The upgrades to this game aren't enough to make me recommend it if you own FlatOut 2, but, for everyone else, it's a green light.

Flatout Ultimate Carnage shows how to do the best possible gaming entertainment. PC-version is a straight conversion from Xbox 360, so everything looks the same and feels the same. Although, Bugbear should have made the real PC-like menus and better steering wheel support for PC. Even so, UC is filled with pure gasoline and testosteroine and is absolutely fun to play. You should buy this, if you already haven't. [Sept 2008]
GameStar
It's quite confusing: Flatout: Ultimate Carnage is the third game of the series, but at the same time it's the PC conversion of the Xbox 360 game, which was a new version of the PC game Flatout 2. Basically Flatout: Ultimate Carnage is a remake with better graphics and more cars. If you already own Flatout 2, there aren't many new things in the game to justify buying Flatout: Ultimate Carnage, but if you don't, go ahead and get it.

Its flaws are largely subjective; there are no open wounds for me to pour salt on, but don’t worry – a race or two would be enough for you to decide whether it’s worth investing time in.

The newest instalment in the series has the same simple goal as its predecessors: Entertain the player. And it totally delivers!

FlatOut is the kind of game that's fun to win, but the charm quickly peels off when frustration sets in - and it will. [Oct 2008, p.82]

More fun than 50 Formula One races, with or without Nazi-themed S&M. [Sept 2008, p.71]

The single-player Career won't take all that long to complete, but with a hugely entertaining multiplayer mode both on and offline, there's a good chance you'll continue playing for a while after.

More explosions, faster cars, new event types, marginally better handling and... no new tracks. I'd call foul, but this game knows no rules. [Oct 2008]
IGN
Hybrid racers of this type are pretty rare on the PC in this day and age, and this is by no means a bad game. So if you're looking for a fun and silly racer that may not blow you away, FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage may be the racer for you. So go break a leg, or two.

Not a new game, but certainly looks like one. It's a great ride, but if you've seen it before, you've seen it all before. [Aug 2008, p.104]
GamingXP
Flatout: Ultimate Carnage 2 is probably the most entertaining game in the action-racing genre in 2008, which offers hours of excitement, thrill and fun.

Are improved graphics, greater amount of destructible objects and a couple of new cars sufficient reason to buy the same game again? If you played the previous Flatout game you should be warned that Flatout: Ultimate Carnage is slightly improved Flatout 2 with the same mistakes under a polished hood. [Sept 2008]
Eurogamer
Overall, it's a very entertaining low-tech drive and demolish racer, but with one caveat for veterans of the series - they'll have seen much of the game already in FlatOut 2.

FlatOut: Utlimate Carnage is the perfect game for you if you want to race without worrying about the height of your dampers or the alignment of your seat. Wrecking other cars and destroying most of the scenery gives undeniable pleasure. However, if you already played FlatOut 2 there won't be much of a surprise. And that's why the game doesn't get a top score.

FlatOut 2 has been given a light dusting over by Bugbear and released in a pretty new frock. It's hard to decide between rage and disappointment.

Jeremiah O'N gave it a10:
A very excellent game. Sturdy and bug-free, runs amazingly well, loads fast and looks beautiful on a computer with an 8-year-old motherboard. Gameplay is great and innovative, multiplayer is incredibly comprehensive and intuitive for all it's flexibility and the bonus modes make great use of the game's oh-so-smooth graphics engine in a flamboyantly hilarious and arcade-like manner. It's like a new-age arcade racer gone wild. In keeping with the difficulty level of the arcade games this game styles itself after, however, the game isolates new players, who will quickly become frustrated with the overintelligent AI. The game's lightning-fast engine works against it in this way, as the all-too important gameplay tips are featured on the loading screens, which are subverted in an instant. A game ahead of it's time, styled after a genre long-dead, running too well on merely moderate systems. This game exceeds it's audience and bounds in greatness- and is the worse off for it. If you can take losing with a smile, if you are a person who appreciates the thrill of high-speed crashes and the beauty of variable-mesh twisted carframes, if you have fast reflexes and know your limits, then you can have the time of your life with this game. If you're not, then you should A) stick to sims like GRID until you are prepared to have fun with video games and B) do NOT give this game a poor review because it's too good for your pretention. If the game isn't your type, that doesn't make it bad. Just accept that you made a mistake in your purchase by a misjudgement of your own prefered genre and move on- the price you paid for this masterpeice isn't enough to justify such misplaced rage. I urge any potential buyers to bear in mind that this is an ARCADE racing game, and to not make the mistake of buying this as a serious simulator.
David S gave it a6:
New game-modes and improved visuals for the PC version don't make up for the loss of a LAN-play function. Flatout 2 is a favourite at out LAN parties, but UC only supports online multiplay via Windows LIVE - making this an inferior product to its predecessor.
Carlos TheBear gave it an8:
9 out of 10 if you've never owned previous FlatOut titles, 7 out of 10 if you have. Good entertaining fun game. weird cars, over the top rag-doll and insane, almost cheating AI will keep players coming back for more (for a while at least anyway)
Section 8 gave it an8:
If you like Flatout - you'll want this. Improved Multiplayer action, more opponents, even better physics and improved graphics, great music... Wow! Yes, there isn't much 'new' to it, and Bugbear better have a 'new' Flatout coming soon or add-on plugin for this or I'll certainly feel like it's just re-gurgatated material. But wow, puke this game-play on me any day..
[Anonymous] gave it a5:
just a remake of flatout 2.... good game but could a used something different. race tracks are the same , added a few goodies to the durbies like armor buffs but all and all its just flatout 2.
Tony M. gave it a10:
FlatOut 2 on the PC is my favorite racing game because it looks hot and is loads of fun. So naturally, Ultimate Carnage looks to be a great extension of 2 (however minor in gameplay, but better in technology). Plus 12 players over 8 should be a welcome addition to the fun. I just hope the price is right.
Aki R. gave it a10:
Burnout games are nothing compared to original! This just the best, craziest and funniest racing game ever. Physics modelling is fantastic -beats gran turismo arcade-feel anyday.
