Summary
Now Windows gamers can download the official Retro Evolved game, and experience a pixel-perfect conversion of the Xbox 360 fan favourite. All of the original enemy and weapon types are present, complete with local leaderboards to track your high scores. With support for keyboard only, keyboard & mouse, and remappable joypad (dual or single stick), all gamers should be able to find a control method they are at home with. Likewise, you can run GW Vista in full screen mode, or in a resizable window, making it as versatile as you like. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved for Windows Vista was made entirely in-house by Bizarre Creations, with extensive input from the original Geometry Wars author Stephen Cakebread. [Bizarre Creations]

It's a relentless, addictive yet difficult to master arcade game that epitomises everything that was fun about the classic games it takes its inspiration from - it's easy to pick up yet hard to put down and the perfect game to lose a few spare minutes in.

It's the Tetris factor -- the minimalist design and the addictive, score-chasing nature keep you mesmerized for what can stretch to hours at a time. It's when you reach hour no. three of a marathon session -- having entered a Zen-like state as you attempt to send your high score into seven-digit territory -- that you realize the simple truth at work here: In a world of interactive stories and photo-realism, Geometry Wars is just a really fun game.

A near perfect port at a perfect price point. [July 2007, p.76]

Even more annoyingly, it requires Windows Vista, although there's no real justification for this: it's Direct X 9 and could happily run on XP. [May 2007, p.72]

It's cheap ($3.95), quirky, flashy, and relatively fun. But I wouldn't recommend it in long doses, especially with most of the replay value cut.

It's still splendid - it's just infuriating that so much of what makes it such a delight has been lost in translation.

Geometry Wars is a classy arcade-style shooter, but this PC release is missing a ton of features that would make it last longer.

Bone Collector gave it a9:
It is a nice arcade game, it has firework looking explosions glowing snakes that attack you, smart enemies and a warping grid background. Great game to play when you need something fast. I use a cheap gamepad controller and it works great, change the controls to fire with the correct buttons.
Nicholas C gave it an8:
Great game. The rounds aren't particularly long, but you'll eventually find yourself playing "just another round". Looks great on larger monitors too. The integration with Steam (pretty much the only way of getting the game) is pretty poor though. The game runs all right, however there are no internet scoreboards, no achievements, no extra playmodes and no two-player games.
Matvei S gave it a10:
Geometry Wars plays great with keyboard and mouse, much easier then with an xBox controller (in my opinion). It is very addictive and intense game. Once you get past 200k point mark, things get really hectic with hundreds of units chasing and hundreds more spawning all over. It's great fun. By the way, contrary to what some reviews say this game DOES run on all versions of Windows XP as well as Vista.
Tim P. gave it an8:
Great game except that it doesn't work with a Logitech wingman extreme (one of the most popular gamepads ever sold for the PC.)
Donald B. gave it a10:
Best game since arcades were put in the mall! This little game is extremely addictive!
Tyler S. gave it a10:
Greatest game for its price.
Simon W. gave it a10:
AMAZING game, stupidly attictive but also incredably fun, belive it or not.
