Summary

Take to the air in the first game that allows players to fully experience the magical speed, power, and competition of Quidditch, the favorite sport of witches and wizards, in the Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup game. For the first time, gamers will experience the full complexity and exciting challenge of Quidditch, which involves two teams of seven players who fly on broomsticks, playing four balls simultaneously. Players will control every position on their team, including three Chasers who try to score with the Quaffle, two Beaters who control the dangerous Bludgers, the Keeper who protects the goal, and the Seeker who chases the elusive Golden Snitch that must be caught to end the match. Just realize you absolutely must use a gamepad and you will have a lot of fun.

PC Gamer

Other than its being a bit too simplistic, I have no complaints about this game. It's the best PC Potter yet. [Feb 2004, p.88]

GMR Magazine

The highest compliment we can give EA's portrayal of JK Rowling's magic-infused faux sport is that it's so much fun (for fans and nonfans alike) that it makes us wish Quidditch were actually real.

Quidditch World Cup's strengths take a little while to unlock, but if you're a fan you should get your money's worth.

IGN

I am disappointed both by how easy the game can be advanced thanks to the forgiving AI (it does get harder as different difficulties are unlocked, but it takes awhile) and the development team's decision to eliminate vertical control from matches as it dilutes some of the go-anywhere-flight that is part of this sport's appeal.

Yahoo! Games

One part hockey, one part soccer and one part pure fantasy, Quidditch World Cup may not have the draw or the depth of Madden, but it is still plenty of fun to play.

PC Gameworld

For Harry Potter enthusiasts, EA did a semi-decent job at creating an imaginary sport.

Eurogamer

Real Potter fans will love the ability to spot even minor characters from the books making appearances on the Quidditch teams and playing in their correct positions, and the whole thing has been put together with the utmost of respect for the material on which it is based.

The game is truly at its best in two-player mode, where you'll probably be more evenly matched against your opponent.

GameSpot

A decent first effort at simulating the chosen sport of wizards, it falls short of its promise primarily because of sluggish controls and shallow gameplay.

Ultimately though the shallow game play means that this is one present that, unlike the puppy, is just for Christmas.

The lack of difficulty is only surpassed by the lack of control. [Apr 2004, p.74]

Lillie K. gave it a 10:
I love Harry Potter, and face, everyone has a least one day dream that they could go fly on a broom, and meet Harry. Kids dream about playing quidditch for real, and I think this is a BRILLANT IDEA, I know I'm buying it.
