Summary

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars pits the armies of Earth against the invading alien Strogg in the ultimate online strategic shooter. Featuring strategic team play, persistent character promotions, day and nighttime combat missions, and the universe's most powerful weapons and vehicles, the game transports players to the front lines of an epic new war for Earth. As the invasion begins, players choose to battle as one of five unique classes in either the EDF (Earth Defense Force - humans) or the barbaric alien Strogg armies, each augmented with specialist weapons and combat hardware. Troops utilize over 40 conventional and futuristic vehicles, deployable structures, and defense systems like quad-bikes, tanks, and alien walkers for epic ground assaults; or helicopters and anti-gravity ships to lend firepower from the air. Throughout each battle, teams establish bases, deploy defense structures, artillery, radar, and advanced forward-command systems into enemy territory while constructing and demolishing obstacles to speed progress and gain a tactical advantage over the enemy. Players can take on class specific missions or join a fireteam to utilize advanced command and communication options, including voice-chat and the game's context sensitive mission order system. With bitterly contested multi-battle campaigns, each soldier fights not only for victory, but to gain valuable skills, special rewards for team-play, and persistent military promotions and medals. No matter how many hours you may have logged playing QUAKE, Wolfenstein, Unreal Tournament, Battlefield 2, or any of the other multiplayer shooters, nothing can prepare you for what you will experience when the Strogg invade Earth. Enemy Territory is the very definition of tactical warfare and its objective-base design and multiple classes will keep you playing longer than any other game in the genre.

Offers some truly fantastic battlefield moments, balanced classes, and great missions. The one element that gives the game a great sense of longevity is the XP system, that will give you experience points for performing well on the battlefield adding to your weapon and class skills, and a nifty achievement system and persistent rankings that track your progress.

Even a middling game comes alive when you play with other people. But when a game is built as carefully as Quake Wars -- for play online and offline, for new players and veterans, for quick thrills and long learning curves, for hyper action and careful tactics -- this is as good as it gets.

There's no denying that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a twitch shooter. The action is quick and deadly, and when it comes down to a one-on-one shootout, the player with the faster reflexes and better aim has the advantage.

It’s a far more nuanced game than you might expect, but it’s also very forgiving, allowing the player to find his own role in the fight. You could think of it as a multiplayer game that’s very friendly to the single-player mentality. Or you could think of it as a kick-ass online action game. Either way you’d be right.

There’s no doubt that Quake Wars is a good deal of fun to play, and that counts for a lot, but in terms of winning and losing, it’s clear that the onus is primarily on the defending side to get and stay organised, as only then will the attackers need to do the same.

Regardless of its few faults, Quake Wars is fun, fast paced, and will offer a decent amount of variety to people who are in to this type of game. Nothing really ground-breaking here, just a great online shooter set at a pace adequate for folks with ADHD. Each of the five classes is important, and the teamwork is essential. Even the best body count doesn’t bring full satisfaction if your team fails to secure the mission objectives, because you screwed disarming the bomb or covering the hacker. [Dec 2007]

Total Video Games

With such an emphasis on tactical team play, the fact that additional inroads into the battlefields can't be achieved with - for instance - the strategic placement of an explosive charge on a wall leaves Quake Wars feel slightly dated around the edges.

Single-player fans need not apply - but for online players, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is a title which stacks up surprisingly well with Valve's "Team Fortress 2." It can't quite match the polish, presentation and beautifully conceived design of Valve's latest, but Quake Wars sets out to provide a totally different experience, and does so very well - with a set of well-designed, expansive levels and great vehicles being the stand-out factors.

Very fun. I think it gives Battlefield 2 a run for it's money. You may have to switch classes a lot, but otherwise very fun. Requires a decent PC.

mike t gave it a10:
PURE AWESOME! Steep learning curve, but so WORTH learning. Might take you like 20 hours to figure out classes, maps, objectives, stick with it and you will see what a TEAM based game is supposed to be. First time you blow an objective with 30 sec left, you will understand.

arny sirplus gave it a9:
No game gets a 10 - but playing GDF with a good team on your side totally rocks - awesome.

Dalek gave it a10:
This game is really fun! I remember playing this at a LAN before on the demo, great fun. I played the demo alot to. The graphics are ok for 2007, but they could had done better. The missions are fun so you don't need to do the same thing over and over. Online: It is fun, the players aren't impossible to kill like in CS 1.6 - there are some Quake 3 sounds in there to.

Lee W. gave it a9:
There are many complaints against this game on the internet and after reading most of them, I have come to the conclusion that if you suck at it, you won't like it. This game isn't plug and play like Team Fortress 2 and whatever the cool kids like these days. It's best to play on a small server first to learn the basic classes and have small matches. After the player builds skill in certain classes they can enjoy a good big game. As said earlier, this is not Team Fortress 2 where you'd have to capture the flag (or, rather, intelligence cases) or control points. It's more of a mixture of both, where certain classes need protection while they complete a certain objective, and therefore, major teamwork is required. The gameplay is both tactical and fastpaced, delivering almost Quake-like player physics at times. Each class has different weapons from which they can choose. There is a somewhat limited election but all the weapons are nicely constructed. The graphics are good. They're not something major beauty but the landscapes are fantastic, the models are pretty detailed, and the animations are good. The problem sort of is that the animations don't have many transitions into one another and there aren't any ragdoll physics. The weather effects are beautiful but the major weapon effects like orbital beam strikes aren't up to par with what was established by 2007. The controls are responsive and some micromanagement for certain actions is required but is unavoidable in a game of this caliber. However, you may find yourself fighting Quake veterans such as myself which can be hard, so taking a tutorial the first time or fighting against bots (which are well-programmed and pretty smart) for a few rounds is recommended. As for sound, the music is fantastic but unfortunately only populates the main menus and loading screens. The voice acting is sort of roaring but not too annoying. The weapon sounds are good and there are pretty neat nature sounds. All in all, if you follow the ideals of id Software multiplayer, you'll have a shot at having fun.

noName N gave it a10:
Good game, Very good game, this FPS game I had played is AWESOME, but I hate it when the players show off and go solo then leave me alone and get killed by either sides btw GG

David S. gave it a10:
Really smooth game play and excellent atmosphere! 100% worth buying.
