Summary
The long-anticipated Nintendo debut of Namco's hard-hitting arcade franchise packs more wallop than a boxing glove filled with lead. At game's start, you have your choice of nine of Tekken 3's most popular fighters: Forest Law, GunJack Hwoarang, Jin Kazama, King, Ling Xiaoyu, Nina Williams, Paul Phoenix, and Yoshimitsu. Because combatants are proficient in fighting styles ranging from tae kwan do to wrestling, Tekken Advance boasts an astounding variety of moves. Far from a run-of-the-mill button-masher, Tekken Advance rewards skilled players who can string together complex chains of devastating combos. [Nintendo]

It is incredible! I have not enjoyed a portable game this much since the Game Boy Advance's launch.

Special mention going to the sound effects and music which are superb, every blow and block is recreated whilst a thumping tune plays in the background.

Easily one of the most technically impressive GBA games out there, and probably the best portable fighter as well.

Despite its small stature, the game packs more punch than many brawlers 10 times its size. [Summer 2002, p.32]
Game Informer
Tekken is pretty kick-ass on the Game Boy Advance... The game looks great. [Mar 2002, p.90]
IGN
An extremely pretty game and a relatively fun game, though it's more fun if you include an actual human opponent into the mix.

Compared to the massive rendered cutscenes in "Tekken 3," Tekken Advance looks like a small-scale side story of the series, rather than a fully-fledged sequel.

Namco may have had to cut a few corners to fit the 3D fighter onto Nintendo's handheld, but the end product looks and feels enough like the original game to succeed.

A polished 2D fighting game that won't disappoint the core audience of Tekken fans, but one that's also accessible enough for those simply looking for a well-made fighting game to play on the go.

Put into perspective and it being an ambitious "hit the ground running" success by Namco, Tekken Advance is a stunning achievement for GBA and deserves the praise lavished on it.

By combining solid pixel animations with awesome scaling and rotation effects, the developers have achieved an impressive, psuedo-3D effect.

Designed to please hard-core Tekken fans. [Dec 2001, p.172]
Electronic Gaming Monthly
Tekken loses out big time by not supporting the GBA's one-cartridge multiplayer feature. [Feb 2002, p.172]

Andrew M. gave it a9:
Impressive graphics and sound! Fantastic gameplay, and ten classic fighters. (Nina, Jin, Law, Paul, King, Hwoarang, Yoshimitsu, Jack, Xiaoyu, and Heihachi as a secret character). A bit short on characters and arenas, but thats just a minor flaw. If you find it, buy it.
