Summary
Ride your music. Audiosurf is a music-adapting puzzle racer where you use your own music to create your own experience. The shape, the speed, and the mood of each ride is determined by the song you choose. You earn points for clustering together blocks of the same color on the highway, and compete with others on the internet for the high score on your favorite songs. Audiosurf on Steam includes The Orange Box soundtrack, integrated with the game to enable "Still Alive" surfing and more. In addition, Audiosurf is one of the first titles to leverage the recently announced Steamworks, offering full support for the Steam Achievements that appear on Steam Community profile pages. [Valve]

I can see anyone coming back to this again and again over the next few years, and that's more than enough to justify the peanuts they're asking for Audiosurf.

The game is simple, it is good, it includes the Orange Box soundtrack, and it's a 10-dollar title that will outlast many 50-dollar games. No more words are necessary; only action is needed.

The game is simple, addictive, and fun, and the way the track moves and shakes to the beat of the music will keep your attention much better than most casual games.
The basic fusion of the core puzzle gameplay and the dynamic spin that the music applies to this is delightfully successful in itself, but is stretched even further by a drive for perfection.

AudioSurf is very good value for money. It’s fun, fresh, and addicting.

Obviously a work of passion, Audiosurf is a game that must not be missed by anyone, especially with an above average interest in music.

As any addicting game goes, you can lose hours in its flashy presentation or just play a few songs before going to bed at night. Either way you will get your moneys worth.

Frankly, if your pocket allows it, skip the demo version and just buy the game directly - I guarantee you won't regret it.

The exhilarating rush of climbing a hill as a song builds up, and crashing down a slope as the music explodes through the speakers is incredible. At first it may seem like a fancy visualiser, but after mastering the more difficult modes it becomes insanely addictive. [May 2008, p.65]
Jolt Online Gaming UK
While the game at its heart may be simple, and the presentation equally so, AudioSurf’s near perfect melding of music and gameplay guarantees your fiver will be well spent. That’s right – a fiver.

Audiosurf is about experiencing music with more than your ears. [June 2008, p.75]
Game Positive
Audiosurf is an experience unlike any other, and at very least deserves kudos for that. The best part is the game is only $10, and that's a great value for what you get.

A better fusion of casual and hardcore gameplay styles would be difficult to come by, particularly one with such boundless source material. The game is yours to manipulate as it readily acquiesces to your mood, making it a worth playing on nearly any occasion, for any reason, for any person.

The arcade style of gameplay in which the difficulty increases to make new levels more challenging is going to bore the novelty seekers, but hardcores will appreciate the virtually unlimited replay value, the two-player mode, and the online leaderboard.

A very relaxing music game where you pilot a futuristic vehicle and race different tracks. You can add your own music into the game and the songs will be transformed into new racing tracks, so you will always have plenty of different types of tracks. The game mechanics and graphics are pretty simple, which is a bit disappointing. [May 2008]
games(TM)
A game that almost anyone with a love of music will enjoy. [Apr 2008, p.122]
GameCritics
Of all the games in this feature, Audiosurf is the one most reassuringly rich in innovation and potential, and proves beyond question that plastic instruments and pricey downloadable content are not the be-all and end-all of the rhythm action genre.

If you're really into your music collection and want to do something with it besides listen to it, you'll love AudioSurf.

The connection with the song and tapping into your musical taste is enthralling, but the project ins't quite all it could be... yet. [May 2008, p.110]
PC Zone UK
A technological feat mingled with a fun, yet shallow game. [May 2008, p.76]
GameSpot
Audiosurf's addictive gameplay is a fun new way to experience your music collection.

Audiosurf takes the other approach: It breaks down your mp3s and lets you play a game on top of them, in the form of a spaceship that has to race on a winding track while stars explode at the sound of a hi-hat.
At the very worst, it's an ingenious multimedia toy that'll have you dusting off the untouched corners of your MP3 collection for a few happy evenings. But for those twitching fingers that still enjoy the thrill of the high score, Audiosurf has the potential to become a bite-sized obsession thanks to its quick fix gameplay and infinite musical possibilities.

Kyle B gave it a9:
Slowly but surely, this game is becoming better then it first came out, with some users being able to customize the look slightly of audiosurf. I personally changed a few of the splash effects and rings as such, to something different for something new.. Although there are numerous game modes, even to this day in my opinion the most challenging would have to be the hardest mono, trying to get stealth on ironmode, which might i add should give more score then it does.. A great game, which i play casually, of which quite oftenly end up trying to compete against friends for a top spot on particular songs.. at least against their scores.. Hopefully one day, it might be made even better looking then it is currently, but considering it was made by one person.. it is great and worth the money.
Tomas J. gave it a9:
First. This game uses a shitty engine. Second, this game was made by one guy. So, lets say - its good for the $10 (or 10€ I payed) - because I actually played over 40 hours on it already, and I own it for 2 weeks now. You can play your music all day on different modes, and some of them are REALLY challenging, in terms of you have to really need a strategy or you will fail.
Chris J gave it a9:
great game, simple, lets you do something while listening to music, can entertain for hours
Jim S gave it an8:
Wonderfully addicting, intuitive gameplay that appeals to everyone who isn't easily susceptible to motion-sickness. Rating at an 8 since this simple game runs much heavier than it needs to, but for the price and broad appeal it simply cannot be beat.
Daniel R gave it a10:
This game takes your music to a whole new level. I decided to try out the demo. Having watched a YT video of someone riding The Final Countdown, I decided to give it a try. I played 2 songs (out of the 5 in the demo), and looked at the price. When I saw I was only gonna be £5 out of pocket, I decided that this game was well worth it! I would have been willing to spend up to £20 on this game. Bargain if ever I saw one! This game is a case of "get it or go die" it's just that brilliant.
Nicholas O gave it a9:
First off, to all the low ratings - THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE GUITAR HERO. YOU WANT GUITAR HERO, BUY GUITAR HERO. Jesus. Anyway. Great game. Cheap, and you get more than your money's worth. It's easy to learn (especially with the rather smart tutorials!) and it's difficult to master (I still haven't aced it yet after months, and I play hardest difficulties!). I'm not giving it a perfect ten, because there are some bugs that can't be fixed (Quest3D bugs, sometimes the detector utterly failboats beyond hope), but it deserves a 9 for awesomeness.
Sven R gave it a10:
The best non-shooter-game i've ever played. this game is more addicting then some Shooter, of course its simple, but it includes very much fun. And, for additional, this game has the most possible "maps".
