Bobby "Scaler" Johnson got more than he bargained for when he stumbled upon his next door neighbor's evil plot to take over the world by stealing all the lizards and training them to become his mutant army. Bobby takes on his enemies in ways kids will only have dreamed of...by transforming into one of them. Sneaky, elusive, witty and hysterical – this unexpected hero will keep you guessing just what will happen next. Shape-sift your way through the levels. Take the shape and abilities of 10 different baddies, key to progressing through the game! Camouflage into with your environment to sneak past foes. Work your way through the worlds by vine-surfing, a combination of skateboarding and a roller coaster, used to fly through the levels faster than the speed of light. As you speed along, gather an electrical charge to send an electric shock at enemies. Explore levels full of exotic plants, wondrous creatures and beautiful worlds. An unlikely hero in a strange situation with many comedic moments. [Global Star]

IGN
What it lacks in innovation it more than makes up in style, humor and solid game mechanics. Controls feel smooth and responsive and the action is always brisk. The inclusion of evolutionary transformations is an especially nice touch.

Scaler is fun and easy to play. Its colorful characters will be sure to satisfy the children out there.

Cheat Code Central
With living, breathing backgrounds, smooth animation and a colorful cartoon presentation the graphics are nothing short of amazing for a game in this price range.

To be fair, the game is aimed at kids and it’s by no means poor – the fact that it’s available for less than twenty quid doesn’t exactly hurt either.

Nintendo Power
Although much of the action is standard platformer fare, sliding on vines is zany fun. [Feb 2005, p.113]

eToychest
It’s not entirely engaging or original, but it is fun. It’s attractive, sounds nice, and the story—for all its faults—can be ignored safely with no detrimental effects.

There's nothing especially wrong with it to make it something worth drawing ire over, but at the same time, it never finds a way to actually draw you into its experience, and it just seems to lack the intangible qualities needed to make a truly successful platformer.

There is an element of comedy in Scaler and it is very welcome -it does lack the wittiness of, say, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, but it does make the game that much more enjoyable.

Game Power Australia
Straddles the line between good design and mediocrity so consistently that it's hard to love it or hate it.

Gaming Age
It does well by the proven conventions of the games before it; The story is, at the very least, entertaining to watch unfold and there’s more than enough game for $20.

Game Informer
Wow, generic platform games have reached a new pinnacle of dull and cliche. [Feb 2005, p.113]

Alisa H. gave it a9:
It's a fun entertaining game that sometimes if you just feel like crawling like a lizard or something this is the game to play, what else can I say? Now if you'll excuse I'm going to go play some Scaler.

Kat gave it a9:
I don't care what Game Informer said. They can't tell good games when they see them. I think a game starring lizards is great!

Zudy The Destroyer gave it a0:
Do we need another platform game starring dragon with bright childlike graphics? NO.
