Hot Games

The graphics are superb for a GBA game, with colorful characters that take up a good chunk of the screen, and bright, detailed backgrounds.

If you haven't bought Final Fight One already, you should probably buy two or three copies, just to be safe. Everybody knows they will be the currency of a post-apocalyptic future where cops have periods in the middle of their names and chandeliers fall from the ceiling to reveal delicious roasts.

Pocket Games

The best home conversion yet, better than the Sega CD version, and possibly the arcade. [Winter 2001, p.50]

IGN

It's not an entirely deep game, but it's very satisfying from start to finish.

Obviously old school fans of these kinds of games will be impressed by the graphics and fast paced gameplay, but as I mentioned, if this isn't your thing there isn't much else in the way of gameplay.

All Game Guide

Simply put, Final Fight One is the arcade game shrunk down to portable size. It offers nothing more or less than what you’d expect from such a transformation.

Thunderbolt

Besides this awesome little cartridge, the drama of Metro City is limited on this generation of gaming machines. Maybe it’s the dying out of beat ‘em up games and general that has lent to this game’s obscurity.

Nintendophiles

The game itself is extremely short and can be beat in less than two hours or so; however, unlocking all the features and playing all five characters adds to the replay value.

Repetitive, primitive and even a bit tedious...and I dug every minute of it. [Nov 2001, p.220]

The gameplay in FFO is very accurate despite fewer on-screen enemies than the incredibly hectic and awesome arcade version and the extras are pretty cool.

It may not be flashy, the gameplay might be incredibly unsophisticated and repetitive, and the whole game is certainly showing its age—but it’s still fun.

The visuals, the audio, and worst of all, the ability to actually enjoy the experience, have not come along so well.

Yahoo! Games

Simple, no nonsense action. Like a Stallone or Schwarzenegger movie from the 80s, it does not really cut the mustard in this flo-mo Matrix/Max Payne era.

KC A. gave it a4:
Nice graphics, very true to the arcade. But I thought this game was boring. It's been collecting dust ever since I bought it.

Harry gave it a9:
Love this game! Spend a sh*tload of money on the arcade version when I was young. And now You can play it anytime, anywhere :) It's a shame that roxy and poison are missing though. And I would have liked to see more of axl kicking butt with slash. But other than that, it's a peace of old school heaven on your gba. Final Fight was the first, and is still the best!!

Carlos gave it a7:
Sreets of rage came second and was clearly influenced by final fight! (a bit too much). But both are classic beat em ups! This conversion is arcade perfect! quality game. you can also play alpha characters from the street fighter games if you play it enough and kill enough blokes.

Eddie gave it a 9:
Aah, this brings back some great arcade memories. A great conversion of a great game. Even better than the super nintendo versions, since you get all three characters plus all the original enemies from the arcade game. Great graphics, great gameplay, great action, what more do you want??

Jonathan F. gave it a 6:
AIEEEEEEE! Average Streets of Rage clone! Give it a good kicking! Let's just hope it gets better as it goes along...
