks. Three individual modes make this game fun solo or with friends. A “special” deck of cards packaged with the game creates a fully portable magic kit. Now the fun extends beyond your Nintendo DS. Interactive tricks make the DS your magic assistant. Draw; speak; tap; instruct; and blow in to the microphone to astonish your audience. The learning curve keeps growing: unlock new tricks as you advance in skill. [Nintendo]

Innovative use of the DS. [Issue#22, p.82]

Cheat Code Central

Master of Illusion is what it aspires to be: a game that teaches you the secrets of magic. Sure, it is not going to teach you how to be Criss Angel that guy is really weird, but it is does teach you the basics.

Game Informer

Even though the game pulls back the curtain on some fundamental elements of performing magic, it’s still fun and even head-scratching at times.

Combining simple magic tricks with the DS is a great idea and young kids will get a real thrill out of performing in front of their friends.

Magic Made Fun is a nicely worked out magic game which uses NDS as its medium for tricks. The game itself doesn't go very deep, but the 30 playable tricks will amaze many friends. Although the box is totally dutch, the game itself is English which might get a negative response from players. If you like magic, this game is definitely something for you.

It does something genuinely different and demonstrates how good non-games can be. [June 2008, p.70]

PTGamers

Master of Illusion won’t replace SingStar or Buzz! as the number one family game, and its scope is limited. Still, it’s a curious piece of entertainment that teaches us some interesting card tricks.

With tricks that'll have even the greatest magicians scratching their heads and demanding the DS for their own, Master of Illusion is a great way to add a little magic to your life.

IGN

There's certainly nothing wrong with trying to be an amateur magician, and this Nintendo DS product is a neat way to learn how some familiar illusions are performed…and to see some cool variations of these tricks performed on a dual-screen, touch screen handheld.

GameSpy

It will both entertain and educate you about the basics of magic. It would have been nicer if the selection of tricks was more balanced, but overall it's another cool use of the DS.

PALGN

Master of Illusion is a solid magic kit on a cartridge, it's difficult to describe the title as a game but anyone looking to learn a little bit about magic can't go wrong.

While sticklers might argue that Magic Made Fun isn't really a game, there's plenty of enjoyment to be had in mastering its array of unique and sometimes ingenious tricks.

A fun and interesting use of the DS, and with enough practice and patience, can “astound and delight friends and family”, at least until the next Harry Potter movie comes out.

Modojo

If you're the type of hardcore gamer who purchases things with the intent to become challenged or reach a high score, it's probably best to avoid this title. Acting as a ice breaker is where the game is best, and beyond that mesmerizing developing minds with the interesting gimmicks and showpieces.

If you're not already a magic buff, and you're under 13, this will easily entertain you. [Feb 2008, p.64]

Video Game Talk

Unless you have friends that will allow you to perform, or you are brave enough to try on random strangers, the game doesn't offer much to keep a solo gamer interested terribly long.

Eurogamer

With more tricks, more variety in the Solo section, and most of all without restricting your access to the bloody tricks you paid for, this could have been surprisingly successful. As it is, it's surprisingly not awful, but very limited.

NZGamer

One of the most pointless games made for the DS. The idea may sound good on paper, but performing magic tricks is really something which needs to stay in the real world. Stay away from this one, far away.
