Summary
(Currently available in the UK/EU only) EA SPORTS FIFA MANAGER 09 gives football fans full control over the management of their clubs. Whether founding a club, becoming a national coach, or finally leading their favourite club to international glory, all options are open to players in the EA SPORTS football management simulation for PC. The game contains all areas of club management, from signing new players to training to extending stadiums. A central element of EA SPORTS FIFA MANAGER 09 is the matchday itself. The 3D mode offers new improvements, particularly in the areas of graphics, sound and AI. The new, fully customisable user interface in 3D mode gives players direct access to substitutions, tactical changes, and statistics. The text mode has been completely revamped and now features a unique mixture of traditional live commentary and an Internet live ticker. Lots of exciting and informative tools create a high level of transparency and atmosphere. [Electronic Arts]

Improved graphics and useful changes make FIFA Manager 09 the best football management simulation one can get. Whoever refrained from upgrading to the newest installment of the series in the last few years, should surely do so now.

You can just sense how much effort the developers have put into this game, a lot of work is still needed however for this game to offset the FM series.

In a sense, it seems that FIFA Manager 09 is more a lifestyle than a game - to get the most out of it you need to put in some real time. A season, if played thoroughly, will take as long as most full games these days. This makes it an absolutely incredible management simulation, but simply too much for all but the biggest fans.

FIFA Manager 09 contains every detail a micro-management nut could possibly want, and probably a few they won't. For the mainstream football game enthusiast this will probably be a snore-fest, but the true management fan will be more than satisfied with the depth on offer.

How can a perfect game be improved? That must have been in the heads of the people behind Soccer Manager. They have not come up with innovations. Fans of the series should stick to the prequel.

A good alternative to Football Manager. Attractive, realistic and complex sport manager game for almost any audience. Interface improvements needed! [Nov 2008]
AceGamez
A worthy attempt at a football management sim and those with the tolerance to overlook a few poorly executed ideas will find an enjoyable title here, even if it cannot quite compete with the sublime brilliance of Football Manager.

FIFA Manager 09 is undoubtedly the most comprehensive club management simulation money can buy. While the 3D engine fails to capture the ebb and flow of matches with Football Manager 2009's aplomb, and despite a few tactical shortcomings, it's an excellent alternative with an exhaustive feature set.

Not as clean as "Football Manager," and by no means more accessible. [Jan 2009, p.77]

We'd like to see Bright Future focus on improving the in-game engine, scale back the extraneous nonsense and provide a better core game experience. [Feb 2009, p.85]
Boomtown
FIFA Manager has come on leaps and bounds the last few years. Once considered one of the worst in its genre it can now stand up and call itself one of the big guns. However, it fails to live up to the high standards set by Football Manager and your left with a game with bags of ability and potential, but no end product.

Unfulfilling micromanagement makes FIFA Manager a poor match for the competition. [Issue#16, p.67]

Andrew M gave it a9:
Brilliant game commentary can be mixed Never had any problems far better and less confusing than Football manager.
Desbert W. gave it a6:
Too many bugs in the English game eg playing League Cup matches against other sides reserve sides, having three subs in England team all called Owen Hargreaves and inability to make substitutions. A step back from the previous game and still the lack of consistency between what happens in the 3D game and the evaluations given to the players.
