Eurogamer
Moody and atmospheric, compelling and addictive, this is first person gaming in grown-up form, and it truly is magnificent.

Are you a fan of conspiracy theories? Is the Grey Death a manufactured plague? Have you perchance heard of the Illuminati, or the clandestine Majestic 12 group? In that case, you've found the right game. It may not answer all those questions, but it certainly pushes the right buttons.

Near-perfect in every conceivable way, "Deus Ex" is pure gaming ambrosia. As in food of the gods, not tinned rice pudding.

If you're looking for one of those rare experiences that affects your mind, body and soul in ways only the greatest of releases can, look no further than "Deus Ex" -- it will consume you.

For a complete package of plot, style, depth and action, few games rival "Deus Ex."
PC Gameworld
This is an incredibly well done game, with a multitude of possibilities, and one of the greatest replay values I've ever witnessed in a game since at any time during the game you have to say to yourself, "I wonder what else could have happened back there."

Just as "Half-life" and "Unreal" revolutionized the action genre, Deus Ex takes us to the next step and ushers in the Age of the Interactive.

Deus Ex has raised the standard for first person adventure games with its open ended design, and seamless integration of the story into the game play.

An amazingly well put together role playing adventure that is easily one of the first candidates for game of the year.

Compelling, great to look at, and a whole lot of fun to play. The options package gives the gamer solid control over the elements of the game and the storyline builds with each mission completed.

"Deus Ex," Spector's latest epic, raises the bar once again with a twisting storyline, ingenious character development system and a linear game that somehow manages to feel open-ended.
Computer Games Magazine
Despite a few small complaints about inconsistent AI or disappointing Direct3D performance, this is a tremendously entertaining game.

As good as any other espionage thriller out there, "Deus Ex" is bolstered by a fantastic storyline.

Blending RPG features seamlessly with action elements and wrapping it all up with one of the better narratives to grace a PC game.
GameSpy
You'll come away from Deus Ex with the sense that you could actually be a real anti-terrorist agent in UNATCO. Well, maybe. I wouldn't advise quitting your day job.

A blend of action and stealth, "Deus Ex" brings you a great package of features and excellent replayability.
GameSpot
Though the game uses Epic Games' Unreal engine, which was once lauded for its exceptional visual quality, "Deus Ex" is actually a fairly bland-looking game because of its incessantly dark industrial environments.

A good game for people who like to immerse themselves in their play, but is definitely not for casual gamers.
Its claims to be a truly interactive experience are wishful thinking, its still a pretty linear game. Although there are different ways to accomplish things, the ultimate goal remains much the same.
Oftentimes brilliant, sometimes frustrating, and always riveting, "Deus Ex" could be game-of-the-year material if not for its many glaring flaws.
Happy Puppy
The storyline is immediately absorbing, and is a nice break from the typical run 'n' gun first-person shooter.

Every time your character is killed and you restart the game, you have to sit through a seemingly endless series of movies that re-establish the plot.

Easily one of, if not "the", greatest PC games ever made. The gold of this game is the plot line. The graphics are dated as of now (2010), but the story line is unparalleled. No other game has come remotely close to having as compelling a plot as Deus Ex. This game is on a very short list of games that must be played if you consider yourself a serious gamer.
Josh C gave it a10:
This game is as good as a fps game can get in storyline and complex gameplay. I had this game since it came out, and I played through Deus Ex like 25 times? And yet, no matter how many times I play through this game, I always find something new all the time. This game was a revolutionary piece when it came out, but yet not much praise? It truly deserves so much more. Also playing through the storyline, Deus Ex reacts to every decision you make in gameplay. And you come across major plot twists and for every choice you make, there comes a consequence. Deus Ex is a phenomenal game, I can't think a game with a better storyline than this game, its truly a epic experience. I still get goosebumps everytime I play this game. Best game of all time, truly. And I hope they don't mess up Deus Ex 3. Oh please:(
Kevin S gave it a10:
i like that last 75 review... i think somebody doesnt understand the concept of saving your game. in fact, real time saving (as in, being able to resume your game EXACTLY where you left off) is one of my favorite features a game can have, because you DON'T have to wait through the plot again. The storyline and gameplay should have easily set the standard for all new games, but sadly it hasn't
Joseph M gave it a10:
A simply amazing example of what a action/fps/rpg should be like. While the graphics are extremely dated by today's standards, the story and gameplay are still great. In my opinion, Deus Ex is in the top 10 RPGs of all time. Really is sad that they dumbed the sequel's gameplay mechanics down.
Adam F gave it a10:
Favorite game of all time. Above any other game I have ever played. It has been on my hdd for almost a decade. Most games never get a second look after the first play through. I will be playing it for a long to come. I even have the original box signed by the devs. Amazing.
Ubay O gave it a10:
What more can be said? Just that I'm reinstalling it again. Let's hope that we can get an appropriate sequel to this game. It haven't appeared yet...
Mike C gave it a10:
Nearly ten years after its initial release, Deus Ex is still the greatest PC game of all time. No other game gives you the power to approach every situation in whichever way you choose. The story provides a frightening view of what our world could become if we continue to allow ever greater consolidation of power and money. As for interaction, you can be an alpha dog superhero in every enemy encounter, or you can choose to think out your missions to avoid needless blood spillage. You can alter your body in ways that actually impact your gameplay experience. All this means that your decisions are more than just a novelty. They matter, and all of this will happen as you are unfolding a mystery that will leave you trusting no one. Please don't miss this experience!
