The all-new Career Challenge is the steering wheel-gripping heart of Colin McRae Rally 2005 and has players hurtling through over 20 different classes of rally events including Challenges, Cups, SuperCups, Shields and Championships, earning the right to compete against the very best. Offering real progression and the most diverse selection of rally cars to choose from, drivers will be pummeled through a staggering 300+ stages driving cars from 4-wheel drive, 2-wheel drive, 4-wheel Classics, Super 2-wheel, Rear Wheel, Distinctive and 4x4 classics. Beyond the Career Challenge, there’s even more adrenaline-fuelled rally gaming with the title’s 4WD Championship, Rally, Stages and Online gaming modes. Also features the new bonnet-cam and an improved chase cam gives a real sensation of speed and undulation. Enhanced damage and scenery visuals include new individual damage models for every car and should you crash into a tree, it’ll shudder and even drop leaves. 30+ featured cars include the Volkswagen Golf MK5, Toyota Celica GT-FOUR, Lancia Stratos, Alfa Romeo 147 GTA, Alfetta GTV Turbodelta, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII, Peugeot 206, 205 T16 Evo2 and the distinctive VW Beetle RSi. 9 international locations (new German rally joins events through UK, Sweden, USA, Finland, Australia, Spain, Greece, and Japan), in Rally game mode, each with 8 stages. Large, animated spectator crowds cheer you on through the stages. [Codemasters]

Play Magazine

One of the best-looking and certainly best-playing rally games ever. You will be astounded by the car models and amaze to the incredibly realistic way they take damage, right down to paint being flicked off. [Nov 2004, p.56]

IGN

It requires a distinct sense of focus. And once you delve into it and get the feel of the game, you'll feel yourself riding along with a particular sense of rhythm and with a distinct sense of flow that is unlike any other game I've played.

GameSpy

My wish list for future iterations includes night racing, variable per-stage weather, working in-car gauges, and crowds that aren't 2D pancakes, but I can't say I've played a more satisfying racing game all year.

Australian GamePro

Yes, Colin is king, but when your only real competition turns out to be your previous release, it affects the effort and growth of the series - this is not the next evolutionary step fans had been hanging for.

GameSpot

Plays just as well as its console cousin, with the additional advantage of some gorgeous graphics.

Computer Games Magazine

Simulation fans won't go wild for it, but this is perfect for everyone else to go fast through the countryside. [Jan 2005, p.72]

PC Format

Glossy, engrossing, and still fun, but just not nearly as essential as it used to be.

Computer and Video Games

The difference would appear to be in the detail, and it's not merely cosmetic, with a new hard steer function lessening the reliance on the handbrake.

PC Gamer

The crappy force-feedback effects and poor controller support (both my FF joysticks proved useless for playing the game) are sharp reminders of CMR 2005's console roots. [Holiday 2004, p.96]

Sydney Morning Herald

That rock is the rocking arcade rally game "Rallisport Challenge 2," which offers better visuals, a more tangible driving sensation and arguably the best online support ever seen in a racing game. That hard place is "Richard Burns Rally," which has established itself as easily the most realistic (not to mention difficult) rally game. In the wake of these two triple-A titles, Colin McRae 2005 comes off feeling a little too tired to remain the pinnacle of rally gaming.

Edge Magazine

The fifth in the Colin McRae series is still a fine game if - and here's the major caveat - you didn't play last year's update. Those who did will get more fun out of playing spot the difference. [Nov 2004, p.107]

Cam gave it a2:
Wow.. just wow, I had no idea just how bad this game was. I had no idea people still made games this bad. Seriously CM1 is more realistic and fun. As for the physics, I'm sure they haven't modelled ANY suspension at all, because I can feel the polygons under the 'car'. The car slids and recovers in totally unrealistic ways and even in a fun way. Even gravity seems to be canned if that's possible, I mean GRAVITY isn't even realistic... I think I'm going explode. The sound is truly awful and clips to your framerate. I can only assume the '10' reviews are rigged because no sane person could think this is good. Seriously Need for Speed feels more realistic and I NEVER thought I'd say that about any game. My god I'm still reeling.. just buy Richard Burns Rally for the love of god, get good at it, watch a REAL rally crash compilation if you think it's too easy to crash and roll and you'll be happy.

Cyberwalker gave it a10:
I had Colin McRae 2003 and it was great, but I was always having to fight to get a smooth frame rate. With Colin McRae 2005 after a few tweeks the game looked and ran better then 2003. I could also drive more cars and control weather. Normally when I get the latest version of a game I need to get a better video card to make it run, but not this time. This game actually scared me when I flew off a jump out of control into the forest on an Austalia stage. Try this game with a good pair of headphones in a stage with rain in it.

Yeung L. gave it a2:
The game's physics is worse then RBR.! I dont know why it would be 1 score lower then BRB.The game Could not give players any excitied after u play rbr before. Because RBR's phycics is real more then colinMc.

Rohith B. gave it a10:
Awesome Game. Watching the replays feels like i'm watching the WRC highlights on TV. And for those of you who feel that RICHARD BURNS CRAP has good physics then you should just bang a rock and see what happens. The car just flips up into the air and turns maybe a HUNDRED times before falling. As for graphics, its CMR05 PC all the way. It beats all the competition on any platform.

Jiggles M. gave it a10:
AWSOME racing game. One of the best series on the PC. All the rest of the PC titles are arcade racers, usually with no damage modeling. We get nothing like GT from the Playstation, even though our hardware could make the PS version look like 5 year old gamming. BTW, whoever said this sucks, you NEED a wheel to play. You don't really, but when was the last time you played a GOOD racing game with a keyboard? Yep. never.

Chis gave it a2:
sure this game has good graphics but the physics engine sux crap! the car seems to float off the ground and turn at the slightest touch! even on tarmac the car slides uncontrollable not from side to side.

Chris S. gave it a 9:
Very nice graphics, accessible physics model, lots of tracks and play modes, adjustable weather and smooth frame rates. Compared to last years version not a lot of difference. But it is a good game at a very good price. If you like this sort of thing you really cant go wrong.
