Summary
The expansion pack to the award-winning RPG of 2002 unveils an all-new campaign that will challenge players to explore and fight their way through nine spectacular areas, including an expansive new jungle region, as they unravel the rich history and mystery of the world of Aranna. Legends of Aranna will also introduce new spells and special over-the-top spell effects to combat fierce new creatures such as Clockwork Beasts and Doppelgangers. Those not content to play a standard farm girl or farm boy will be able to choose a new half-giant player character; and even use spells to transform into a wolf, lava monster or troll. Players will be able to collect rare and powerful treasures, including new consistent styles of armor sets and collectables. Also available is a new pack animal that will defend the player's treasure to the death. [Microsoft

Gamezilla!
This is a fantastic title, and should score points both for Diablo-style dungeon crawlers as well as adventure/RPG hybrid lovers. With no load time between levels, its also good for those with shorter attention spans.

Almost a full-fledged sequel in its own right. Not only do you get the full original game, but you also get a new campaign with a more than respectable amount of game time, new spells, treasures, monsters, and improved interface options.

Technically, this can be considered a stand alone product but wed like to think of it as two games in one - and for a retail price of $29.90, Dungeon Siege : Legends of Aranna is an exceptional value!

Considering you get all this for thirty bucks, I see no reason why every action RPG or DS fan shouldn't go out and grab this one right now. If you're into addictive games, I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed with LoA.

The storyline is really showing its age and aside from new some new features to make the game a bit more convenient (as in more storage space), this is a case of second verse same as the first.

Aimed at the first-time player for everyone else, go download a mod. [Score intended for those who don't own "DS" already.]

Legends of Arannas best selling point might be how much of a bargain it is, at least if you never bought the original game. Since its priced as an expansion at $30 but actually has two full games, it's one of the best PC deals this year.

With a huge core game and a substantial expansion pack all bundled together for about $30 you won't find a greater RPG bang for your buck.

The story's not really any more involving, and the game still lacks the personality of Blizzard's seemingly insurmountable Diablo 2, but there's no denying its slick looks, interface and the hours of absorbing gameplay on offer.

The AI that aids you in controlling your party is excellent. Unfortunately, it's so excellent that you just have to point and click where you want them to go and they'll battle their way through...If you own Dungeon Siege already: 68.

Fans of action role-playing games like "Nox," "Dark Stone," "KnightShift," or even the popular "Diablo II" (some of my all time favorite action games) should give this expansion a closer look.

Thin and familiar, but it offers some terrific hacking and slashing. [Feb 2004, p.72]

Computer and Video Games
It's a welcome and entertaining addition to an excellent game. [PC Zone]

Legends of Aranna delivers. With about fifteen hours of gameplay, lots of new items to collect, and a horde of monsters and boxes to destroy, this expansion offers plenty for gamers who love to increase stats and find fancy weapons and armor. [Jan 2004, p.155]

Fans or previous owners of the game may want to hedge their purchase based on how desirous they are of limited exploration, repetitive gameplay mechanics and mild additions that couldve been presented with a basic patch against the story of the Shadow Jumper.

Multiplayer has been greatly improved, with characters' journal state now being saved, so playing through one of the campaigns with a friend or two is a much more satisfying.

I dont think the storyline can get much more generic than this, and I honestly dont think its told and directed very well.

Plainly average and tends to bring the faults of the parent game to the forefront without being able to hide them under slick layers of production and ambiance.
Read Full Review >Computer Gaming World
It's a maddeningly beautiful game filled with the tedium of being an observer more than a player. [Feb 2004, p.81]
1UP
Legends of Aranna isn't radically different! Who'd a thought an expansion pack would actually just expand the original game and be done with it!?!

Simply more of Dungeon Siege. Theres new stuff, new areas, new dungeons and so on. More, however, isnt always better. While theres a stack of new additions, the new campaign is less entertaining than the original.

Like its predecessor, this might not be the most memorable roleplaying experience out there, but it will still keep you enthralled. [Feb 2004, p.70]
GMR Magazine
This RPG is full of lush graphics and beautiful effects but completely devoid of a decent story, character development, and anything resembling depth.

For those of you who haven't played the original Dungeon Siege, it's included with this expansion pack for free. This is a tremendous value. For pure monster-hacking goodness, it's really hard to beat Dungeon Siege.
Legends is a 15- to 20-hour long expansion that packs more of the same type of dungeon-crawling gameplay from the original--with an emphasis on the "crawling" part.

The $29.99US MSRP seems somewhat reasonable, unless you object to spending that kind of money on different versions of a two year old game.

Mateus C. gave it a7:
If you didn't play the first game, this is your chance. If you know Dungeon Siege think this only a weak expansion compared with original game.
Andreas I. gave it a6:
I was expecting the expansion pack beacause i thought that they might put some extras like class and something like that but they didnt! They didnt even put something new to character creation! Its a nice game to spend your time for fun especially On-Line but i am waiting for Dungeon Siege 2.
Chris P. gave it a 7:
I agree. Game has some glaring faults that are even worse than in DS1, I.E. the combat stances kinda suck. Unless you set it to "hold position", your entire party will take off after anything that comes within visual range and will continue chasing it until 1. it goes out of vis. range, 2. they catch it and kill it, 3. something catches and kills you, 4. you stop them. You'll be stopping your party a lot.
Subak A. gave it a 1:
I don't see why everyone has to vote 10 all the time, even if they don't claim the game is perfect. I frankly don't think this expansion deserves a 1 but it's obviously not 10 either. So here is my vote for a little balanced.
Peter K. gave it a 10:
OK, so it is linear and violent and repetitive. I loved the original and this expansion cost me a few sleepless night too!
Bill E. gave it a 10:
This game rocks! I am only halfway through but it definitely does a better job of keeping the player caught up than Diablo II with the same level of action. This one is much harder than the original.
