Summary
In Crysis Warhead, players don the Nanosuit of Sergeant Sykes, also known as 'Psycho', one of the most memorable characters from Crysis. More brash and aggressive than his Delta Force squadmate Nomad, players experience Psycho's parallel story during the events of the original game, finding that life on the other side of the island is even more intense and explosive than they ever could have imagined. Luckily, Psycho's Nanosuit is just as capable and he's equipped with an even bigger arsenal of fully customizable weapons and new vehicles, giving players access to the tools they need to dominate any situation. Aside from this new single player campaign, Crysis Warhead also features new multiplayer content. [Electronic Arts]

CryTek demonstrates again its hegemony in first person shooters and it does it with a new gem. A brief campaign but charged with a shining pace is its main attractive, and in this occasion the multiplayer section has become one of its main highlights too. A new demonstration of the unquestionable health of the action in the 21st century. We don´t usually like to talk about the price in the final conclusions, but the possibility to buy a game like Crysis Warhead for just 30 € is a fact to consider.

Warhead expands on the forward-thinking ideas presented in Crysis and truly takes them to the next level.

For $30, Crysis Warhead is an incredible value, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better shooter on the PC this year. The single-player campaign is tight and superb, and the multiplayer portion delivers something that you can just in and play and have fun with.

Warhead honestly is the finest burst of action gaming released so far this year, and if you're canny then you'll be able to pick it up for a mere £15 from online retailers. It's a five hour tour-de-force that's plugged the holes in Crysis with diamonds.

If you liked the graphically overwhelming Crysis, you must not miss Crysis Warhead. Crytek just continues with what it can do best: Excellent graphics coupled with straight action.

Niggling issues have been addressed. Warhead is a beautiful shooter that's finally available to the masses. [Issue#12, p.51]
Worth Playing
An exemplary game to hold aloft as a challenge to future game creators to either match or exceed.

The expansion has done well to provide a decent singleplayer experience on top of the extensive multiplayer platform.

This is a great game package, for a great price. It will not disappoint any Crysis fans or new players, but it might leave them wanting more!

There's plenty of bang for your buck, and attempting missions over again in harder difficulty modes can really prove themselves as addicting challenges. Throw in the extraordinary Crysis Wars multiplayer, and you've got yourself an absolute steal.

If you've got a modern PC and a longing for some macho man action packed gaming, Warhead is an essential purchase.

If you enjoyed the original Crysis and are a fan of the big ‘Summer’ action game, this is the game to pick up, especially at its low price tag and wonderful multiplayer.

The original Crysis may have given you the basic tools, but Warhead allows you to really use them, and while its previous titles made it clear that Crytek knew technology like few others, it's this strange off-shoot Warhead that proves it's no slouch when it comes to level design and set-pieces either.

It's more focused, it's more intense, and though it doesn't provide as much of the sandbox feel as Crysis veterans would wish for, it still delivers on every other front.

Warhead was great fun and even the ending is better, and certainly less annoying than that of Crysis, but I did find it slightly too easy.

Warhead continues this tradition, bur has a slightly more coherent and focused story, even better gameplay and even more impressive graphics.

I almost want to hang myself for thinking this, but in effect, Warhead delivers because it's exactly what its developers promise: more Crysis.

Great stand alone expansion that offers an explosive story mode and a polished multiplayer mode, provided you got the gear to run it in a playable manner.

Fans of Crysis are probably jumping with joy and wetting themselves when I say Crysis Warhead is a better game in every possible way than the original. That’s saying something since Crysis was a great game. It might not be as long, lasting around the five hour mark, but you do get a great multiplayer experience to go back to once you are done with the campaign.

At 29.99 (USD), there’s no reason not pick this one up. Even if you haven’t played its predecessor, you can’t go wrong here if you are an FPS fan.

A different, wild trip on the same island, this history showing Sergeant "Psycho" Sykes makes Crysis Warhead not only a technical achievement, showing the best graphics on a PC yet, but a great example of fast-paced strategic action, making it a game that, more than a spin-off, can stand by its own.

An excellent add-on to Crysis that won't fry your PC to a melting pulp.

In its favour Crysis Warhead has the best graphics engine money can currently buy, and at a budget price. It also has a compelling storyline, an interesting character, and is a real treat for those who never played the original.

Telling the story of Psycho, who appeared in Crysis, too, the game feels a bit like playing deleted scenes from the first game. But lots of things are improved, there are more scripts, even better graphics and the cut-scenes are better, too. If you like fast action and couldn't care less about the story then Crysis Warhead is for you. If you haven't played Crysis and don't know what's going on, you may feel a bit lost, though.

Thankfully the action-packed single-player campaign hits the sweet spot that the multiplayer misses, which makes Crysis Warhead an exceptional value.

Crysis Wars is fun, and although it didn’t keep me glued to the monitor like the multiplayer component in Call of Duty 4 did, I do appreciate its merits.

The strongest aspects of Crysis Warhead are the same ones we already loved with Crysis itself: The Graphics are stunning, the story is solid and the gameplay’s challenging and fun, but at the same time these pros are the only big contra: there’s nothing really new about this game, which, on the other hand, might again be good news for fans of the first part.

If you take a fabulous game with astonishing graphics, good sounds and gameplay and add a new story, the result will be more than satisfying.

While Crysis: Warhead doesn’t really bring anything new to the series gameplay-wise, the expanded-upon storyline and better pacing of the game will intrigue any that enjoyed the original Crysis.

Crysis Warhead is a visual tour de force, an excellent shooter and, for the price, well worth purchasing.

A solid title that manages to be a helluva lot of fun, despite the lack of an abundance of new stuff.

As a companion product to the original game, Crysis Warhead is a vast improvement on Crytek's vision. It may be more compact, but the enhanced AI and optimised CryEngine 2 will keep you coming back for more.
Crysis Warhead is undeniably fun, great looking, and includes a strong multiplayer component—all for $30. It’s also short, and has some awkward pacing. You’re really getting your money’s worth from the multiplayer, and if you can run it on the enthusiast settings you’ll have a great time just watching your machine get a workout.

Either way, it's worth picking up if you really dug the original and want more of the same, but if you had issues before, then Warhead isn't likely to address them for you.

Still one of the prettiest games ever, Crysis: Warhead improves on its predecessor in every way. It's just a pity that there isn't more of it.

Warhead's a clear demonstration that Crytek learned its lessons from Crysis. Sure, it's still got some troubling flaws, but they're not as big as Crysis' "this awesome sandbox game became a corridor shooter."
A good deal, perhaps even better than Crysis. For $29.99 (which indeed is cheaper than a lot of releases today) it offers a compelling single-player ride (provided you're an "enthusiast"), new weapons and a satisfying and rather enjoyable multiplayer component.

If you liked any part of the original Crysis the expansions Warhead and Wars will be well worth the cost as the game is about the best looking one around.
One of the best parts about Crysis Warhead is the price. With an expansion-minded retail rate of $29.99, Crysis Warhead is inexpensive enough to make many of its issues feel very minor. Taken with the optimizations that may make it a friendlier game on more hardware configurations and its action-focused pacing, it's also much more approachable than the previous game.

Crysis Warhead is a short but more than powerful extension of Crysis. The meager five or six hours that you'll be spending on the game are going to be packed with beautiful nano-suit adventures. The graphics still look like a digital Mona Lisa, your freedom seems endless and the story is getting clearer. Until the next big Crysis is coming out, this one will do just fine.
Read Full Review >Cheat Code Central
It still looks amazing, sets a great pace for an action title, and provides enough of a story to keep the player from going comatose. However, it’s difficult to justify paying the additional money for a whole new game when it’s just a standard expansion pack.

Crysis: Warhead offers another six hours of more open-world shooting at a bargain price. Still a shame about the aliens. [Nov 2008, p.102]

The single-player experience still leaves much to be desired, but the multiplayer experience definitely earns that thirty dollar price tag.

In the big dumb act of blowing its extraordinary world to kingdom come, Crysis finds itself smarter than ever. [Nov 2008, p.97]
Level7.nu
In Crysis Warhead developer Crytek answers a lot of the criticism aimed at the original Crysis. There is more action to be found in Warhead, the pacing is faster and more intense than in it's predecessor. A tighter and more intense storyline also means fever hours of gameplay, but the ones accounted for are great enough to earn this game a high score.

Obligatory for original Crysis fans, interesting opportunity for the rest of the universe to try one of the best game engines. Where graphics excel story harms the overall score. [Oct 2008]
games(TM)
It’s polished to the nth degree, the set pieces come together nicely, and the mix of freeform and linear play works well, but there’s nothing here to distinguish it from the original. [Nov 2008, p.100]
PTGamers
Overall, Crysis Warhead is an excellent stand alone, not to be missed by fans of the first game.

It's Crysis, but with less room to breathe. Could do with lingering on those action scenes. [Dec 2008, p.83]
PC Gamer
No FPS diehard should miss it, but I say that more for the Team Instant Action multiplayer than the enjoyable but forgettable single-player campaign. [Dec 2008, p.54]
PC PowerPlay
It doesn’t really push the genre any further forward in terms of gameplay, and as such loses some of the jaw-drop factor that Crysis brought to the market in spades. But then, it isn’t designed to be groundbreaking. It’s designed to preach to the choir. [Dec 2008, p.69]
Thunderbolt
Value matters, and though the game doesn't give the completely non-linear gameplay I was hoping it would, the excellence of the early game makes Crysis: Warhead an attractive title for those who enjoyed the original.

Crysis was a fantastic PC game, and Crysis Warhead serves up more content with the same visual genius. If you're hungry for more, it's hard to go wrong with the $30 price tag -- just don't expect anything revolutionary.

If you were mainly hungering for more Crysis-esque gameplay, Warhead will do you just fine. But if you were expecting to get a more significant story, some resolution to the previous game, or a major innovation in gameplay or graphics, you will be sorely disappointed.

This game was really great and I will marry and then kill the ones who made it or they should kill themselves and after that be thrown to a river that takes them to China where rice farmers will think they're fish and grill them and spice them and dry them so their children will have something to eat the next winter cause they're poor people out there in China who farm rice and farm WoW gold to gold sellers in mostly USA where the medical system is crappy and people pay a helluva lot of dollars on medicine so they can stay alive so that the car companies wont go bankrupt and the global economy wont be paska.
Jae Q gave it an8:
This is a very good looking game and that gives it an edge. the gameplay is fun but completely due to the many different approaches to taking on enemies. However, the whole ballistics system is on the lower end, if you've ever played a run & gun shooter, imagine that with weapons that recoil wildly. Bullets don't penetrate anything, even destructible objects need to be broken before you can hit an enemy on the other side. Shooting an enemy is very unsatisfying, they take a lot of damage, show no sign of being struck after the initial hit, and the gore is terrible, though they did put some effort to improve a lot of this from crysis, it feels the same except enemies are a little less resilient and blood tends to show a little more. The story is linear but somewhat interesting and the ai is better than most games though that doesn't say much. Overall, the best point of the game is the seemingly endless ways to take on enemies and objectives. Yes there's loading screens, but most levels are pretty big. Overall, good game but didn't impress me beyond what I expected.
Mark M gave it a7:
It is a fun game to play, with a few comical moments in amidst the action and i really enjoyed it. Only one problem, it was far to short. Looking forward to tryout the online mode.
[Anonymous] gave it a10:
Crytek certainly paid attention and learned from their mistakes with Crysis. Minor gameplay tweaks and graphical details all come together to make a more exciting and varried game that never becomes a chore. Unlike Crysis I found myself using the suit controls for a lot more than just invisibility. This is what Crysis should of been.
Rob S. gave it a10:
Best PC game ever made. Basically an improvement on the original Crysis where they kept all that was good and tossed all that wasn't. It's visually incredible and the game play is the best since the original Counter-strike / Half-life games. All future game should have gameplay this sweet. One caveat though, you need a good computer with a good graphics card. Without it, forget it. You are missing all that makes this game great!
Sven gave it a10:
This game is pure awesomeness in every sense of the word. This is for me THE best PC experience of 2008. This game is the perfect example of why PC's kickass and are here to stay, FOR EVER. Its gameplay is more intense and focused than the original Crysis and can be very closely described with the intensity of a Call Of Duty game. I actually found it to be more enjoyable than Crysis since developer Crytek has learned from Crysis and improved upon its mistakes. By this I mean, NO LONG LULLS, MORE INTENSE ACTION, BETTER GRAPHICS, BETTER PERFORMANCE and a ENJOYABLE MULTIPLAYER. This game is by all means no Crysis 2 (man that game needs to come soon), but it wasnt supposed to be, it is supposed to be an improved Crysis experience, which is exactly what Crysis Warhead is. So BUY THIS GAME.
Elgin M. gave it a7:
I have a more than capable rig of running this game maxed out, but Warhead crashes every hour or so when I have CrossFireX enabled and less often when I only use one 4850. I did enjoy the game while I played it, and I appreciate the reduced amount of traveling, but the instability of this game ruined it for me.
