Summary
As night descends over New York City, Peter Parker is reminded of his great responsibility to help his fellow citizens. But while it's one thing for a man with "spider sense" to thwart petty criminals -- it's another story to take on a sinister villain bent on your destruction! After a failed experiment turns Dr. Otto Octavius (aka Doc Ock) into a monster, the egomaniacal scientist will stop at nothing until he exacts the ultimate revenge on the one he holds responsible for humiliating him: Spider-Man. Join Spidey, Aunt May, Harry Osborne, and Mary Jane in this action-packed title that blends 2D and 3D gaming in brilliant cinematic detail. Five 3D levels give the game a cinematic feel - web-sling your way around town in search of powerups, secrets, and special items. Fifteen additional 2D levels challenge your combat skills with a variety of enemies. Defeat bosses, including newcomers Lizard and Doc Ock, each with a unique fighting style. Rich plot turns presented with 3D cutscenes between levels. [Nokia]

The 2-D levels lend this minor actioner a cartoon-like feel that is faithful to the superheros Marvel roots, but it is the four good-looking 3-D levels that really put the nGages processing power to the test.

The only problem with the game is that it is rather short and the dedicated gamer can get through it in a sitting or two. I was surprised by how different the game was to the Gameboy Advance version.

The controls are decent but dont expect the same experience you get on the console version.

The game has lofty intentions by mixing up gameplay styles, but what gamers end up with a side-scrolling game of Game Boy Advance caliber (which is not an insult) interrupted by jaggy, un-fun PSone 3-D swingfests.

I certainly appreciate the ambition with regard to the 3D swinging sections, but there isn't enough good material to push this game above its impressive, but un-fun tech demo feel. [Sept 2004, p.118]
Console Gameworld
Just not that much fun to play, especially with the technical issues. They threw in some impressive 3D graphics, but it was only for the visual appeal. The 3D rounds have no relevance to the game and ultimately make the rest of the game suffer.

Suitable only for the kids on long journeys or perhaps rabid Spiderman fans. Just make sure there are headphones though or there will still be trouble on that journey, as the music and sounds will soon annoy.

While by no means a disaster, the N-Gage version could be the worst Spider-Man game in some time.

While portions of the game show promise, Spider-Man 2's jerky gameplay and occasional crash bugs overshadow these promising points.

Spider-Man 2 attempts to combine 2D and 3D levels in one adventure, but neither makes the game seem completed. It almost seems like its 50% complete all the levels are in place, now they need to tweak them in order to add the fun.

A sloppy game that's difficult to recommend and certainly not worth its asking price. A disappointing release.

Often the objectives are not as clear as they could be, leaving you to wander about like a vagabond until luck happens to fall in your favor. Still, the level designs themselves are well thought out for the most part, but even the most ingenious designs wear then on the fourth or fifth pass through.

A major dud on the N-Gage, ill-equipped with its unlikable gameplay, its horrid 3D sequences, and its lack of general excitement.
