Summary
For the first time ever, the highly-acclaimed Dynasty Warriors series is coming to a whole new battlefield – the PC. With a host of graphical and gameplay enhancements, Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper is the definitive version of this best-selling tactical action game. The 400-year reign of the Han Empire has been brought to an end. The once noble Chinese empire has crumbled into three warring states, all vying for control of a land ruled by chaos. In the fires of battle, legends will be made by those who strive to forge a new dynasty. PC Exclusive Features: The most graphically superior version of the series yet, optimized for PC and featuring higher resolution, anti-aliasing, texture filtering, and more. New dynamic shadows enhance the realism of each battlefield. Twice as many onscreen characters and double the draw distance of previous versions. Bilingual voice option lets you experience the original Japanese dialogue. Improved enemy AI – enemies are fiercer and attack more frequently. [Koei]

My thumbs haven’t gotten this good a workout in a long time and I haven’t even mentioned the cutscenes because they’re just too creamily good to describe.

Other than its repetitiveness, disappointing draw-distances and dodgy camera, Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper isn’t actually all that bad. In fact, despite its attempt to look tactical and thoughtful in its objective screens, the entirely unexpected bombastic soundtrack makes it clear that, at its heart, there’s no pretension of it being anything other than a cracking little arcade fighter.

Exhilarating because you're tasked with turning the tide of the conflict by hacking through scores of enemies with an array of combos, projectile attacks (including bows and bombs) and some superb special Musou moves that first need to be powered up. Infuriating because the abysmal camera makes it virtually impossible to face the enemy for any prolonged period, meaning you're soon being flanked faster than a bitch on heat in an all-male dog sanctuary. It is certainly fun, but doesn't really grab the attention for more than short bursts of a few hours at a time.

Not so much heroic as the world's most violent way of developing RSI. [Christmas 2005, p.97]
Boomtown
At some stage during development, either the money ran out or everyone just decided they couldn’t be bothered. Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper absolutely reeks of sloppy work.

Francesco B. gave it a10:
I bought this game 4 days ago, and the amazement I have towards this game cannot be put into words, because this stuff is actually challenging, and worth playing, if I may say so. If I was an octopus with opposable thumbs, I'd give it 8 thumbs up!
Kale B. gave it a10:
I like this game because although it does have some problems, who doesnt like being nearly invinicble and hacking through tons of enemies while slicing and dicing hapless enemy heros, among other things. Why not give it a ten? Sure the camera work sucks but, look on the bright side, it is rather entertaining, for a an hour or two, to send scores of people flying in all directions.
