Summary
(Also known as "Fahrenheit") New York, January 2009. For no apparent reason, ordinary people are killing total strangers in public places. Although there is no link between the murderers, they all seem to respect exactly the same ritual and pattern. Lucas Kane becomes another of these murderers when he kills a stranger in the men's room of a restaurant. Haunted by strange visions, he must keep one step ahead of the police to find out what is happening to him. Inspector Carla Valenti and her teammate agent Tyler Miles are in charge of the investigation. A series of disturbing clues projects them into a world they had never even dreamed of. Meanwhile, the early onset of winter paralyses Manhattan in an unbearable fury of cold and snow. Each day the temperature drops, as a coat of brilliant white snow is drawn over the dark streets of New York. One thing is sure : The final countdown has already begun. Indigo Prophecy creates a new breed of interactive entertainment, merging cinema and interactivity. A spectacular real-time 3D adventure with state-of-the-art camera direction and multi-path scenario. Play different protagonists in this epic quest and make the story progress depending on YOUR decisions. Control different characters in an awe-inspiring paranormal thriller, discern the dark secrets behind mysterious serial killings, understand why the city is brought to a standstill by snow and dropping temperatures, Play the hunter and the fugitive : explore, interact, fight and confront by all means dark forces during your journey. After Indigo Prophecy, the world just can't be the same place again. [Quantic Dream]

Indigo Prophecy is unique, artistic, immersive and beautiful. There’s no reason in the world why any self-respecting gamer shouldn’t have this game in their collection.

A completely engrossing game, designed for the patience of adult players, that will stand up to an almost infinite number of sessions. It’s a technically marvellous achievement by David Cage.

No game is perfect, but Indigo Prophecy will be the standard bearer for a future generation of adventure games and would be a great candidate for a feature film. It deserves to be played, scrutinized and devoured by all gamers – action and adventure, casual and hardcore alike.

Fahrenheit features a fascinating, ever evolving storyline that really does change in real time depending on your actions.

It's not a terribly big budget epic; it's like that smaller, incredibly well-done indie movie that raises the bar with a great core concept and striking attention to detail throughout.

Indigo Prophecy may not have the technical backings of a winner with its dated graphics and strange control scheme, but everything else screams classic.

An excellent adventure title for those of us who haven’t had a good adventure game in sometime, and with but a few small tweaks, this game engine could produce many fine adventure games.

The game starts out kind of like "The Twilight Zone" meets "CSI," but then it turns into The "X-Files" with some "Matrix" undertones.

Indigo Prophecy marks a tremendous rebirth for a very stagnant genre. Let's hope its mature style serves as an inspiration for other developers.

The gritty atmosphere, gripping action sequences, and incredible central narrative all mix beautifully to provide many hours of great gameplay. The ‘every action has a consequence’ mechanic means that the game offers up considerable replay value.

The game itself is quite simple and short, but the story folds out in a great way. One of the best games of 2005 so far. [Sept. 05]
GameBiz
The game feels a lot like a movie, but the interaction is extensive enough that the player is a crucial part of the unfolding storyline.

Those who won’t look at a game unless it’s got big guns and lots of mindless goons to destroy will likely detest Fahrenheit and wonder what the fuss is all about; however those who’d like to glimpse how videogames can become an effective means to telling stories and interacting with them will find one of the surprising contenders for Game of the Year.

A truly extraordinary game, and easily one of this year’s landmark titles. Evocative, unique, original, atmospheric and gripping – most contemporary releases struggle to lay claim to just one of Fahrenheit’s strengths.

Indigo Prophecy so unabashedly wants to be cinematic that the menu prompt for the new game is "New Movie". [Dec p.56]

Well, it’s a good game, even though some of the purists will say that it’s not a genuine adventure.

In the long run, although you'll find yourself bothered by the control scheme, the just-above-average graphics, and the minor sound quibbles, you'll forget it all as you get sucked in to the story of Indigo Prophecy.

Solid graphics with a consistent feel, one of the best story presentations I have seen in a game since the original Half-Life, mixed all together with a variety of puzzles and changing environments combine to make a knockout of a title.

Stuff
And yet there's still something here that kept us playing to the end. Can't quite put our finger on it...ah yes, now we remember what it was: This game has a story that's almost too damn good for a video game.

Despite some of its drawbacks, however, Indigo Prophecy manages to captivate the player in every possible way. It's a very good game, but not an excellent one. A little more function to go with the gorgeous style and gripping narrative, and this would be a game for the ages.

Indigo Prophecy is a game that actually gives the term "cinematic gameplay" some context, as well as some real heartfelt meaning.

The game’s sound, story, and characters are so strong, and the variety of situations players will find themselves in is so large, that at no point is this a boring play experience.

If you enjoy a good story and don't mind a more laid-back approach to gameplay, this is a title you simply cannot ignore. [Oct 2005, p.124]
Adventure Gamers
Though the inclusion of repetitive mini-games is anything but evolutionary, this game is well worth a look for those who can handle some reflex action in their adventures.

If it was a book you'd call it "a real page-turner"; it can be nigh-impossible at points to put down. When all is said and done, as the credits roll across the screen, you'll remember the poignant moments as part of the story, not the actions you took that caused them to be played out.

It’s almost shocking how seamless, engrossing and accessible Fahrenheit is. It’s sad, then, that it shows weakness in the one area where it needed to be stronger than any other game: the script. [Oct 2005, p.84]
PC Format
Flawed genius - but so captivating while it lasts that you won't really care. [Oct 2005, p.94]

It does drag on in a few spots, and its sci-fi bent may betray the original premise, but it brings gamers a deep, compelling story told in a clever way -- both in terms of narrative and gameplay execution.

Fahrenheit is a bold step in the right direction, and though not perfect, it has enough charm, polish and excitement to make it one of the most interesting titles of the year.

Once you get past its unsightly graphics and need for a gamepad, you'll find that Indigo Prophecy is one of the more refreshing and unique titles released in years.

But just keeping the player's attention is not enough to make a great game, and the tragedy of Indigo is that it so wants to be one.

It's about halfway through Fahrenheit that the wheels start to wobble. The game begins to veer away from its complex murder-mystery beginnings into the realm of pure fantasy, with a final chapter that can be hard to stomach.

Although the storyline is definitely morbid and intriguing, Indigo Prophecy screams of Dance Dance Revolution and Simon with its directional controls and the near system requirement for a dual analog gamepad.

Keltari gave it an8:
This game has been out 4 to 5 years or so, and I just downloaded and played it from Steam. There are a ton of reviews out there already citing its pros and cons, so there isnt much of a point rehashing, when you can just google the reviews. If you like adventure games like Shenmue or something darker, this is a great choice. It definately has its flaws, but the things it does right are pretty cool. If you havent played it yet and are looking for a fun diversion, this may be it.
Wes B gave it an8:
In the since of story the game is magnificent! however the game play is quite lacking. every action has a reaction to the whole story, which i love the choices they give you so you have to think everything through. but they really needed to work on the sheer mechanics of the game though. its more of a great movie than a game to be honest
David F gave it a10:
To call "Indigo Prophecy" a great game is an understatement -- "Indigo Prophecy" is a masterpiece. This is a beacon to compare games to. This is a new standard. This is truly a work of art. "Indigo Prophecy" is one of the greatest games ever made.
J G gave it a4:
I definitely had high hopes going into this game. I was told it was a good game with a great plot. Unfortunately this game did not come anywhere near those hopes. The main problem I have with this game is the Simon says circles. It fealt akin to playing DDR without the music. Or worse, playing DDR where the music is out of sync with the button pressing. The background action scenes were epic in their own rights and would have made good cut scenes but the Simon says gameplay distracts the player from enjoying them. The mash left and right gameplay mechanic seemed pretty inane too. As for the plot, I fealt it had way too many moments of deus ex machina for me to handle. I was okay with the first half of the story but not the second half. The Oracle randomly chose the only person in the world who posseses the chroma? There is a purple clan? The purple clan is artificial intelligences? Artificial intelligence can reanimate people? I would have been okay if it had only been a crime drama but the super natural killed it for me. Shifting between the detective and the suspect prevented me from rooting for any side of the struggle. I was merely playing a role, doing what was expected. This game feels like it wants to be a movie, but I don't think the plot would allow it to succeed as one.
Andy N gave it a10:
This is one of the best games I have ever played; it's very sad that it never got the publicity it deserved. Indigo Prophecy deserves to be played foremost because it is INNOVATIVE. Every choice you make through the game affects the overall outcome. The control scheme is tons of fun to play; while it is easy to learn it can be difficult. Indigo Prophecy reminds us that memorizing long strings of button commands is not what makes a true gamer. The plot is the best story I have ever seen in a video game; in fact, it's about the only video game plot that I've ever deemed movie worthy. If you haven't tried out this game yet, it's a must have to your gaming library!
Freedomgirl gave it a5:
The intriguing storyline that really sucks you in from game start is marred by action sequences that go from mildly entertaining to downright annoying (my forearm is still aching from some of those 'hit the arrow buttons as fast as you can' sequences.) However I did enjoy being able to switch characters, all of whom I thought they did a nice job of developing. I don't see this as a "ground breaking" game format that adventure companies should start modeling their games after, as there is actually very little interaction with the environment, no puzzles of any sort, and no inventory to tinker with. Had this game behaved more like Dreamfall where you mostly guide your character with subtle interaction with the environment as a means to unfolding more of the story, I would have given it a higher rating.
E gave it a3:
The gameplay isn't exactly spectacular (ie simon says, button mashing), so this game hinges entirely on its plot. The plot is mildly interesting until the last half where it becomes total garbage. Some things are totally left unexplained (I didn't realize the protagonist was actually Neo in disguise) and logical plot lines become taboo. Seriously, there are B-movies with more logical stories than this game.
