Summary

Valve has taken a large selection of the maps from Counter-Strike 1.6 - Office, Havana, Italy, Aztec, Chateau, Cobble, Piranesi and of course eternal favourites Dust and Dust 2, and recreated them for the source engine. This means all new textures and major aesthetic changes with more complex buildings and scenery. In addition, the levels are scattered with objects that react realistically with the Source engine's physics engine. [GamersEurope.com] The game is available through Valve's Steam downloading service and is distributed with "Half-Life 2."

The game looks more beautiful than ever, with structures that feel weighty and solid and little visual touches throughout. The flash-bangs look fantastic.

Eurogamer

Counter-Strike: Source is, once you've gained a knack for it, the most consistently rewarding and surprising team-based shoot-'em-up available on the PC today. It's been dressed up nicely for its relaunch in 2004, but it wasn't broken, and Valve hasn't fixed it.

As used in CS: Source, that ground breaking physics engine is just gimmickry. Likewise, no attempt has been made to make the robotic hostages lifelike. So much for "HL2's" ground-breaking AI. But we have a confession: we just can't stop playing it. [Dec 2004, p.85]

Gamers Europe

Valve has done a sterling job of moving a flagship franchise over to a new engine. Whilst the gameplay guts come over correct and intact, (which may disappoint some), Counter-Strike: Source is an even more engrossing and captivating experience, capable of sapping hours of your time, and even the worst "1337 g33zers" abusing voice chat can't spoil the fun you'll have with it.

The most impressive outlet of Source’s physics engine is the most subtle, that of the corpses left after any particular round of slaughter. Bodies realistically slump into corners, drape over crates, and fall to the ground. I’m sure everyone will have a “coolest corpse” story within a week of playing.

Boomtown

A technically and graphically stunning port of a game that was already pretty damn good, with the potential to deliver bigger and better things in future. And you can’t complain too much about that.

Honestly i still think counter strike is one of the best games I have ever played and ever will. I see people raging about the graphics and how the buying system is imbalanced and how COD is so much better and those people are forgetting a couple of things: #1 Counter strike is an OLD GAME it wont have the graphics COD does don't expect it to. #2 the buying system is not imbalanced it allows ANY player regardless of how much they play to get whatever weapons they want unlike COD where you need to be high ranks to have good weapons. #3 COD is a much newer game so of course it has graphics and for those who don't know the COD multiplayer pretty much RIPPED OFF counter strike especially with the sabotage game mode so if you want a good shooter that has TONS of mods for lots of varied play buy this its not overly expensive its not laggy if you watch the latency of servers you join, its cheaper then COD MW2 and unlike MW2 it has a good multiplayer system for PC that includes Dedicated servers.

Chris B gave it a10:
This game is absolutely amazing. Better than any FPS shooter EVER made. The repeatability is outstanding. There are so many game modes from default CSS to mini-games, zombie mod, gun game, jailbreak, world of warcraft, basically anything you can think of you just have to look. I have played this game for 6 years, everytime i get a new game like CoD i go back to this when i get bored of that. I seriously dont see how you can get bored of this you just need to give it some time and effort to get good at. It isnt a basic run-n-gun you will get owned everytime, its hard to become 1337 you cant expect to in one month. As for looks this game is pretty great for being made in 2004 but the source engine it uses is the best you can get. I have a top of the line PC and i still like these graphics more than others. 10 for gameplay, repeatability and graphics(amazing for 2004 game).

Brandon S gave it a9:
Great game, has a variety of different types of servers although i agree thats some times the aim is off, but it is the server that is messed up if that happens. overall a great game with good graphics and good gameplay i would recommend it.

Josh N gave it a10:
A Fantastic multi player experience that is a fantastic bargain since it comes with Half-Life 2. A Must have game for anyone! :)

Tamir F gave it a0:
This game is so booring, A new player need to play one month untill he realizes that he should aim at the floor, and THEN he will hit the enemy's head! I dont get why there is a crosshair in this game if its not accurate?!seriously this game is AWFUL

Danny Vu gave it a10:
Nice game, okay-ish graphics, very fun sniping people, It's a great game if your good at it. Good game for Trigger Happy players.

Ranchy McSwiftBurger gave it a4:
Annoying and Boring as hell. Now at first when I played this game I was getting killed by every single player on the server. After dieing about 12 times I realised something. That this sucked erect monkey scrotum. Even if I was sad enough to waste at least 3 months learning how to get good at this it would still be boring as hell. I tryed out the bots aswell and they were ok I guess but still boring as hell. And then I discovered the custom maps and how awfully made they were. And its obvious that valve didnt spend to much work on the v_models because you could see right fucking through them. I cant belive I wasted 14,99€ on this dog shit. I WANT MY FUCKING MONEY BACK YOU ROBBERS!
