A must-own for every fan of Ultimate Mortal Kombat. The arcade-perfect gameplay and the addition of online multiplayer make this port an irresistible package.

There is definitely value to be had in Midway’s Ultimate Mortal Kombat for the Nintendo DS. While it doesn’t bring anything new to the table, the tried and true gameplay works very nicely on the handheld and is a great pick up and play game for those times when you’re waiting for the bus to pick you up or have 15 to 30 minutes to kill.

If you like your fighting retro then Ultimate Mortal Kombat is the game for you, and the addition of "Puzzle Kombat" and Wi-Fi combat makes it a great package. [Feb 2008, p.70]

Ultimate Mortal Kombat is definitely a worthy pickup for any fan of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

The addition of online play is certainly UMK’s biggest selling point. If you are a huge fan of the series and plan to take the skirmishes online there is no reason to hesitate picking this one up. This is by far the best portable Kombat game to date.

Simple as the presentation is, the two titles are well developed. If all you want is a really solid, fun version of Mortal Kombat 3 that can go online, that's what you're going to get. It's good stuff all around.

Online fighting action with loads of blood, comical fatalities and a slightly dodgy bonus puzzle mode. Hardly 'ultimate' but fun all the same. [Feb 2008, p.69]

A fine arcade port but ironically it lacks the guts of more modern scrappers. [Feb 2008, p.69]

Ultimate Mortal Kombat is the real deal, and it’s mind-blowing to think that I can not only play it at home, like I used to daydream about, but it fits snugly right in my pocket.

Any gripes I have about this package are about the games themselves and not the quality of the port. Suffice it to say, if you like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Puzzle Kombat, this is a great package that does justice to both games.

If you've never understood the tongue-in-cheek appeal of the series this obviously won't change your mind, but if you're constantly suppressing the urge to pull out someone's spine while on the bus to work, it's a relatively inexpensive and consequence-free route to doing so.

Mortal Kombat is an acquired taste and is looked down upon by most coin-op fighter enthusiasts because of its lack of strategy and its stiffness of control. UMK3 got rid of the stiffness, and the game truly is playable on the DS if you can get by the fact that the D-Pad is so small.

Ultimate MK is a sharp fighting game that's still a lot of fun, but only against live opponents.

There aren’t that many fighting games for the DS so Ultimate Mortal Kombat doesn’t have much competition but it’s still a good fighting game, pardon the cliché, on the go.

Long-time fans of Mortal Kombat will want to pick up this game for its online multiplayer, but others may be turned off by its dated gameplay and presentation, and poor single-player experience. On the other hand, the DS hasn’t been graced by many fighters, making Ultimate Mortal Kombat potentially the best one available on the platform.

The presentation and gameplay hold true to the MK standards, and the ability to track wins and losses is a nice addition, if you feel like boasting about your fighting skills.

A great online-enabled emulation of a so-so fighting game (plus a lame puzzle game) which looks rather anaemic now that violence in video gaming is nothing to rave on about.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat isn't quite the Ultimate collection of Mortal Kombat games but is still a lot of fun and is a game that Mortal Kombat fans should definitely pick up.

A kompelling combination of a klassic bloody brawler and spin-off mini-game, Ultimate Mortal Kombat's few flaws are dealt a good kicking by the game's awesome online multiplayer.

If you're looking for a fighting game that uses the DS in innovative ways then you need to look elsewhere, but if you simply want the classic game you know and love to play in the palm of your hand then snap this up and battle away!

It’s hard to truly recommend UMK. But the genre isn’t abundant on the DS, and Mortal Kombat still retains some of its charm.

Not quite as ultimate as the title suggests, but Ultimate Mortal Kombat is still a faithful port of the classic Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

No, truth be told, this is far from the quintessential handheld MK experience. Mortal Kombat Unchained did more for the PSP and it's available at $20 less than this release over at EB Games.

If only its sedate beginning and dreary atmosphere didn't make it a throwaway extra, we'd probably recommend it. But we won't.

Lack of depth and silly expectations from the AI are what drag it down. Still, at least with the commands on the top screen you'll be able to execute fatalities and make the offenders feel your vengeful wrath more easily than before.

Cyco D. gave it a5:
Do not buy for its single player game, because the AI is so ramped up and impossibly difficult your DS is at risk of being flung at high velocity against the wall in frustration. Please, think of the DS.

Neil M. gave it a10:
This is a surprising DS game. The Puzzle Kombat game is easily worth the purchase price alone. Its as good if not better than Capcom's Puzzle Fighter Turbo. Plus its got wifi multiplayer. UMK3 needs no explanation BUY THIS GAME!

Ralph D. gave it a9:
This game is an arcade emulation of the original, therefore it is 100% perfect. For those oldschool mk gamers, this one is a must have. It's the arcade machine in your pocket!

Ed F. gave it a9:
Very fun game. It is the fast paced MK we know and love. Although very simple in its presentation, as some online parts could have been transferred over like win streaks from the arcade version as well as leaderboard stats in the online mode, the game does a nice job. Online is fun and people are always there to play.

Marc H. gave it a10:
This game is the bomb on the DS...looks and plays so great! If you like Mortal Kombat you will love it now on the DS. Flawless Victory!!!
