An excellent treat for fans of the books and soon to be fans of the film. The game covers a lot of territory while doing a great job of bringing a decent amount of challenge and thrills to the masses.

The combat is very fun. Take that for what it's worth though. Fans of the book(s) will surely want to play it.

It has nothing to offer that we haven't already seen in a thousand other hack-and-slash adventures. [Feb 2007, p.82]

In the final analysis, however entertaining the movie might be, Eragon is an experience that’s better to read than it is to play.

Littered with occasionaly glimmers of hope, Vivendi’s attempt to create a true killer-app sadly falls flat, with most of the game feeling uninspired and largely by-the-numbers.

Game Chronicles
The game seemed too much like a button mashing port from the console with no thought to gameplay or storyline.

It's tedious beyond belief, has a plot that must have been ripped from the Eragon junior colouring book and action scenes that makes me cry. And they've gimped the dragons. [Jan 2007, p.80]

Eragon isn’t an awful game. The problem is that what is there isn’t good.

Games Radar
Even casual gamers will breeze through this game in about five hours. You can replay levels to find all the hidden dragon eggs, but with unlockables consisting of mini-documentaries on the making of the game, replay value is very low for this title.

Another weak attempt to cash in on an upcoming film, Eragon will likely disappoint fans of the book and the upcoming film.

IGN
Eragon isn't worth the brief amount of time it takes to play through it. The gameplay and presentation aren't up to snuff and the storytelling cutscenes don't do their job at all.

Eragon relies entirely on tedious, unenthusiastic gameplay that's way too shallow to sustain interest for more than a few minutes.

Worth Playing
I'd recommend staying away from Eragon, but if you absolutely loved the book or movie and would love to swing Eragon's sword or "fly" Saphira, then, and only then, should you give Eragon a try.

Eragon bored me almost to tears, and the limp plot utterly failed to keep me pushing on through the pain barrier. [Feb 2007, p.68]

Computer Games Magazine
But the problems with Eragon the game have nothing too do with the source material and everything to do with its dull and overly rigid gameplay. [Mar 2007, p.75]

Magic may be coursing through Eragon's veins but it's exactly what's lacking from this dreary hack'n'slash affair.

Robert H M. gave it a2:
A waste of time and money. I have managed on occasion to get the game running but usually once I get the stupid screen that advises me that a game-pad is best - nothing! I don't use a game pad and I have a new top-range computer with2Gb DDR2 memory, an 8600 graphics card 256Mb GDDR3 ram, and this useless game doesn't work. As far as the game is concerned, the amateur programmers should look for work more in line with their abilities. I am sure there must be a number of janatorial vacancies around.

Rezzz M. gave it a4:
When I purchased this game I was expecting an RPG with some customization and maybe a few choice dialogs. Instead, I was teleported into battle scenes from a movie\book I had never read. The protagonist wasn’t customizable. The gear wasn’t customizable (here are 2 weapons, have fun). The game controls weren’t customizable; there wasn't even one choice based dialog in the whole game. This is a game like Harry Potter or Lego Star Wars that supports an existing story. And like those games, you have no control over the camera (basically a 3D side-scroller) .. which allows goals like finding the secret egg you cant see. And like those games, colorful things bounce out of your enemies when you hit them (Are you getting the picture?). I can respect games that allow fans to experience moments from their favorite story. But understand that is all this game is… loosely strung together action moments from a movie. The game in and of itself has no substance… no plot, no story. If the box had said, “Experience the battles of Eragon, the movie”, I could have excused these shortcomings. But the box deceivingly makes the game appear like it is something more than it is.
