Since it’s the UK version we are reviewing here, and most of the problems from the USA release have been fixed I think I’m being fair in the score I’ve awarded.

By letting players customize their avatars to a high degree the developers have given a world of possibilities to the players. The two notes that bring this game down to Earth are the graphics and the sound.

If you’re into PC RPGs geared more towards action-heavy gameplay rather than a deep, thought-provoking story, you’ll probably dig this game quite a bit.

Cheat Code Central

Imagine an old-school RPG with loads of action and dungeon crawling without any asinine anime kids with their sissy tales of woe. With Dungeon Lords it's treasures, monsters and slicing and dicing all the way - just like it was in the good old days.

eToychest

While good company can and does overshadow some of what the game does wrong, it cannot mask the fact that Dungeon Lords, on the whole, isn't very fun.

A slew of noticeably missing features and other problems may well end up drawing too much of your attention away from the game's good parts.

Computer and Video Games

The title simply appears to have been rushed out without any testing, which is a real shame because underneath its problems, Dungeon Lords is a solid and enjoyable, if not ground-breaking RPG. [PC Zone]

Worth Playing

It doesn't handle anywhere near as tightly as a good FPS, but this is forgivable, since aiming and the success of your attack is stat-driven instead of aim-based.

Dungeon Lords had a lot of potential. The world is sparse and hard to navigate through, but at the same time feels oddly warm and interesting.

Gaming Nexus

I think there’s a decent game hiding somewhere in the unfinished code that is Dungeon Lords, but I just can’t be certain. Unfortunately, I must review a game “as is”, and “as is” right now just isn’t very good.

Game Over Online

The problem with Dungeon Lords, at least in its current form, is that every time something works, there are ten things that don’t work that spoil the fun.

Thunderbolt

Has far too many bugs to be worthy of your consideration. If you’re looking for a rich fantasy world then try out Morrowind or Arx Fatalis. If you’re looking for some multiplayer fun then stick with Diablo II.

So much squandered potential, it's mind-boggling. Needs serious patching. [Aug 2005, p.66]

More spit than polish. [Sept 2005, p.98]

A game that could have been an amazing return of the CRPG, due to a severe lack of polish and some big issues with bugs and failed ventures, becomes premature bargain bin stuffing.

If you have the patience to deal with the game's problems and don't mind a patch or two then you might want to pick up this game, otherwise wait for Gothic 3 or some other action RPG to waste your time on.

A mess of a game. Buggy, incomplete and all together boring, it's a huge disappointment for fans that are starving for a fun role-playing game on the PC that doesn't require a fast Internet connection.

In the end, it turns out Dungeon Lords wasn't so much released before its time, as it was given up on in an admission that time had already long since passed it by.

Grandmaster B. gave it a9:
This is one of my all time favorites, i just love to play it. The character development and the fights are realy fun. The story is a bit hard to follow but thats true for almost every RPG. However its a bit hard to get into the game, i think thats why many people dislike it. Graphics, especially animations are good but lacks shader effects and detail for the environments.

Tom M. gave it a1:
The most pathetic attempt at making a pc game ever attempted. The graphics are beyond horrible, the controls and animations are laughable, (your characters upper body and legs remain stationary during combat and the only thing you see moving is the characters arm from the elbow down, like a stick man), there's no music, no battle sounds, no swords clanging or explosions from spells, only faint footsteps from your character can be heard..pathetic. This is hands down the worst pc game of all time. And the sad part is that this is what I recieved for Christmas. Please, I'm begging you to take my advice, and avoid this pile of dog doo doo at all costs. If someone tries to give it to you turn and run away as fast as you can. All dungeon lords CD's should be collected and destroyed.

Chickendog S. gave it a0:
Hands down, the worst game ever. There's nothing else that even comes close, and the 45 percent rating given by the critics was *exceedingly* generous.

Skull Boy gave it a4:
Game Is very basic. graphics will draw you in but game play will soon leave you bored and wondering why your pockets are empty. Could have really been something if developers took more time with it.

Critic gave it a5:
Review of 1.3 The combat and magic system are easy to use. Spells require that your respective sphere of magic equals the level you want to cast. Spells are rare and cost too much to acquire, they take entirely to long to regenerate, even with the arcane or celestial regenerate skill over 10. Being a pure spellcaster is impratical. Clothing in the game is basically just different colors pasted on a body shape without regard to functionality. The characters you fight are in most cases more interesting to look at than you character ever will. Existing Major Bugs. The shadow ruins (enough said) Most areas are empty, and gives you the feeling of being alone, in what is supposed to be a war time period. Plot is descent but short. No Music except at the load up screen. Special Effects are bland. Still the game was somewhat fun. If you like playing a Cleric or Fighter type character, this game is worth maybe $10 to $15. Otherwise save your money.

Zeppy Led gave it a7:
Wow ppl are hursh, i went to the store saw the game looked pretty cool, so i bought it, came looked at teh reviews on it and wow i was scared to install this thing but i did and its actually a fun game if u ask me, i had a friend go and get it so we both play online together, the graphics are great and its like much other rpgs, although im only in to the 2nd day of it, i think ill just about get my moneys worth on this one....

Kronpas gave it a4:
A waste of money. The game reminds me of the elder scrolls series, but it s just a bad copy. There re too much bugs for a free-play RPG game. Just a typical example: when I went to some stupid village at the begining of the game, the guard said that I cant enter, then a golbin just pop up by my side, and even didnt give me a seconds to think of what was happening, it told me follow it and turn awy -> I must follow it without understand anything >_<
