I’ve just had so much fun with this game that it’s practically renewed my interest in PC racing single handedly.

To get the most out of GTR 2, you have to be willing to invest a serious amount of time in becoming both a confident and a successful race driver. [Jan. 2007, p.64]
GamerNode
GTR 2 is the best installment thus far in the series, which, for many gamers, will make this the best racing game ever seen on the PC-if not of all time.

It’s all there: high fidelity track and car models, intelligent and aggressive AI opponents, and a game structure that allows you full latitude in how, when, where, and what you want to race. It’s hard to find anything to complain about in Viva Media’s new GTR 2.

GTR2 offers a more polished package than it did last year, with the most notable improvements being a serious graphics facelift and much improved networking code.

SimBin have concentrated their efforts exactly where it counts - on the driving itself. And what they've created is the finest, most complete racing sim ever. [Oct 2006, p.78]
PC Zone UK
As far as driving sims go, Simbin have yet again proved that the PC is the platform for real racers. If you're after realism, forget "Gran Turismo" and "Forza" - this is the sim that you want to take the wheel of. [Nov 2006, p.70]

Simbin has gone above and beyond my expectations on creating a game that sticks to real life as much as possible yet still remains fun to play.

A sensory feast, GTR2 takes you so close you can almost smell the burning rubber. The best PC racing sim there is. [Oct 2006, p.90]
PC Gamer
A gorgeous and uncompromisingly realistic racing sim that anyone can drive. [Holiday 2006, p.108]
VideoGamer
Online play does pose a few more problems; not just technically, but simply in being able to find a race. Unless you're already involved with an online racing community, you'll probably struggle to find people on open servers to race wheel-to-wheel with.

It's an expansive and challenging sequel to one of the best racing games of last year and, at its price, it remains one of the best bargains of the year for the PC.

Undoubtedly one of the finest racing simulators currently available. Thanks to the driving school, the game has made huge strides in accessibility, and the underlying gameplay is as stellar as ever.

It's a stunning bit of work...Though not a blanket revision, this is a solid upgrade that assuredly fortifies SimBin's position atop the race-sim podium.

The only thing that's hard to adjust, in fact, is the tension in your muscles. GTR 2 is hugely better than its predecessor in exactly the area that matters.

The only thing that's hard to adjust, in fact, is the tension in your muscles. GTR 2 is hugely better than its predecessor in exactly the area that matters. [Oct 2006, p.89]
Pelit (Finland)
The physics engine is now several years old and starts to show its age. An exhilarating experience. [Oct 2006]
Worth Playing
A game that has a superb soundtrack and audio effects library, is ultra-realistic, visually attractive, and boasts a stunning amount of depth and replayability.

A game that demands your total attention, it will consume it, and you’ll need to refine your skills in order to get anywhere. If you don’t think you’re up to that kind of challenge then you may want to pass, and seek something a little more forgiving. For the real racing fans, and gear heads among the gaming community, you’ll want this – want this bad!

In GTR 2, the casual gamer still doesn’t have a game that will easily cater to them, but the hardcore racing fans have a new benchmark for racing sims on the PC to play with, even if the slider has only moved slightly on from the original GTR.

If it's a hardcore racing simulation you've been looking for, then give GTR 2 a spin. You will not be disappointed.

Sophisticated driving action with scarily realistic physics. [Nov 2006, p.84]
games(TM)
GTR 2 is a serious driver’s utopia and an experience unrivalled by any other PC racing game to date. [Nov 2006, p.118]
GameSpy
In some ways, GTR 2 can be compared to a harsh old sensei. He's hard to please and treats you roughly, but if you pay attention to him and learn his ways, you're sure to become a true karate master. Not everyone will meet his requirements or even want to endure his challenges, but those who do will be rewarded.

You may love that it has some of the best physics out there and that it can blow GT or Forza out of the water in that department. But then again, you'll probably hate the bland graphics, steep learning curve, and shoddy multiplayer.

John A. gave it a9:
Impressing, this game may be flawed and very hard but, the driving-feeling is complete and it's so addicting.
Christopher S. gave it a10:
What can I say that hasn't already been spoken and what could I write that hasn't already been written? GTR 2 is without a doubt a work of art and at only $20 anyone can afford this masterpiece.
[Anonymous] gave it a10:
This is a great game slightly better than gtr in graphics, better cars, plenty of extra tracks & cars available on the net (nogrip) also available now mmm v8 supercars mod, you can now uninstall v8 supercars 3 and chuck it. This game is the king of racing games.
Sean G. gave it an8:
Yes, this is an excellent racing sim, just as GTR was, and that's the problem. I bought GTR the day it was released, and I've played it almost every day since, and I really can't say that GTR2 is that much better. The only signiicant improvement in GTR2 is that it adds a few more cars and tracks (most of which were already available on the net for the first game anyway), the addition of a training mode, and addition of mini championships. Other than that, this is basically GTR all over again - the graphics are just a hair better now, and the driving physics are a tad easier this time around. Still an amazing game, but I can't give it more than 8 stars because I was expecting a more significant improvement over GTR.
Kenny L. gave it a10:
Do not play this game if you don't have a wheel and pedals. I've read some unfavorable reader reviews about controls, and physics in this game from people who play this game with a keyboard. Get a decent wheel. Its the ONLY way to play racing sims.
Dave O. gave it a10:
Played the demo on my old wheel that I've had for ages, and immediately "felt" that this was the one. I've never really been tempted to lash out on expensive hardware, just for this one type of gaming... But, needless to say, + retail copy, + Logitech Racing Momo, - $several, I am in racing heaven. The driving school alone is truly excellent, and of itself hugely enjoyable and rewarding. There are few games I can think of that not only insist you get better, but actually make you want to do so. (damned if I'm not going to take away a Gold Gear on every single lesson from that instructor, on full realism!) Pure, nerve-racking, racing bliss on the PC.
James H. gave it a10:
Astonishing. Fulfill your racing dreams here.
