Summary

The big difference is the technical move forward. Action is fluid, special effects are pretty, and the cutscenes are funny and entertaining. Even the in-game physics, like building explosions and collapses, are comparable to first person shooters.

Worth Playing

As good as the single-player campaigns are, the multiplayer capabilities are where the game really shines. Going head-to-head against a human opponent doesn't involve a storyline, but victory is always more satisfying against a real person than against a computer opponent programmed to perform at "normal" difficulty levels.

It doesn’t raise the bar regarding the RTS genre’s standards and it doesn’t really come close to the existing ones, even though it does feature certain innovations over the previous titles of the series. Nevertheless, it’s a game with a solid universe for the background story, a large fan base, more than decent single-player campaign and, in regards to the graphics and sounds, it most certainly can go toe to toe with any RTS released in these last two years.

This is the most UNBALANCED RTS i have ever played!!! This is my main complaint: Most units are almost useless and ONLY used to counter other units. Like a ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS GAME. That is why this sucks as soon as you relise this. This really disappointed me because I was expecting a really balanced game.

Beware, the game secretly installs malware - SecuROM. It is likely to cause problems with your computer and is almost impossible to remove.

It was a good game to be sure. And it kept me entertained. The combat was nice, if not incredibly reminiscent of C&C Generals. Problems: The game requirements are phenomenal, I got sick of the game since it kept crashing on my computer. The faction and unit balance is horrible, Scrin is overpowered. Static defenses don't help much at all against anything but an AI since they can get steam rolled too easily. Bases are also incredibly vulnerable since they basically force you to cram buildings close to each other. It was good for awhile.

When I bought this game, I expected fast pace intense gameplay, and that's what I got. The campaign is long and challenging, which is good, excluding the Scrin campaign which was only 4 missions. While playing through the campaign you are presented with HD cinematics (before, after and during missions) which are fairly cheesy and unconvincing, however, it's better then nothing. The graphics, although not perfect, are very nice. In addition to the graphics is the neat sound design which is usually overlooked, so I suggest pumping up the volume. Balance wise, the game seems to be almost balance in patch 1.09, except for a few units, so if you're playing still with pre-1.09, I highly suggest you download the patch because it changes several major gameplay mechanics such as the economy which cutsdown "spamming" by a lot. Bottom line, if you have ever liked any C&C game, or you like RTS games in general, then I highly suggest you buy this because your missing out on a good game.

A great RTS that doesn't try to be anything more than it's genre. It's simplistic, well balanced and both the singleplayer and multiplayer (I don't play online, just LAN) are overall well made and enjoyable.

When I first bought this in May of '07, I would have given C&C3 an 8. Game play was quick, action-packed, and though there were some balance problems, they were very minor, so I didn't really complain. Fast forward to 9 (yes, thats right, NINE!) patches later. Automatch still doesn't work correctly, there's still a slew of connection problems, and, worst of all, EA succeeded in completely throwing the game's unit balance out the window. C&C3 is the perfect example of how a very solid game can be ruined. If the problems are fixed with Kane's Wrath, I might be back on the train for Red Alert 3.
