Summary

Fable: The Lost Chapters is fully optimized for the Windows platform complete with expanded content, greater customization, new quests and enhanced graphics. Your every action determines your character's skills, appearance and morality. Your character's life story is created from childhood through to adulthood and on to old age. Grow from an inexperienced child into the most powerful being in the world, spoken of by all and immortalized in legend. As additional story and side quests await, choose the path of righteousness, or dedicate your life to evil, and see yourself transform into a reflection of your actions and decisions. Age leaves you wizened and battle leaves you scarred as you explore the world of Albion and the plethora of expanded and enhanced content. With experience comes advancement and physical change, whether it be expanding muscles, a keen eye and nimble form, or the buzz of magical energies around your finger tips. As you develop your alter ego, the world reacts to you and your actions. People comment on your successes and failures, your appearance, and your behavior. Fable: The Lost Chapters offers Windows gamers even more character customization choices that will impact your appearance. The denizens of Albion's many opinions are expressed through applause, mockery, trepidation, panic, and even flirtation if they feel so inclined. Each person you aid, each flower you crush, each creature you slay, will change this world forever. In Fable: The Lost Chapters, gamers decide: "Who will I be?" [Microsoft]

You can tell the amount of love poured into this game, it really shows. An excellent title for anyone who enjoys adventure games, especially those who like the less linear feel that Fable has to offer.

The game offers a lot to do for any RPG aficionado, including a compelling story bundled into a non-linear package that affords something many RPG gamers want – freedom to act as they please. Fable, with all it offers, is the perfect game for this type of freedom.

Fable is a fantastic game and TLC builds even more onto it. The one thing I am disappointed with is that there is no multiplayer mode.

While we would’ve loved to seen a stronger emphasis on the whole ‘actions have consequences’ premise, Fable still allows the gamer to develop a strong bond with their hero.

It would have been nicer if the storyline was a little longer, but the ability to go back and replay the game, but choosing to be evil instead of good, or a spellcaster instead of a fighter, will allow you to enjoy this game for some time.

Worth Playing

It has everything I look for in an RPG - a quality story, superb visuals, excellent music, a hint of humor that doesn't overstay its welcome, and above all else, a sense of immersion that sweeps me away to another world.

Fable was, and still is, a cracking and practically beard-free role-player. Maybe in five years from now, we’ll see a sequel that actually resembles what we were initially promised.

Fable's social systems are a masterpiece of design and, if the story and dialogue tend towards the prosaic, the compelling action and delicious presentation boost the experience far above the ordinary. [PC Gamer UK]

At every turn the world feels wonderfully alive and the consequences of your actions have a real and obvious impact on the world around you. The identification you build with your character is stronger than in any other RPG I've ever played.

If it had been launched directly to the PC, Fable might have become one of the greatest games in history, because the potential was there and the early previews stand testament to the designer’s intentions. Not the Fable is a bad game, far from it, but I just can’t help feeling a little sad, thinking of what might have been.

You can see for yourself that Fable has damn fine looking graphics. The attention to detail can not really be underestimated in this respect. The character models look brilliant and the aesthetic changes in your hero’s look over time add just that little bit extra to the game’s finesse.

It's the definitive version of Fable, but only those who've not played the Xbox game, or are die hard fans should pick it up, given the additional content is not as plentiful as one would have expected, nor does it make the game profoundly different from what was released 12 months ago.

Another place that the game really worked was the social system that was put in place. It's not terribly deep, but each town had its own life and people in it. The world changed depending on the quests that you did. The game had a level of detail in it that made me feel like I was doing something.

Sadly the action based nature of the game hasn’t survived the translation to mouse/keyboard as well as we could have hoped. The fundamental character/camera movement and basic combat works well; it just all begins to get a little messy when the vast amount of keys comes into play.

Where the game falls short is in not providing enough for the player to do, so its lack of depth becomes apparent. In the GTA titles the player was kept too busy to worry about the limitations of the world; in Fable there aren’t nearly as many options or missions. The storyline is also poorly crafted though engaging with its chilling touches of darkness.

What Our Users Said

The average user rating for this game is 8.2 (out of 10) based on 57 User Votes

Luke K. gave it a9:
I loved this game. I just got it a week ago, and I'm already on my second playthrough. The age system is interesting, especially since the more you use magic, or "will", the older your character gets. It's also fun to be a dirtbag :).

E M gave it a3:
A boring, super-linear play experience with flat characters and a broken leveling system. The magic is totally unbalanced, and combats are impossible unless you use the one spell that makes them too easy. And let's not forget that if you complete all the side-quests, your character ends up 55 by the time you save your 40 year old mother.

Andrew S. gave it an8:
It was a very good game although the story line could have been better and a bit longer and the graphics could have been better this game was ok (for $19)

Minh S. gave it a3:
This was an alright game. Can't really go anywhere with this game. The quests seems boring. It could have been better if it had a more complex plot to the whole thing. I agree that it is good if your under 10 if not don't buy this game. It gets kinda boring......

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
One of the best ever adventure game. I haven`t seen better game in this category for a long time.

Corey B. gave it a9:
This game is freakin awesome! still trying to get that sword in the stone...but i'll get it, but this game is the best PC game I have played in a while.

J. B. gave it an8:
A good Action-RPG with great graphics, sounds and voice acting. This game is probably not for pure RPG enthusiasts, however, as it only allows you to control one character in a very Legend of Zelda manner. The plot seems facile at first but becomes rather horrifying later on, giving one the sense of playing through a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm. Jack of Blades is perhaps one of the most memorable villains in computer villain history. This is one case, however, where the expanded content is less impressive than the original game, almost making you wish that the lost chapters had stayed lost allowing you to finish with an otherwise tight story.
