Anyone who’s followed the Dungeon Seige series needs this expansion pack!

Overall, Broken World makes for a good, fun expansion. While I feel that the new skill trees should have been added differently, I don’t see it as anything game-breaking.
My greatest issue with the expansion: there’s very little added in the way of quests and dungeons, and not that much effort was put into making them distinctive.

This expansion is nothing more than the quintessential extension of the base game. [Oct. 2006, p.106]
Gamers' Temple
Dungeon Siege II fans will enjoy the chance to extend their time in the game’s world.

Not a great expansion pack – it’s puny, has a thin, meaningless plot, and generally feels like it was thrown together in a great rush.
The graphics are based on the same engine as before and thus have shown little improvement since the last iteration of the franchise. This is an expansion but not an overly long one.

There's enough new features, tweaks to the old systems and content to satisfy those folks still enamored with the world of Aranna.

Its content, side missions, new race and classes all add to the decent mix, but overall you’ll be aching for a proper sequel.

This is an expansion pack for Dungeon Siege II, and little else. [Oct 2006, p.96]
Worth Playing
As a stand alone release Broken World doesn’t merit anything more than a bargain-bin purchase.

Broken World brings a couple of welcome new features to an already good game, but the short campaign and lack of compelling content will leave you feeling disappointed.
If you really crave more of that Dungeon Siege II action, you'll definitely find it in Broken World. The problem is, you won't find enough of it to last you more than two or three days.

Still feels like watching Oh Dae-su slog his way through that goon-filled corridor. [Nov 2006, p.62]
PC Gamer UK
Broken World feels cheerless and sloppy compared to its glossier parent, and the fact that it even exists, so long after DSII and so resolutely aimed only at folk who've played that to death, is something of a mystery. [Nov 2006, p.92]
Jolt Online Gaming UK
The lacklustre story plus the dated look and feel of Broken World spoil Dungeon Siege II’s reputation a bit.

While the expansion improves gameplay in a number of important ways, including the inclusion of two new cross-classes, the actual campaign and story leave much to be desired.
If there's one thing that should have been fixed with the expansion and wasn't, it's the map and quest marking system. The mini-map in the corner is still fine, but the map screen is so useless, it actually takes away from the fun of the game.

Broken World does offer everything an expansion should, after all: new game elements, new characters, tons of content, and fan-suggested tweaks. But, somehow, it still isn't all that much fun. The only conclusion to draw from this evidence is that the base game isn't very compelling in and of itself.

The whole package is worth the money of any hack-and-slash fan who hasn't played "Dungeon Siege II", but it's a shame that Gas Powered Games didn't close out this installment in better style. [Nov. 2006, p.75]
Total Video Games
Additions such as the re-emergence of the Dwarves as a playable character class will be welcomed by gamers disappointed by their omission in the main game, and the extra spell classes at least widen a player's armoury.
It is just a bit more of the same, but lacks much of what made the original compelling. It is also too short in length and drab in appearance, providing little incentive to get from battle to battle.
It’s unfortunate that it didn’t try harder to give players a truly satisfying quest.
Broken Worlds doesn't offer enough new gameplay to interest anyone other than the most dedicated "Dungeon Siege" fans, and its once-innovative engine now feels clunky and no longer looks impressive. [Nov. 2006, p.98]
Play.tm
Laid bare, Broken World isn't much to phone home about. If anything it casts a dreary shadow over Dungeon Siege II, a game that while far from perfection was solidly put together and worth recommending. This expansion on the other hand doesn't really offer enough either in terms of single-player, or the unchanged multiplayer features.
The main quest is totally underwhelming and can be completed in a fraction of the time it took to complete last year's full game. When combined with some severely dated visuals and an almost thrown together storyline, there's little reason to pick this up.
Unfortunately, this expansion fails to add any worthwhile new gameplay mechanics or modes (multiplayer, anyone?), proving that some worlds are harder to repair than others.

Joe B. gave it a9:
This expansion did a great job of continuing the story set out in DSII. It had many much needed improvements and was very enjoyable. Highly recommended!
Unsatisfied Customer gave it a0:
Before you consider this game you should consider that you cant convert your multiplayer characters from DS properly without incurring what is apparently a a known bug referred to as the "inn bug". Rather than explain that in length here let's just say its a showstopper and GPG has issued no fix for it. Its such a showstopper that it makes the game virtually unplayable. I'm amazed they are even allowed to continue carrying it on the shelves with such a major bug. I would advise NOT purchasing this expansion until they release a patch. Since it doesnt appear they are going to release a patch I would advise writing them to request your money back maybe that would get them moving and fix this POC.
Fred B. gave it a7:
It's not much as an expansion pack, but it does have its merits. The combo classes are fun to work with and the reagent recipes make for a nice little scavenger hunt. The new campaign has a pretty basic plot and it's mostly just more of the same old striking and shooting and blasting. The monsters are very cool, however, and the campaign should entertain anyone who likes a good freak show.
Chris A. gave it an8:
I like this game since this game don't need high requirements pc. I really enjoy the expansion pack.
Ron M. gave it a2:
What good is an expansion for an already broken game? Well, it can fix things. Or it can add more dumbness. "Broken World" does the latter. It changes nothing of the fundamental gameplay flaws of the main program, it adds only more stuff to NOT play with. I was so deeply disappointed with DS 2. No, i'm not talking of the graphics. They're ok. It's the gameplay, the balancing, the terrible, terrible savegame-system. Nothing feels right, the interface is cluttered with unreadable fonts, tons of nearly sensless gameplay features are making navigating through the interface and the actual combat often a very frustrating experience. And yes, i've mentioned it. The savegame system! My "favourite"! For God's Sake, dear Developers! Why do you insist on implementing a savegame system, fitting for online play on remote servers FOR A SINGLEPLAYER GAME??? When i am playing with myself ( ;) ) i want so restore the game right at the place and moment i saved it the last time. With DS 1, you got it right. DS 1 was nearly perfect. A little fun arcade hack'nslash game. DS2 and its expansion are complete failures. And no, complexiy does not stand for making everything complicated!
Jamie S. gave it a5:
Dungeon siege 1 was a great game. Then they released the expansion - Legends of Aranna . Still ok. Then they released "Dungeon Siege 2" with the SAME graphics engine AGAIN. What started out looking nice is now years behind the curve. Basically, they've been using dungeon siege as a cash cow to provide money for the development of "Supreme commander". Those of us who actually liked Dungeon Siege have been short changed. Don't be fooled by the names; what you have here is Dungeon Siege 1.3 (Broken world). Just more of the same -- at full price! If they want more money let them try venture capitalists; they shouldn't try to hoodwink us.
Henry T. gave it a2:
Don't let 'reissue' merchants bank on your lack of imagination. Buy something else. It's a mediocre all been done before bore feast. No I haven't bought the game but I've played it and struggled to stay awake. Anyone out there with an original idea for a game? I'm willing to try anything other than 'Whatever No. 2, 3 and 4'.
