Yahoo! Games
Ridiculously addictive. A hallmark of a good game is that it makes what would be mundane interesting. In EQ you can happily play for hours just trying to gain enough experience to get to the next level.

All Game Guide
A game which reaches out of the box, grabs you by the throat, and won't let go. The game has consumed endless hours of my time, and the world of Norrath has visited my dreams more than Tyra Banks.

GamePro
The bar for online gaming has not so much been raised as obliterated. For once, a game lives up to its expectations.

TotalGames.net
EverQuest is certainly the more immediate of the two online role playing games but it still has a lifetimes worth of enjoyment in it.

94
Game Over Online
Everquest has an extremely long replay value simply because there is so much to explore and so many classes to play. So what the hell are you waiting for?

91
Game Revolution
It is far more co-operative [than "Ultima Online"], and there is much less player-killing. But this comes at a price. There is also much less interaction with the environment.

90
Quandary
EverQuest strikes me as a great idea well executed. I found myself irrevocably attached to my character and, once I gained enough power, thoroughly enjoyed helping others advance themselves.

90
Computer Games Magazine
With its 3D graphics, first-person perspective, and elegantly simple combat system, EverQuest has finally given us the first step towards a true virtual world. Internet gaming will never be the same.

90
GMR Magazine
The massively muliplayer RPG that's so addictive it makes crack look like Sanka. Play this game at your own risk. [Feb 2003, p.94]
89
Gamezilla!
There is, however, a very high learning curve to the game, which I guess isnt surprising considering how complex it is. The tutorial gives you only the minimum of basics and there are very few in-the-game resources for learning.

PC Gamer
Give Verant a little while to iron out a few problems, and EverQuest will be everything you could want in an online RPG. [June 1999, p.122]
85
GameZone
The interface seemed a little more complicated than it needed to be. For example, selling an item, buying an item and then inventorying your new item was far too more complicated.

85
Electric Playground
The game world is huge and the developers have done a wonderful job of making each area in the game very unique. I am constantly looking forward to visiting a new zone and discovering new adventures.

84
IGN
A game that is constantly evolving, and we're looking forward to seeing how the game progresses into the next millennium.

84
GameSpot
Although it might have been better in almost every respect, it is, like any good online RPG, a work in progress. And there's no question that it's the best game of its kind.

83
PC Gameworld
EverQuest isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the good features outweight the problems, making it a rather enjoyable game overall.

Happy Puppy
Perhaps the biggest complaint about EQ over UO is the utter lack of an interesting dynamic economy and the structures UO allowed you to build before they ran out of room.
