Summary
Fantasy Wars is a turn-based strategy game set in a fantasy world. Combining both classic strategy gameplay and sophisticated 3D graphics players can experience epic battles like never before. Taking place in a fantasy world of Human kingdoms, Orc clans, Dwarfs' citadels and Elven forests the player is thrust into a world of war and legend. Play the role of an Orc or Goblin boss, a captain of the Human army or lead the elite forces of the Elven army. Participate in castle sieges and village defense, assault and reconnaissance operations and swift raids. To be victorious remember that the amount and experience of troops is not always the key factor, organize cooperation between different types of units and use the landscape to achieve strategic superiority. The game consists out of three story-connected campaigns. In each of them players will have to gather an army, upgrade units, find magic artifacts and study magic spells. An epic story has been crafted to draw players in. The great Orc chieftain and conqueror Ugraum, incited by the cruel shamans, gathers a huge horde to invade the land of Humans. Only a small, but experienced army of general Pfeil is able to fight against the powerful enemy. However the sides in this confrontation don't know that this is all just a part of evil plot of the dark powers. [1C Company]

Pelit (Finland)
A true blast from the past, turn based fantasy strategy in the spirit of old classics from 90s. A bold move that succeeds. Commanding your own orc horde or mercenary army to victory through the linear campaign is simply fun, especially when the game mechanics have nothing to be ashamed of, and there’s plenty of complexity to keep you thinking. We need more of unhurried, turn based goodness like this in the future. [Nov 2007]
GamingTrend
The sounds in the game, or lack thereof, irritate me to a point, and the acting is rather subpar too, but I could hardly walk away from the game to eat.

If you are still stuck on the edge of strategy games, hanging on to what you can before delving into the real-time games that seem more popular now – your are going to love this game.

A solid turn-based outing in a generic fantasy setting, Fantasy Wars offers some good, but not great, tactical fun.

The turn countdown is a decent idea as well and forces players out into the field a little quicker, but can tend to cut off the chance to fully explore a map in some cases. Either way, the challenge for those that choose to try and grab the gold medal in each level is going to be pretty extreme.

While Fantasy Wars may not set any new records or break the gameplay barrier, it is a solid turn-based war game with an addictive twist.

It may be old-school, but Fantasy Wars isn't behind the times when it comes to providing satisfying, albeit spectacularly tough, turn-based strategy gameplay.

The game has a gentle learning curve that is inviting to most players. Increasing the difficulty will provide a challenge suitable to players of varying levels.

Fantasy Wars won’t please everyone, but it’s a fairly competent game that will interest every fan of the genre.

What it lacks in originality it more than makes up for in addictively fun mayhem.

All in all Fantasy Wars is a solid game. If you are not a turn based strategy fan give it a miss, Fantasy Wars isn’t going to make any converts but it won’t drive away anyone who enjoys the genre either.

A stout strategy yeoman. [Apr 2008, p.78]
2404.org
An addicting strategy game that I enjoyed playing once I found the cheat codes.

Fantasy Wars is an involving and satisfying game. Each side feels balanced if not dramatically different, the levelling system for every unit makes the game more addictive than it has any right to be and it hits the difficulty curve perfectly, being very easy to learn and incredibly difficult to master, especially at higher levels.

Fantasy Wars is as cliche as the title suggests. It does nothing new, but it also does nothing wrong. It's a good, solid game for newcomers to the genre, but it won't please too many hardcore gamers.

Overall, Fantasy Wars was rather disappointing, since it had the potential to be so much more.

It's certainly not worth more than a third of the asking price. [Apr 2008, p.115]
Eurogamer
Fantasy Wars will be most appreciated by those armchair generals who are thirsty for a dose of meticulous planning, not to mention those with comfy chairs, as it will be a long sitting before the day is done.

Like a movie you'd only watch when your PC's fried and the cable's out, Fantasy Wars may satisfy a turn-based strategy fix when the well runs dry. [Mar 2008, p.78]
Jolt Online Gaming UK
The good implementation of the strategy makes up for what would otherwise be a pretty unimaginative and uninspiring game that would at best be described as a homage to a much loved aging genre.

The turn-based action is a mixture of crippling boredom, mild frustration and a mild sensation of imminent doom - based on a huge, hexagonal board-game style map with gigantic pawns that you control scattered across it. [Apr 2008, p.77]
PC Gameworld
Unless you consider any game of this genre a must have, you may as well pass on this one.

Glenn O. gave it an8:
The AI is quite good (without "cheating") which makes this one of the most challenging turn-based games I have played in a long while. The perk-tree is intriguing, albeit lacking in adequate documentation. This game will stretch your strategy muscles in good ways.
Chris M. gave it a10:
I saw it for sale, laughed at the name and thought for a minute how brilliant it would be to remake fantasy general. Went home, looked at reviews, and bam! instantly ashamed for not buying it on the spot, have not been dissapointed. Great to play these old classics, an awesome game that makes you plan, think, and unashamedly save-load =).
Guesswho gave it a7:
Persistant over-the-top evaluations of Russian games from Finland's Pelit are understandable.
Michael M. gave it a10:
Loved the easy to play..hard to win gameplay. Most fun in years finishing a campaign. Hope there is an expansion in the works with more maps.
Oliver H. gave it a10:
Simply fantastic. Good strategy with fun battles and great graphics. So fun.
Rich C. gave it a10:
Not everyones cup of tea, but if you like turn-based strategy, raise your pinky because this is quite the little tea party!
Goenz V. gave it a4:
No good. Boring. Stupid graphics.
