Summary
(Currently available in Japan only) Ossu! Tatakae! Ouendan is a rhythm action game that puts you in charge of a trio of male cheerleaders that, much like Batman, is never far from those in need. The trio remains in a state of catlike readiness until it hears the call of "Ouendan!", or "Let's cheer!", from someone in need of help. You'll find two main modes in the game, a single-player experience that offers easy and normal difficulties, as well as an unlockable cheerleader difficulty and a multiplayer mode for two to four players.

Immediately import Ouendan, not just because it's the best game on the DS, but also because it just so happens to be one of greatest videogames ever made. [JPN Import]

A frustratingly addictive rhythm game that'll have your heart pounding and you bouncing your DS off the walls. [NGC Pocket - JPN Import]

The mixture of rhythmic gameplay and great music makes my hand feel like it’s dancing while I play. I can't think of another game that does that. [JPN Import]

This is one of the best games on the DS. It’s extremely fun, very challenging, has a spectacularly good presentation, and is one of the funniest games I’ve had the chance to play in a while.

Tremendously quirky and different, Ouendan is a game that will bring a smile to your face every time you play it. Buying it right now is recommended. Stop reading! Go import, now! [JPN Import]

The game is so addictive that you will find yourself trying the same story countless times. And when you finally do succeed, the sun breaks through the thunder clouds and the birds start to sing beautiful songs in your honour. [JPN Import]

This was the first Japanese game that I was more than happy to play without understanding any of it. This truely is something not to be missed. [JPN Import]

Ouendan 2 may not bring anything new to the existing formula, but for those who played both EBA and the original Ouendan and are still asking for seconds, Ouendan 2 will deliver.

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan oozes style, energy and vibrancy every second that it's switched on. Every frame of animation, every beat of every tune of every level is bristling with life and charm. But more than that, it brings out these qualities in everyone who plays it.

It's hard to think of a better example of a game which couldn't be done on any system other than Nintendo's little box of wonders. It works perfectly and the combination of polished, slick visuals and a wide range of great Japanese tunes is more reminiscent of the second or third game in a series, not a debut. [JPN Import]

Overcomes its simplicity with sheer brilliance, pure fun, and a little wackiness. (Okay, a lot of wackiness.) This is one of those "Only in Japan" games that could do extremely well in North America or Europe if the decision is made to bring it west. [JPN Import]

Currently the best game on the DS and one of 2005’s finest on any console. Packed full with the kind of originality and charisma that most games can only dream about. [JPN Import]

But by far the coolest option in the whole game and one which should be included in all stylus only games is the option to play the game right handed or left handed. [JPN Import]

Not only is Ouendan a lovely little souvenir, it's also an example of just how much fun a rhythm game can be and the newly-proclaimed pride and joy of my DS collection.

Overall, Ouendan is a beautifully accomplished piece of software: confident, imaginative, demanding; and it’s another crucial example of how games don’t need elaborate realism to be immersive, or have thousands of lines of dialogue to pack an emotional punch. [Oct 2005, p.94]
G4 TV
Great sound, thoroughly entertaining gameplay, and amusing visuals make this a primo DS import game for now. This is an excellent music game by any standard, and a great example of how the DS can do things no other system can. [JPN Import]

It's high-on impossible to tire of Ouedan's incredible style and choice selection of J-rock covers no matter how many times you have to sit through them. [Nov 2005, p.114]

Dennis M. gave it a9:
Awesome -- played this one after already having played Elite Beat Agents which has some additional features. Otherwise, would've ranked it 10. The songs are catchy and the game has a fun mood overall. Even my wife, who traditionally doesn't play much in the way of games -- especially imports -- likes it.
David F. gave it a10:
This game is one of the best games, and best series if EBA counts. While I like both EBA and Ouendan, both its pros and cons to me equals the awesomeness of both of them out.
Lewis K. gave it a10:
One of the best original music rhythm game I've ever encountered! It has a great list of 15 songs. All of which are very catchy to listen to. The stories for each song are also very funny and have a great manga style. The gameplay is very addictive with the use of the stylus to touch-tap. It is impossible to give this game a miss. All in all, an excellent game!
Haas gave it a9:
Amazing game, if youre not into music games/ have no rhythm it may not be for you. If youre really good at music games you may have to wait until you unlock hard mode to get a real challenge. But the music rules, and I cant wait to finish typing this comment so I can go play it
Richard B. gave it a9:
a brilliant game easy to play without knowing any Japanese catchy tunes and very addictive. its great to do a whole song without any bum notes for a massive combo!
D W gave it a10:
With a truly Japanese sense of humor and an amazing use of the touch screen this beat-matching game is the best to come out so far for the platform. Knowledge of Japanese is not necessary with this import as the touch based controls are all number-based. A little guess work (or a google search for the translations) is needed on the menus, but it's debilitating... just consider it a mini-game.
Michael C. gave it a10:
A fantastic game. It was while watching a friend of mine playing this that I was finally persuaded to buy a DS! Definitely one of the very best games on the system.
