Hurtle through space at mind-boggling speeds as Captain Falcon and the galaxy's best pilots race for glory! Nintendo and SEGA--both accomplished masters of high-speed fun--have collaborated to create the fastest, most visually stunning racing game ever! F-Zero GX is the race to end all races, as fearless pilots risk everything to claim the title of the top speedster in the universe. Captain Falcon and 29 other pilots head to exotic star cities, like the neon-lit Mute City, lush Green Plant, wealthy Port Town and the storm-wracked streets of Lightning to race at supersonic speeds. In addition, players can save their racer to a Memory Card and race with it at arcades on F-Zero AX. [Nintendo]

Few games deserve the high praise we're willing to lavish on F-Zero GX. Finely tuned, tightly balanced and exceedingly fun, it is a step above and beyond any similar games that have come before.

From a graphical standpoint, the game is mind-blowing. The characters and vehicles all look good, but what’s really impressive is the backgrounds around each race and how fast they go screaming by.

I couldn't stop playing F-Zero GX. It's refreshing to see a racing game ditching the sim elements that seem to be a prerequisite nowadays in favor of more arcadey gameplay. [Oct 2003, p.46]

It's deep, it's visually stunning in the fact that it has a background to judge the incredible speeds, and what is more, it controls so bloody intuitively that Amusement Vision was able to create some truly mindbending tracks with which to torture you.

The gameplay is sumptuous, and is helped along considerably by a smooth learning curve and a constant 60fps update. The biggest surprise of all, and one which we’ve mentioned several times, is the depth the game has to offer.

Few games leave my hands sweaty and clenched around the controller like F-Zero GX does. The difficulty level may scare away some new players (and maybe even some old ones), but it's a fun ride even when you’re not winning.

Exhilarating and beautiful... For as much as the game is about speed and visual impact, it is also about feel and the overlooked art of track design. The game slams you in your seat, but it's also infused with the kind of stubtlety and attention to detail that only truly talented developers can muster. [Sept 2003, p.74]

Everything we hoped it would be. While the excessive speeds on some courses can approach eye-melting territory, this only becomes a problem on a couple of tracks, and even then it only encourages better course knowledge and use of boosts. [Oct 2003, p.120]

What should have been a fast, flashy, light-hearted affair is somehow grim and joyless. There's wonderful content here, but unfortunately most gamers won't ever see most of it because it's locked away behind a series of near-impossible challenges.

J J gave it an8:
I recently got a Wii and bought this game used for $15. It's a fun game, and the tracks aren't that hard themselves, just the different challenges may be near impossible. That said, I wish Nintendo stopped making everything look like it's for 7 year old kids. The game is too difficult and intense for young players, yet the characters and ships look childish. Second, I think they could have made the courses a bit more interesting. Some courses are amazing, but they could do so much more. Third, the music is really bland and generic. It hardly fits the intensity of the game. Overall though, it's a good game and worth the cheap used price it sells for now.

Karl N. gave it a3:
I don't know why people think that this game is good. The characters look stupid. The 80's rock anthems grate on my ears. The ships are hard to drive.

Cobra J. gave it a10:
What an amazing game. This game destroys F-Zero X by far. The graphics are awesome, and the game really makes you feel like you're racing at 2000 km/h! I recommend this game to anyone.

Simon Y. gave it an8:
This game gives you a real adrenaline rush but the Grand prix mode is too easy as you can boost your way through it.

Will gave it a10:
Best futuristic racing game ever. People who bitch at the difficulty just suck at video games. The difficulty is actually curved in a way that makes sense as long as you know how to play the game. The graphics are extremely impressive given they are delivered at a solid 60fps. There is no other game that I've ever played that delivers on such a great sense of speed like this game does.

Adam F. gave it a9:
The difficulty level in story mode is INSANE, and it 'aint a game for people just looking for a casual drive around a track. Still, I love F-zero GX. For all hardcore racing fans out there, this game will challenge you for (literally) years, and the racing (mostly due to incredible speed and awesome music) never truly get old.

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
If you have played F-Zero X like I have, you'd agree that the graphics are one giant step up from its N64 predecessor. When you make your custom machine, it sucks that you can't personally name it, but that doesn't take my rating down. This game is sweet.
