Summary
The online functionality of all three platforms ensures that for the very first time, fans of the Olympic Games can experience the thrill of competing against other gamers across the globe in the world’s greatest sporting event. Beijing 2008 is a simulation of over 35 events from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and allows gamers to experience the thrill of competing in many of the official venues ranging from the famous Beijing National Stadium (the "Bird Nest") to the National Aquatics Center (the "Water Cube"). In addition, Beijing 2008 incorporates innovative control schemes that allow novice gamers to learn how to play the game, while providing experienced gamers the chance to set new records. Through the addition of online gameplay and a variety of game modes never seen in an official video game of the Olympic Games before, Beijing 2008 truly allows gamers to experience the "Olympic Spirit. PC Games (Germany)
Comprehensive sports game that lets you experience the Olympic Summer Games, but gets boring to soon.

Unfortunately, Beijing 2008 transmits hardly any atmosphere. Is a view of the stadium or sportsmen preparing for competition in the background too much to ask for? Nevertheless, due to the huge amount of disciplines, the game still is fun.
Read Full Review >LEVEL (Czech Republic)
Rich content of the Olympics official product warms the heart of any sports fan. Plenty of disciplines, realistic stadiums and eye-taking graphics could bring a lot of fun but, useless controls and lack of real sportsmen names spoils the overall impression. [Aug 2008]
PC PowerPlay
For its genre, Beijing 2008 appears to have succeeded. If you’re a hardcore gamer, you already know this won’t be your cup of tea. For everyone else, watch out for the RSI and everything will be gravy. [Nov 2008, p.55]
PC Format
Includes everything you'd want from a game about the 2008 Olympics, apart from the fun gameplay and repression of Tibet bits. [Nov 2008, p.108]
IGN
They scored big here with the authentic presentation and the great selection of events but then they married it to a series of mini-games with such poorly designed controls that favor luck and calloused fingers over skill and insight.

It's the official game of the event, but unlike the real thing there's nothing particularly ground-breaking about Beijing 2008. What you see is what you get, and with nearly 40 events it's a lot to cover. Unfortunately they're mostly similar to play and the awful controls ruin what could have been a solid title.

Dull sporting minigames, not made for the PC. [Nov 2008, p.93]
PC Zone UK
Avoid. [Nov 2008, p.75]
Play (Poland)
On consoles it’s quite playable, but the PC version is a sad joke. It looks like nobody bothered with betatesting it - how you can publish a sports game with broken controls?! [Sept 2008]
GameSpot
Beijing 2008 proves beyond a doubt that rapidly pushing buttons is not fun.

Not Happy gave it a0:
This thing is *completely* unplayable on PC. Scandalous.
Piet J. gave it a5:
It's a very nice game to play whit multiple players. There are lots of games you can shoose from. On the pc version you see excactly the same as an xbox360 player; use B to... , Use A to.. . It's very sad. And in the control menu there isn't even the meaning of LT and RT. So you don't know what button you need to use when it saids on the screen to use it! thats why I give it an 5.
Loosestping gave it a1:
Craptacular. To start with you must have a XBox360 for windows controller to even play the game on PC. I gave it one point because some of the games are OK, and Im thinking swimming and target based sports (but they very quickly lose their appeal through repetition), but any of the track and field sports have more to do with luck and sore fingers than any game skill. Absolute waste of money, with many of the old button mashing commodore 64 sport games having better gameplay than this crock. To show you how bad it is, even my kids won't play it.
Kobby 01 gave it a2:
This is a disappointment to the gaming industry cos a game like this which most fun would love to play is so difficult that your fingers hurt each time you play. I won't advice anyone to waste money on this game. I think they should bring out a new version with different controls.
Wobisu L. gave it a0:
Awful game.
Tentacle gave it a10:
Game just rules gameplay is excellent!!
