Summary
Learn from champion Josh Waitzkin: Using the principles outlined in his book The Art of Learning, Josh puts players in his shoes during some of the most riveting moments of his career. He then walks players through the classics, introducing beginners to the fundamentals of the game and providing revealing commentary about the road to mastery. A variety of exciting multiplayer games are available, including: Dark Chess, in which the opponent's pieces are invisible; Extinction Chess, where the winner is the first player to capture all of the opponent's pieces; and Losing Chess, a game that rewards the first player to lose all of his/her pieces! Six original mini-games: Each mini-game is packed with its own music, sound effects, a high-score record and 20 levels of gameplay. Players can look forward to: Minefield, in which chess pieces are used to locate mines hidden in the board; Breaking the Lines, where the knight is moved to capture all of the pawns; and Fork My Fruit, a game that uses chess pieces to fork fruit of the same kind, among others. Players have access to 900 of the most important chess games, which are analyzed to provide key tactics. [Ubisoft]

As a one-stop shop for an entire chess-playing and learning family, this package should last until you're all grand masters. [Apr 2008, p.64]

A really great chess game. The presentation values are excellent, and it has a wonderful training mode which includes fully-voiced tutorials from Josh Waitzkin.

Chessmaster: Grandmaster Edition maintains the franchise’s unassailable position as the king of chess sims. [Mar 2008, p.64]
Game Almighty
The only thing missing from this experience was an actual video of eight-year-old Josh crying at the end of the game. I would have paid a lot of money to see that.

Even though most gameplay and options tend to be predictably consistent, The Art of Learning is a great tool for skill building and is put together in a simple easy to use package with something to offer everyone.

Alex C. gave it a9:
I've purchased all previous versions since ChessMaster 6000. I noticed minor cosmetic changes between CM11 and CM10; however, I'm basing my vote strictly on this version alone. The package is put together very well from the graphics, to the gameplay, to the training. I would have liked to see more mature 3D chessboards since the ones provided have a "kid" theme to them.
H. B. gave it an8:
Boss button, yes. Halloween pieces? LOL Best of the series, lots of options, download the service pack from Ubi, just enjoy.
Jan A. gave it a9:
I like it because you can play against players with different types of personalities. The tutorials are awesome and I've learned a lot since I've watched them. The game database is huge and it's fun studying very famous games with commentary. The database is also up to date, so you can look at the most recent games played in 2007.
Erik O. gave it a0:

Dani I. gave it a10:
I`ve played Chessmaster since the 8000 edition and i thing that the Gandmasters edition will be with a lot of new things and lessons.
Ron A. gave it a0:
No boss button, no more 3D, takes too long to close, cant play music CD while you play chess, no more halloween peices, too hard to adjust contrast/brightness of peices, always defaults to chessmaster oppponent (annoying).
