Summary
Shoot, attack and stave off the assault by defeating all the Invaders on the screen. After annihilating a battalion of Invaders and defeating the Boss, players move on to the next stage. But it’s "Game Over" if players lose all of their stock cannons! [Square Enix]

Gaming Age
One of the better things you could spend $20 on the system for, and something every DS owner should pick up.

Compared to the first game, Space Invaders Extreme 2 is not a huge development. This is no bad thing however, as the Space Invaders magic is still present here.

Overall, Space Invaders Extreme 2 is a very worthy sequel to the original. If you liked the first game, you should run out right now and buy this one. If you haven’t tried either one, this sequel is a better package overall.

If you’re looking for something to cure boredom on long car rides, wanting something to cure that nostalgia itch, or simply are looking for a great game for cheap than look no further than Space Invaders Extreme 2.

Space Invaders Extreme 2 doesn’t try to put the original game Space Invaders into a “2009 look”, it exactly does it the other way around! The enthralling game doesn’t let you stop playing it!

Furious, tense and surprisingly deep, Space Invaders Extreme 2 is the gaming equivalent of a sugar-high. An addictive and compulsive experience, no shoot-em-up fan should pass this one by.

The first Space Invaders Extreme was a new start for the popular series, and this new installment is an evolution and a notable improvement in comparison.

This is retro at its best, a perfect example of how to renovate a three decade old franchise.

It's a dazzling experience, combining carefree spectacle with careful score attack, a game that's as concerned with its looks as the precision of its underlying mathematical systems. [JPN Import; June 2009, p.94]
Thunderbolt
If you don’t import, you’ll never get to experience one of the best retro shooters on the DS. You’ll never get to experience the joy of taking down the ridiculously huge bosses. Or get lost in the chaos of the streamlined mini-games. Or get the rush from successfully pulling off a Bingo Combo and unleashing your mightiest weapons. [JPN Import]

Space invaders Extreme 2 reaffirms that remaking a classic can be done in a very thoughtful and entertaining way. Its gameplay is clever and addicting, and its stunning presentation makes a strong impression.

Space Invaders Extreme 2 offers a better gameplay system than the first extreme edition appeared the last year. The amazing crazy visual effects, the funny and retro enemies with the score and time attack modes give to us an addictive experience. The best retro shooter and one of the best games in this year on Nintendo DS.

Definitely pick this up if you liked the original. It will likely stay in your DS for quite some time.

Somehow, the developers wrung all this out of a simplistic 30-year-old game that hasn't stood the test of time. That is a true accomplishment, and at $20 purchasing this title is a no-brainer.

Overall, Space Invaders Extreme 2 offers more fun shooter action. If you liked the first one, go grab this $20 bargain. It’s just too bad that PSP and Xbox Live Arcade fans of the series are left in the lurch for the time being.

Space Invaders Extreme 2 keeps the same addictive elements that made the first game so good and adds a few new features, but it's more of an incremental improvement.

An old classic reborn and a must for shooter fans. Be warned: it's more addictive than ever. [Oct 2009, p.79]
Game Over Online
With an enhanced battle system, extra game modes, tweaked gameplay and cooperative wireless play on the DS, the game delivers on one of the single most overlooked factors in game production: fun. Space Invaders Extreme 2 is addictive and fun.

Space Invaders Extreme 2 is more balanced and involving than its predecessor. Its intricate combo scoring is more accessible, deeper and more addictive than the first game's, and it has plenty of longevity.
Looks like a mish-mash of retro graphics, dated gameplay and a thumping dance soundtrack, but it combines to be something brilliant. The gameplay is deceptively deep, the high score chasing is dangerously addictive, and the presentation is just as about as stylish as Space Invaders could possibly be. This is a must own for DS-owning arcade gamers.

This is still a brilliant, addictive shooter that will keep you coming back, aiming for that high score.
Space Invaders Extreme 2 is a fun and solid shooter that exudes tons of old-school charm and addictive gameplay. Unfortunately, it doesn't add much new for fans of the first game, and feels pretty stagnant as a result.

Not radically different from last year's Space Invaders reboot, Extreme 2 offers new enemy formations and bosses, a Time Attack mode, and branching levels. [Dec 2009, p.88]
GameSpy
It's still a fantastic update to an arcade classic, and it's hard to argue with its low $20 price tag -- if you happened to miss the first installment, don't make the same mistake twice.

It's Space Invaders, done really well with killer future-retro graphics and gameplay. [Oct 2009, p.82]

The granddaddy of all shoot 'em-ups returns in one of the most accomplished retro updates ever seen.

The big question is, can this sequel offer enough for anyone who has already played the original to death. And the answer is a resounding yes. [Nov 2009, p.130]
Armchair Empire
I really like the fact I can pop open Space Invaders Extreme 2. play for ten minutes and feel like I've had a satisfying game experience.

Not much has changed since the last invasion, but Space Invaders Extreme 2 is still a fun, vibrant reimagining of a classic game.
Extreme 2, though, offers little to differentiate itself. It's a coincidental callback to 1979's Space Invaders Part II: most of the improvements will matter to those who were already obsessed. For some, that's probably enough for a buy, and if you haven't played SI Extreme before, now's the time, as you're still getting an enjoyable rewrite of an arcade classic. But those who had a passing fancy before can pass it up for the time being.
