Think of Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament 2004 as being like the latest version of "Madden."

More of the same with a few enhancements. Those looking for more will be disappointed.

Where it separates itself from the real game is that it allows you to duel the characters from the show with surprising accuracy, you dont have the problems of picking up or keeping track of your cards and it allows players to play with cards they either cant afford or havent come across yet. A huge bonus.

For a Yu-Gi-Oh! videogame, Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship Tournament 2004 can be considered one of the best Yu-Gi-Oh! videogames ever made.

The game's still challenging and addictive, and we're not surprised at how engrossing it is this time around because we've already learned that fact twice before. But Konami still hasn't addressed the issues from past games, most notably adding some sort of tutorial to bring in a new audience.

A fun little card game, and it holds up well on the GBA. It was a little hard to adjust to since I'm not an avid Yu-Gi-Oh player, but once I got the hang of it, I did find myself enjoying the game quite a bit.

It's the game's bare-bones approach (card battling, deck editing and very little else) that makes WCT 2004 so damn intriguing. Under the simplistic exterior lies a game so laden with strategy and tactics that it makes our brains hurt just thinking about it. [Apr 2004, p.118]

An average card-based game. If you are a big fan of the cartoon series and you collect the cards then you should not be disappointed.

The real shame is that the interface designers didn't take more time tightening up the game flow since the last iteration. [May 2004, p.78]

Probably the best representation of the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game to date. However, as an update to what was a very good game in WWE, it doesnt go as far as it probably should.

It's about on par with a video poker machine in terms of graphics and sound. [May 2004, p.108]

Touts a few appreciable improvements over the last Yu-Gi-Oh! card battle game for the GBA, which will probably be enough to win the favor of hardcore Yu-Gi-Oh! fans, but casual card battlers who already have one of the other Yu-Gi-Oh! collectible card games for the GBA can safely skip this one without missing too much.

Some of the menus have been streamlined and the new cards look great but other than that the game looks identical to last year's game.

Like the cartoon series, this installment seems to be made with the same cookie-cutter mold and offers very little innovation or change.

With a no-nonsense interface, more than 100 new cards (to bring the total to over 1,100) and new rules for the summer's Yu-Gi-Oh card-battling competition, WCT2004 is the ultimate up-to-date card-playing sim for Yu-Gi-Oh! fans. [May 2004, p.121]

Besides the creativity that was put in to add those 100 new cards, this is actually quite a lazy game.

While there are many characters to unlock and compete with, it takes a long time to see any of them thanks to the incredibly slow rate at which you acquire powerful cards.

DPD gave it a 10:
I have beaten this game and its so much of a challenge compared to all the others.... all the cards look better than the first.... heck everythings better.
TJ gave it a 10:
This game is pretty good i already beat every deulist 10 times each and got all the booster packs but this game is awesome its much better then the Sacred cards.
Steve S. gave it a 2:
A pretty shabby game given that they stripped down the eternal duelist's soul to basically nothing and then charge you nearly $40 for it. Sure there are new cards, but many are a complete waste of time, such as 1200 attack monsters or effects no one would use. The most frustrating thing is that there isn't even a hint on how to "progress". To unlock new duelists is either straightforward, such as beating another 10 times, or completely strange, such as having a card but not putting it in your deck. On top of that, some duelists cheat. Play the ghouls, and expect to see 2 Mirror Forces, 2 Rageiki's, 2 Monster Reborns, etc.
Yami P gave it a 9:
Ive played loads of yugioh and this one is up their with da greats.
Trix gave it a 9:
People complain that this game is lacking something because it has no storyline. I disagree. This is gaming at its purest. The AI isn't perfect, it makes some foolish mistakes, but it is still very challenging. It's better than The Sacred Cards, in my opinion. because it has the two player option and follows the rules of the real card game.
Javier C. gave it a 10:
Very good.
Kidduffet Da Master gave it a 9:
About time for a new YGO game... it's much better than the sacred cards, and well, what can i say; Yu-gi-oh rules!
