Pelit (Finland)

Infernal borrows a lot ideas from classic action adventures like "Deus Ex," but manages to stand on its own two feet. Awesome graphics, brisk action and realistic environments make Infernal well worth a try. [Apr 2007]

GamePro

Everything in the game looks damn good. Whenever I would boot Infernal up, I had co-workers stopping by my cube to exclaim, "What game is that? It looks awesome."

PC Gamer

Infernal isn't offering anything really new, but if you're just out to have a good time doing the devil's dirty work, blasting through legions of soldiers and using gadgets like some kind of demonic James Bond, then you'll find it to be a good use of your time. [June 2007, p.62]

70

Play Magazine

Unfortunately, in an age when third-person games have champions like "Resident Evil 4" and "Gears of War", a half-baked contender like Infernal doesn't stand out. [May 2007, p.84]

70

games(TM)

The mish-mash of styles and derivative elements on show make the whole game seem like a whistle-stop tour of the last generation’s classic action titles. [Mar 2007, p.116]

Gamers Europe

Yet for all its minor flaws, Infernal fills a gap that has been filled on consoles by games like "Resident Evil" and "Gears of War."

The game's numerous quirks and weak voice acting might turn a few people off, but the non-stop action, superb graphics and excellent physics makes it worth playing through at least once.

Boomtown

The action is very well done, sometimes enthralling, but never progressing beyond the 'shoot him, find key, open door, shoot him...' formula makes the game just a tad too empty to proficiently prosper.

Somehow it manages to be far more entertaining than you'd expect. [May 2007, p.72]

Computer Games Online RO

A game with little expectation of itself, basically a title with today’s graphics featuring yesterday’s gameplay. The entire game can be best described like this: taken in small doses, it might seem interesting and fun, but even so you’ll get bored after a few days.

Harmless, mindless fun. [May 2007, p.88]

There is fun to be found in Infernal, but you have to go through purgatory to find it and even when you get there, it's certainly not my idea of heaven. [Apr 2007, p.71]

GamerNode

A rather mediocre and bland third-person shooter. Other than the visuals, everything else is pretty so-so.

Even with the assortment of weapon and abilities, the game dictates where and when you'll use them, removing any experimentation.

It feels like a budget game and it really should have been one. Unless you're just dying to play yet another shooter with the same old stuff you've seen in all the rest, then just avoid this one.

What Infernal has to offer is very simple, pretty graphics, showcased in a variety of levels that take you from a mountainside monastery to an offshore train yard to an aircraft carrier, paired with decent action and surprisingly fun boss battles.

1UP

So it's not going to win any awards. And the lack of multiplayer plus the linear gameplay means minimal replay value. But Infernal is just clever enough to warrant a mild recommendation to shooter fans looking for a fix. Just don't expect any miracles.

Infernal embraces style over substance, resulting in a dull and repetitive shooting experience.

The graphics are probably the only true saving portion of the game because the storyline and gameplay just doesn’t make Infernal shine.

Worth Playing

Better suited as an arcade shooter than anything else. Nothing about the game particularly stands out, the level design is simple, the storyline is generic, the graphics are of the current generation, and the gameplay is mediocre at best.

Graphics aside Infernal is a pretty mediocre third-person shooter in a genre already boasting Resident Evil 4 and Gears of War: given this, and Gears' inevitable arrival on the PC, it's difficult to recommend Infernal.

Strategy Informer

The only ray of light was the amazing, and well out of place, graphics which are both visually stunning and seductive. Gameplay is a repetitive mental abuse and the plot would make baby Jesus cry, there I said it.

Jolt Online Gaming UK

It’s nowhere near being a hellish failure and it’s possibly even worth a go when it’s cheaper, but on its own Infernal is little more than a good looking tech demo for Ageia’s PhysX cards, a fantastic endorsement for mittens, and the perfect gift for overly religious relatives.

IGN

Infernal isn't entirely of the nauseatingly familiar variety. Its teleport system has potential that really should have been capitalized upon. It's got some nice visuals, flashy fire effects, lots of glowing outfits, and performs well.

It's a short and mildly engrossing action romp that, while probably not worth the price of a full game, will make a nice time killer for those long Saturday afternoons when the big game of the month hasn't hit shelves yet

Eurogamer

In its better moments it's a guilty pleasure, in its worst it's embarrassingly retrograde. By being consistently fairly slick with it, it easily avoids skimming the lowest depths, but really it's the kind of game we've all long since grown out of. Or so I like to tell myself, anyway.

On the one hand it's an enjoyable enough low rent action arcade game that looks great, and on the other its reliance on old and outdated ideas often remind you what you don't miss about the games of eras past.

Gaming Age

The story is silly and inconsequential, the action has the potential to be amazing, but cobbling together game concepts from the most popular titles on the market and releasing it with an amazing lack of polish just doesn't cut it in this day and age.

The majority of your time with Infernal (may it be short, for your sake) is spent gunning down goons in the employ of Heaven with one small handful of weapons. [June 2007, p.116]

It’s a clean game, at least, texturally crisp and evocatively lit, but the feeling of playing an interactive 3D Mark demo is discouragingly strong. [Apr 2007, p.88]

Sam gave it a9:
Infernal isn't an infernal game, it's a demonic good action game. I'm usualy not into "Tomb Raider" look-alike games.. but infernal kept me playing until the last level (which includes one of the biggest bosses I've ever seen). The graphics are superb, the environments and the levels are interesting and the gameplay mechanics rather well thought too. The story is, although not being a work of art, solid and will keep you playing to learn more about the background. It's an enjoyable game and deserves a good rating.

Marty G. gave it an8:
Interesting concept to short of game play, the last bosses are a bit of a joke, ones early in the game were much harder to crack. Not a bad but could have been better.

Patrick S. gave it an8:
Infernal is a beautiful and visually stunning fun game that was satisfyingly fun to the end. It has a smooth and fluid game play feel all the way through. Cinematic cut scenes to voice synchronizations were not the best imo, but were not a huge distraction, as I have seen worse. I'm more of a first person shooter gamer, but I instantly fell in love with this third person shooter from the get go.

Stefan T. gave it a4:
At first i saw the graphics and was pleasantly surprised, but the gameplay let me down so much that the game only deserves a 4. Avoid this game.

Michael gave it a10:
AWSOME GAME!!! I haven't played such a good 3rd person shooter since max payne. It gets a 10 from me, simpely amazing game.

Axel D. gave it a10:
This game is extremely well put together reguardless of the few chapters of the game witch do not allow it to be one of my best experices for long...I am very exited for maybe an Infernal 2? That or have some updates to have maybe more areas or new characters...then again a cooperative mode or any online would be wonderfull...if you can spare the cash and like 3rd person games, you will absolutely love this game and you should buy it.

Mark F. gave it a10:
Doesnt matter what the premise, running around shooting up things,I can do it all day. Great graphics, buying it!
