Play both sides as Ultimate Spider-Man allows players to take on the role of super hero Spider-Man AND super villain Venom. Penned and illustrated by famed comic book creators Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley, the game picks up right where the story left off. Dive into an immersive adventure as you experience a living comic book illustrated with 3D Comic Inking Technology that literally brings the comic to life in every action-packed frame. The game's expanded, free-roaming environments deliver a deep adventure with a variety of challenging missions, diverse game play and an improved combat system that allows players to face off against the largest number of characters from the Spider-Man universe ever assembled in one video game. Game Chronicles
This is definitely the ultimate superhero experience on the DS, making the most of the dual screen for presentation and gameplay and a valiant attempt at touch screen control.

Gamezilla!
The comic book quality graphics and spot on story telling are the icing on an already fun to play, easy to control game.

WHAM! Gaming
It ended just in time - the end of the game comes down to, more than anything, one big boss battle after another - and left us with a true feeling of accomplishment.

PGNx Media
The game boasts fun 2D gameplay mixed with an impressive 3D presentation. The story and storytelling are awesome, perhaps the best on the Nintendo DS.

GamingTrend
The game is varied enough and contains enough special moves to give you a few runs though without feeling like complete repetition.

Worth Playing
The action-packed gameplay is extremely well done, and the overall polish of the whole experience might be found in the console version of the game.

The touchscreen sequences for Venom are well done and use that feature of the DS to the gamer’s advantage. But the Spidey sequences under-use the touch screen, and the sound can be a little tinny at times, when heard through the DS speaker.

Gaming Nexus
Follows the plot to the letter and serves up its own unique style of gameplay, but the controls need some polish. Like the console releases it has a short lifespan and little to no replay value afterwards, but it’s still plenty of hectic fun while it lasts.

IGN
Absolutely fantastic storytelling using animated dual-screen comic panels with extensive voice over. It's the driving force of the entire production.

It's just a marvelous and beautifully constructed adventure game.

There are some flaws in the game, but its distinctive visual style and upgraded gameplay give it a slight edge over the web-slinger's earlier DS outing.

Thunderbolt
It’s a huge improvement over its DS predecessor, treating gamers to a new and darker storyline. Not only does it have the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man doing what he does best, but it also lets you step into the claws of one of the hero’s most amazing and deadly enemies.

A fantastic representation of the comic book. The story is compelling, if short, and the gameplay is fun for the most part.

Cheat Code Central
It's not a long game and the mutliplayer aspects won't elongate your enjoyment of the title by any stretch. At the end of the day it's just more Spider-Man and maybe that's enough for you.

The cell shaded look is effective, and all the environments feel vibrant.

A noble experiment that fails to achieve its full potential. [Dec 2005, p.121]

Armchair Empire
A solid game that gets bogged down far too often to be considered great.

Joeking gave it a9:
This is an excellent game. Good use of the stylus with Venom. The stylus use otherwise seems like a bit of an afterthought (oh, let's throw in a quick stylus stroke here!) Difficult boss battles make the relatively short storyline still take some time. Were it a bit longer, it would earn a 10.

Tony G. gave it an8:
exellent game. like the 2d/3d style. more games in this caliber should be in the works more than 3d titles for this sytem. this is a hard core 2d gamers machine. long live 2d!! imagine a castlevania game in this style, or even in the style of contra shattered soldiers for the ps2!?!? that would be a castlevania fan dream come true! and mine!

Adam gave it a9:
Story was a little short and did not follow the ultimate storyline, but everything else was an A.

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
Great graphics! Venom play is fun!
