Second-generation rider physics provide more in-air and on-snow user control. Compete in the World Circuit, go head-to-head in the unique Showoff (trick) versions of nine courses on the World Circuit, or just kick it in Free Ride. New Garibaldi and Alaska courses let you get more vertical and catch more air, while all the original courses have some new surprises. [Electronic Arts]

It has great competitive factions, a large line-up of diverse skaters, and some of the most mind-blowing, thumb-numbing, breathtaking tricks yet seen on a console snowboarding game.

Wonderfully addictive. [Dec 2001, p.168]

The sequel doesn’t stray far from the original, but SSX Tricky has far more personality and the ultimate tricks wired—rewarding gameplay and a high replay value.

The audio is great and worth listen with a Dolby pro-logic receiver, and the graphics, while flawed are truly of next-generation quality.

Put simply, this is certainly worth giving a go if you’re looking for some high-speed thrills, death-defying leaps and gorgeous eye candy.

One of those games that you switch on intending to have a quick blast, then find yourself staring square-eyed at in the early hours.

For future releases in this series, it’d be nice if there were more customization options and musical selections but those are minor gripes to what was, generally, a favorable experience.

The gameplay is hectic, the new trick system adds substantial depth, and the overall production is top-notch...But if you have a choice, the PS2 version is recommended.

I am truly amazed at how well the GameCube controller performs with SSX Tricky.

It’s a great game, but it lacks the bells and whistles within the founding PS2 release. [Feb 2002, p.87]

My first and only gripe about the game is the learning curve on the game's controls.

Even if you've played the original, SSX Tricky is a fantastic game of fast paced action and tons of surprises.

With all this brilliance, it would be easy to overlook the sound in the game, but this is one of the high points of the makeover.

The Gamecube version of SSX Tricky manages to retain the most important quality of the PS2 version - the fun - despite having a few flaws. This is a very good game, and while it's not quite as polished as the PS2, it's still worth the money for Gamecube owners.

When comparing Tricky side-by-side with the GC and PS2, the PS2 wins hands down. It if obvious that this is a port from the PS2 to the GC and not the other way around.

It takes mind-blowing environments and mixes them with realistically moving and sounding characters that create one of the best pseudo-realities ever.

A solid racer with highly addicting gameplay, a nice variety of modes, and enough hidden extras to keep even the most dedicated rider occupied all winter long.

The control mechanics, still usable, have been sloppily adapted to GameCube's controller, which makes for a tricking environment that is not nearly intuitive as it is on Sony's console.

Lifespan is the main issue here, as everything else is in place. It took me a week to finish Race and Showoff mode with one character. There is loads left, though, so the potential for a long lasting game is there, it just really depends on whether or not you want to go through it all again and again.

Dave B. gave it a 10:
In some ways this game is still better than SSX3. They're both awesome, must-own games for any system!

Shirley M. gave it a 9:
This game is very fun to play, has a great two player mode, and lots of unlockables. It has easy controls, which are not oversensitive, just right. But BEST of all is the opening video! That gets me so motivated and enthusiastic! If you own a GC you should purchase this game. :D

Uter gave it a 10:
There aren't many gc games i consider to be 'must own'. but this is definately one of them. it puts most other snowboarding games to shame.

Isaac gave it a 9:
A fantastic game, on all platforms. To really enjoy with the GCN controller however, you MUST go to Options and enable the "Pro" control scheme. Otherwise prewinding spins requires you to move your thumb off of the main stick which spoils the feel (as Armchair Empire complains).

Michael F. gave it a 9:
It's great and all but it needs more players.

Ryan M. gave it a 10:
Now, I'm not a big fan of snowboarding games. But this has to be one of the slickest extreme sports games ever.

Bruce C. gave it a 9:
For a port from another console, this is a mighty good game. Excellent graphics, good gameplay, and lots of lengthy race courses give this game a huge amount of play time.
